It turns out this book is available for Kindle. Instant gratification FTW --- the first several chapters are delightful.
Needs more recipes, though.
Thanks for the review --- I would never have known about this book otherwise.

This sounds promising! I'll definitely keep an eye out for it.

You're welcome. It's actually my favorite part of this job - getting to bring stories to peoples' attention that they might not otherwise have known about.
edit: dm, yes! Recipes would make this book even more wonderful.

Oooo, this sounds very interesting. And yeah, I immediately thought about Bunny Drop, though the details of the premise here do look different enough, which is good. I'll definitely put it on my to-read list.
In fact, I already have with the lovely buttons at the bottom of the review. I haven't seen those before but they are a fantastic idea!

I really do hope this manga avoids Bunny Drop's tweeeest. I can't help but be a bit more suspicious.
That said, I get the feeling this manga would make for a nice, quiet little live-action drama.

That was the first thing that came to my mind as well while reading the synopsis, sadly enough.
But it sounds very interesting, especially since i've always loved manga about cooking/food.

This series sounds good, but sadly I don't buy seinen or josei series until I'm absolutely sure nothing strange is going to happen. One too many went downhill fast...
Thanks for the great review! I'll look into it a little later and decide.
dm & Princess_Irene The recipe book is sold separately . In Japan that is. It would be interesting to see an English version though.

I'm gonna be honest, I got the creeps the further I got into this first volume. I definitely got some of... those vibes off of it. They kinda joke about it in-story, but to me it came off as having their cake and eating it too.
The clincher is when we're shown that Kururi is keenly interested when her class oh-so-conveniently discusses Japanese law re: familial relations and marriage-- Hey, turns out she and Takasugi are juuuust distant enough that they could marry! *bleeergh* I should add, it's not the genetics that creeps me out but the fact that she is 12 and he is a grown-ass man who is assuming a parental role over a child and I don't like what I think this is foreshadowing.
I won't be buying volume 2. For those braver than me, I hope I'm really, really misinterpreting this first volume.

Based on this, I think I'll hold off on buying until it's either finished or made obvious where it is (or is not) going. Especially with them tackling the issues surrounding their living situation; due to the taste left from Bunny Drop, I sometimes find it difficult to discern if the author is mentioning it out of realism or foreshadowing. Like you, it's not really the blood connection. It's the emotional bond and, in these instances, the large age gap.(Meaning, when one is obviously on the lower end of a power dynamic and/or is under the guardianship of another.) I prefer when an author explores how powerful emotional (platonic) relationships can be, actually.
