Help on identifying a anime?

Ok, I was watching a anime on cartoon network/Adult Swim about a year or two ago and I can not remember the name.
But It was a Mecha type anime.
The young pilots were going through training and it was in space.
There was a guy who thought that he was the <bleep> and he did not take his training seriously and there was this chick or something.
I cant remember.
And I know wasnt any Gundam
Can anyone help with the name?
Just throwing some names at me might help.
