Well its good the Chinese publisher is standing up for it's self against this ban. Too bad it looks like what they're doing is illegal anyway.
You would think that if Shueisha knows it is the pirate version, they would either be for back-reparations from Hualing, or for the ban, or at the very least some sort of action that would stop or nullify the theft of there product. Maybe they feel such negotiations and/or litigation in that countries economic and/or judicial sectors would be pointless. |

Heh, I love Shueisha - they always backtrack when there is a problem...
I think that the Chinese government is just running scared that someone may want to make the Death Note system into reality... |

A friend of mine tells me that it probably has to do with some Chinese superstition that says that ghost stories always get popular during the downfall of a dynasty, or something along those lines. I'm not entirely sure he's right though, since Death Note isn't really a "ghost" story per se. |

I found that bit kind of funny we're fighting against people banning manga by using illegal license we don't have.....don't worry China I have the Death Note, it only cost me $15 and it's awesome. |

It sort of reminds me of Chinese Magic:The Gathering cards.
Skulls and skeletons are banned in Chinese art, probably because of superstition, so WotC covers up the offending pieces of art with rotting flesh. |

Is this a ban on the publishing of Death Note, the manga
or a ban on pirated copies of Death Note or a ban of imitation 'Death Notes' for killin' people? Everyone in China just downloads manga in internet cafe's anyways.
Hahah, reminds me of that old American superstition of "Rock music will lead to degeneration of society!!" or "pokemon cards lead to devil worship!!"
? Where'd you hear that? For example, tons of people play World of Warcraft there, commercials play on TV, and it's full of skeletons and skulls. Seems like an obscure censorship thing (like Japanese God of War not letting you kill civilians) Piracy's really the biggest hurdle for China right now with cartoon and comic entertainment. That's why the only thing that makes money is online games with subscriptions, can't pirate that (well, private servers, but y'know) If they can curb that, it's a gigantic market to be fully realized. With a chance to make money, their native cartoons can stop sucking |

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/50 It was a demand the Chinese government made of WotC, clean up the grotesque elements of the game or we won't allow it in the marketplace. |
