Well Ghost Hound certainly has a great cast of people that are going to be working on this project, and with IG behind this it's sure to at least have some pretty good animation. I can't wait to see how this turns out, hopefully Shirow can write a story that we'll all love....

I know Masamune Shirow has a couple of posterbook collections called "Hellhound" and "Galhound." I wonder if this series is going to be related?
I'm hoping he's using the word Ghost in order to make an association with GiTS. If so then I will be very happy if the new series is based off the sci-fi police world created in "Galhound." But then again Ghost could also be implying supernatural and therefore be based on "Hellhound," which I wouldn't care for because of it's use of tentacle erotica. Don't get me wrong, "Galhound" is also erotica, but even GiTS included some erotica that never made it into animated form, so I hope it would be the same for "Galhound." Has there been new posterbooks or other Shirow works recently that this new series could be based on? Edit: Perhaps I should have looked at Wowow's page first. The background art certainly doesn't look sci-fi to me. My hopes up for nothing, oh well, perhaps it will be good to see Shirow out of this element. |

Well This has me pretty excited. I like Shirow's stuff pretty well, written or otherwise. From the link Avatar provided(aswell as ANN on the FP) I think it will be a trip. And I disagree, it looks very SciFi. If not, it will be interesting to see.
Or it could be a bunch of Japanification of mindless mush. But I would like to think it will be more good than bad. Anyway, sounds cool. Last edited by Dargonxtc on Fri Mar 23, 2007 6:10 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I agree with Avatar: it doesnt look sci-fi at all. It does look good, though.

I can almost promise you this will not have anything to do with GitS. Having watched this closly I can promise you this has nothing to do with Galhound or Hellhound either. I remeber Shirow saying a long time ago this he wanted to move away from GitS because as an artist he was completely fed up with only being know for it.
I can't find said interview so I can't be 100% on that but from the look for the art and the fact that those are tree, not cities or some cyber landscape, behind the girl then this will most likly be a supernatural affair. However, as seen in his early work like Orion, this could have a techno magical theme. Shirow loves tech so I can't rule it out either that this could be something like GitS but I really feel that he wants to move away from all that and begin something new and different. This is what all us Shirow nerds been waiting for, some new work! Cheers! |

Well, I already put up a thread on this yesterday, but received no replies. Ah well, I made it to be known, and am just glad to see it getting attention.
Fixed. Anyway, like I mentioned in the thread I created, this has the potential to be the best anime of 2007. I can't remember being this excited for an upcoming anime ever, and we don't even know the premise yet. The talent so far listed just makes me positively giddy. And as for this being similar to Ghost in the Shell, there's no question that it won't. If it's anything like what has been described for the anime it will be distinctly different.
"Occult tactic action"... now that sounds unique. Edit: Spruced up the post. Last edited by HellKorn on Fri Mar 23, 2007 7:37 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Agree, that sound GREAT! Loving the idea. Imagine an anime with the same depth as GitS tactics wise, but with ghosts and goblins and monsters and such. Geeking out now!

I love Orion, particularly for its mix of magic/occult & hitech, also for its' incorporation of Shinto Gods & myth. If GH is in this vein it could be a wonderfully quirky look at current Japanese supernatural/spiritual & futuristic/hitech memes through the eyes of my favourite Mangaka! Orion is also extremely funny & it'll be nice if they keep that vein of humour .... I've found a lot of humour in Shirows' mangas - usually seems to disappear in the resulting Anime. Is he taking a personal role in the production? I read somewhere that after an early Anime of one of his Mangas that he worked on - he never wanted to actually work directly with Anime again .... hence the divergence of all later Anime from the Mangas as he seems to have told Oshii et al - 'go for it, don't bother me'. GiTS Manga was often hilarious - GiTS films & TV lost that - although Oshii CAN use humour or at least comedy - viz Patlabor. Hope it won't be too CG - can anyone list the peeps ivolved so far. Very exciting this Regards, Nico M |

That would be Black Magic M-66 (OAV) which I've never seen, and felt a little underdeveloped even in the original (relatively short) manga. |

Ah yes - thanks - I have a Manga Entertainment UK DVD years old somewhere (must get sorted out). Enjoyed it but no real memory of it - unlike all the others .... hmmm. Wierd - looks like a good team was on it - I must look it out & watch again & Dominion Tank Police. Wonder why Orion was never made into an anime? It's about his only one that isn't, isn't it? And I loved the bratty Seska character - maybe too much nudity in it? Regards, Nico M |
