Yeah, Bamboo is right about a lot of what's in this review...but what the hell...I love this series anyway.
If you're able to get your hands on this (darn you Toei!), get it. It's just fun! |

What the hell indeed. I know this review is about 12 years old, but I disagree completely. I don't think Bamboo is right about most of what he/she said about the review at all. "Whatever Sailor Moon is known for, it is definitely not the art, nor the animation, both of which falter in quality." "Even in just the first six episodes, there are plot holes galore, and scenes that are blatantly illogical in the way the scenes were animated. The series introduces the Sailor Moon concept, as well as the various attacks much too quickly." Are you kidding me? I've seen most of the first season, and from what I've seen, the animation and background art are fine; there's no "lack of detail" and the animation is not jerky at all. It is some of the best animation I've ever seen in an anime. I also don't mind the transformations being used over and over. Also, Usagi isn't "overly-confident" at first; she's says fighting makes her nervous, and she later grows more confident as a character. Plus how are there any so-called "plot holes" in the first eight episodes (the dub has skipped at least 3 episodes at this point)? And this is not boring at all! [spoiler] Bamboo's other two Sailor Moon reviews (SuperS volumes 1 and 2) are pretty much just the same. I think he/she tried to look way too deep into it, but failed to understand it at the same time. It just comes off to me like they're just bashing it in a way so casual viewers might not give it a chance (which in my opinion, they should). Also the way they talk about Sailor Moon fans (including Zac's review on SuperS volume 4, which is just as bad in my opinion, but with the exception of saying there are more people who love than hate Sailor Moon in this review here) sounds insulting to me. I don't think this reviewer has watched Sailor Moon all the way (according to what I've seen, only 18 episodes), or understood it at all. Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but that's how this comes off to me. I'm just expressing my opinion. |

Looking back on this, now that Sailor Moon Crystal has ended, I can think most of what's said in this review now applies to Crystal, and not the original anime.
Both series honestly will be remembered for its art and animation; the original anime has wonderful and beautiful art and animation that is mostly smooth and fluid, while Crystal's is the one where it falters in quality, especially with shots like this: http://ai-no-senshi.net/img-errors/smc_error_ep09_02.jpg http://ai-no-senshi.net/img-errors/smc_error_ep09_03_big.jpg http://ai-no-senshi.net/img-errors/smc_error_ep09_04_big.jpg http://ai-no-senshi.net/img-errors/smc_error_ep15_10.jpg http://ai-no-senshi.net/img-errors/smc_error_mercury_stock_01.jpg http://ai-no-senshi.net/img-errors/smc_error_mercury_stock_02.jpg Also I think Crystal introduces the Sailor Moon concept too quickly as the pace is rushed and no one but Usagi/Moon has any personality and character development, and even then, Usagi doesn't resemble her original counterpart. At least Crystal won't have a horrid dub. |
