Fight monsters and save the world with songs. Ookay, this might work. Or not.

it works because Compile heart knows the target audience. They are not trying sell to everybody.

Well that looks like crap. I hope the PS4 is'nt like the PS3 where the bulk of it's jrpg games come from studios like Nis and IF. Sadly, I'm sure it will be.

Aw, no one gets my joke. You guys are no fun!
Change the protagonists into a team of, say, choir boys. Let's see if it still works! ...On second thought, it might also work. If they looked like those UtaPri dudes... Who knows. |

This is good now you can be quiet about it in every RPG thread until your game is complete and you can show us how much better you are This looks good. I'm happy the PS4 is starting to get RPGs in development. |

Since you can't do that, I see no reason to stop posting what I think. Also it's not every jrpg thread. Though I guess since you peps are now at the "well why don't you make one" defense there's really no reason to argue with you. You've already lost.

Why on Earth would you want JRPG devs cater to anyone but JRPG fans? That's incredibly counter productive.
Games back then aren't much different than games now. Not sure what you're trying to say here. You don't like anime-esque JRPGs or something? There were a ton of those back in the day as well. This game looks really cute and fun. Can't wait until it comes out. |

It's almost by Idea Factory's admission that these games audiences are not your FF, DQ playing jrpg fan, but an even smaller niche. So no I'm not asking for jrpgs to not be jrpgs. What a stupid implication you're trying to make when you know damn well what I'm saying here. I don't want jrpgs that are just catering to this otaku audience. IF and it's ilk can do that, I don't care. I just hope that they don't make up all the jrpgs on the PS4. They almost do on the PS3.
Lets look at my PS 1/2 jrpg libary. It includes: Dragon Quest VIII, V, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Symphonia, Breath of Fire 5, Drakengard 1/2, Grandia 2/3, Front Mission 4/5, Valkyrie Profile 1/2, Dawn of Mana, Romancing/Unlimited Saga, Frontier Saga 1/2, Xenosaga 1-3, Shadow Hearts 1-3, Okage, Sukidoen 3/5, Wild Arms 1-5, Legend of Legia 1/2, Parasite Eve 1/2(a game with a female MC where the most skin we see is thigh and a shower scene no less), Odin Sphere, Ys 6, Persona 3/4, DDS 1/2, Devil Summoner 1/2, SMT3, FF 6/7/8/9/10/12, Chrono Cross, Koudelka, Alundra, Xenogears, Sakura Taisen 5,, ect ect and so on... Even the PSP and 3DS don't have IF's otaku centric stuff as the bulk of thier jrpg offerings. Looking at my PSP libary you have stuff like Type 0, The Last Ranker, Tactics Orge, The various Persona ports, Crisis Cores, All of Square's ports from Star Ocean to VP, Falcom's games from Ys to Trails in the Sky and Nayuta no Kiseki, the 7th Dragon 2020 games, and whatnot. Those games are not solely "here look at these cute girls and thats all we have" games. Yeah, these games aren't anything like the otaku bait that IF puts out. Nope, the main appeal of them was not "here are substitute anime girl friends, please look at them". On top of that they were all mostly top of the line games in general and the ambitious big projects on the consoles. Things that were actually challenging and immersve. Things that didn't need just "here are cute girls" to get by. Yeah they aren't at all just like the crap IF and it's ilk put out. Even other more respectable jrpgs of the day(Xenoblade, Bravely Default, The Last Story, Ys Memories, Persona and whatnot) are like that. Please don't put these games in the same category as IF garbage. |

You don't really know what otaku pandering is. The fact you actually listed things like Persona and Xenosaga on there is simply astounding. Persona is the literal poster child of otaku popularity.

But I'd like to hear your made up version of want an oatku pandering game is just so everything can fit you're narrative here. Though remember I said otaku centric as in just about that stuff. Not, that they may have a few things. I mean look at the sales figures for those games, they sell far more then these otaku centric games do because they aren't just focused on that audience as even companies like IF have admitted they are.
So, I'm still waiting as to how these games are at all like what IF puts out which is really only about "here are substitute gfs". Hell none of these games feature only female casts, have tons of fanservice, or about the female characters just being cute, and what not. They sure wen't like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj5gGngu3To http://whttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4_e6Ib8mqEww.youtube.com/watch?v=0g2Z7MYtCkg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4_e6Ib8mqE Though in all the games mentioned, you could only claim two were somehow like what IF puts out(they aren't, not even close). Kind of telling. So much for "these jrpgs are just like these other jrpgs". Even though clearly they aren't and even the sales and attitudes towards them make that clear. |
