I just finished watching the last volume of Girl's Bravo tonight (though 3am is really morning but who cares/damn insomnia) and I went to the encyclopedia to look up a few of the characters. I wanted to see what other roles some of the voice actors had done since I didn't recognize them by name. I found a few discrepancies with the Girl's Bravo page though. First, J-Ray is credited as to the voice of Tomoko. It's actually Tomoka, with an A. Kosame is also spelled Kozame on your listing. I wasn't sure if these 2 were typos or just part of the translation (such as how R and L are interchangeable). Second, Karen Thompson is credited for the role of Maharu. Yet, there's no mention of her role as the voice of Ebi (but her role for the Japanese cast is listed). Third, you list some minuscule extra roles such as; Amy Kincaid as Student B, Aimee Zannoni as Lady, Willow Lane as Narrator & Student C, but have no listing for Yukina (Elise Baughman), or Hijiri Kanata (Erica Shaffer). It just seems if the extras get mentioned Elise and Erica should since they had characters who appeared in the last few episodes, and were quite crucial to the last dvd of the series. Sorry to be nitpick and bothersome but I just felt you'd like to know the first three discrepancies at least.
edit: I forgot to mention you have 2 people listed as the voice of Kirie. Lulu Chaing and Jennifer Sekiguchi. Lulu Chiang is who the dvd credits list as the voice of Kirie. Is this a bad entry or did they change VA's mid stride and I not catch it? I'd be ashamed if I didn't |

Lulu Chiang and Jennifer Sekiguchi are one and the same person. I'd say it's erroneous in the sense of continuity as far as credits go. |

Sorry for the confusion; I hadn't gotten any sleep since waking up for class Tuesday when I posted this (and I agree, insomnia is a wonderful thing). To answer your question, yes, Stephanie Sheh uses her own name, as well as three other pseudonyms (Sekiguchi, Chiang, Hsieh). I understand your confusion well; until I read EmperorBrandon's post, I never knew that she used such a multitude of screennames. From the Tenjho Tenge thread:
Honestly, I'd say it's mostly due to avoid potential SAG problems. I've noticed that she'll use her real name when she voice acts on a big budget production such as Eureka seveN (good luck not getting noticed there), and will resort to a pseudonym on more niche, wow-what-a-small-fanbase show, like Haré + Guu. |

If the dub is union, then the VA's usually go under the real name (I think they are required to in that case). Whether a dub is union or not differs with the release studio and the dubbing studio. In the case of Eureka Seven, it's because Bandai Ent.'s stuff done in LA (through Bang Zoom, Animaze, etc.) has been union (since at least with titles released late 2002 to the present). The same goes for some of Viz's recent dubs through Studiopolis like Naruto and Zatch Bell. On the other hand, things from Geneon dubbed in LA (at some of the same studios like Bang Zoom) are almost always non-union, and of course goes for some others like Media Blasters and AN Ent. using Bang Zoom. The CrystalAcids database notes whether I title is union or not in cases where it is known or implied. |

Jesus, 4 names to keep track of. I still don't understand why bother to have all the pseudonyms. Guess that's just me. Thanks though for your help NGE. I'm going to Otakon so I really wanted to get this clear before hand so I knew who exactly is signing what lol.

"SAG" = the Screen Actors Guild; see Global Rule One. Members might loose their membership (and thus the right to work on union projects) if they were found to be working on a non-union project. However (IIRC), states such as Texas (where ADV Films, FUNimation, and Illumitoon are based) have "shall-work" laws, which allow companies to employ non-union workers, and operate non-union shops. Voice actors therefore often use pseudonyms to evade Global Rule One in order to obtain employment. (I hope I remembered that correctly.) |

After reading Global Rule One, thanks doc for the link, I find myself wondering why. Why does it matter who they work for. I mean seriously, I fail to see the big deal if it's a "non-union" job. Then again, having never worked for the union what do I know right? It all just seems pointless and childish in a way. "Work for us and follow or rules or you can't be part of our super adventure club anymore : Thank you doc and Brandon for the info and links. While I still consider it silly and pointless I at least understand why so many VA's have the different names for roles.
Since you're part of the encyclopedia staff Brandon, do you think my other 2 concerns hold any merit? They were simply little things I noticed and figured why not mention and see what happens. |

For any roles that are not yet entered in, go ahead and enter them in yourself and note that they are from the DVD credits in the source. Some entries aren't complete because people will enter in some of the preliminary cast information or just get the first volume, and then can't really finish up on it because they don't have later volumes. I'll take a look at the spelling errors and fix what I can. And as far as Lulu Chiang is concerned, if that's the only name that she's credited as, then it's the only name that should be there. Is that correct? (I don't have this series, so I can't really check) |

The Otakon site, where their guests are announced, had her as a different name. However, I am not sure if this is the case with the series itself. The only real way to know is I could check the ending credits for each dvd and episode and check if they're all the same name. Should only take 15 minutes or so. I could do that and let you know if multiple names are listed or not.
As for adding the stuff into the encyclopedia myself, can ya PM me and tell me how to do that lol. I am sooooooo not good with computers, and I wouldn't want to screw up trying to add the info and mess something up here in the encyclopedia. |
