Things like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami, building fires or collapses, and sunken sinks are good fodder for exciting adventures stories. It's just that every now and then, a real example (or near-example? This Pokemon thing seems to be more a "sunken treasure" kind of story) occurs soon before the fictional work is set to air.

I find this really unnecessary. Now, if they were making a joke about a ferry sinking, then I could understand a delay/cancellation, but these are pretty different things and the only similarity is that they're both boats.

Knowing Pokemon's history of 'delaying' episodes, it's safe to say that this is another one in the bin of banned episodes.

Well, that's one step closer to meeting their quota for gen6 anime.

I'm fairly certain they have a rule that stipulates that for each generation of the Pokémon anime, there must be a certain number of episodes that coincide with major international disasters, causing controversy and delays in airing. It's the only plausible explanation for why this happens to Pokémon so frequently.

The thing is, Japan and Korea relations have for quite some time, been unfriendly. Now, I don't want to assume anything, I'm not an expert on the relations between these countries, but....

....The Wind Rises pissed off a bunch of Koreans, because many felt it portrayed Japan in too kind a light. Many wrote it off as "right wing trashed."

Why not just ban the episode if and when XY airs in South Korea like how the US banned the episode with Jynx in it or delay it a month or two in Japan similar to Madoka. The only real explanation for the delay and possible permanent unairing is that there is most likely some sad and tragic story dialogue surrounding the sunken passenger ship in the episode that might constitute too soon, like no one made it or someone important didn't make it out.

It's quite the odd coincidence that every few years there's inevitably another Pokemon episode scheduled to air that somewhat resembles a recent tragic and/or controversial event, and is promptly pulled from air, probably to never see the light of day again (at least in Japan) Confused

It seems just about every season of Pokemon is going to have its batch of lost episodes. Well I think it's a wise decision to delay the episode given recent events.

For some reason, whenever I read about things like this, I always think of the "Cartoon Wars" episodes of South Park, specifically the "Lavern and Shirley effect" Cartman referenced.

not to go off topic, I think I can explain, yes Japan and South Korea had a shoddy relationship over some issues like Yasukuni Shrine, Comfort women, and discrimination against ethnic Koreans in Japan.

It doesn't sound like the episode adds anything to the plot. Probably just a filler. Doesn't matter.

Well Japan does have a lot of ethnic Koreans, I guess they didn't want to offend those community.

It seems like a filler episode, but this over-sensitivity to real life events is annoying.

Things happen in real life. People need to get over it. Perhaps the entire Pokemon franchise should be taken down due to the animal cruelty taking place across the world?

Are you telling me the sunken ship would have been okay otherwise? Why is that? Proximity to current events shouldn't deter these things.
