Wow i didn't know that they changed the script so not to offend Christians. That's very respectable in my opinion (though if you are a Christian you REALLY shouldn't be watching this show anyway o_O).
The show in the second season gets WAY more offensive (the main character says "**** god!" and the church is pretty much portrayed as a corrupt evil organization throughout though i won't deny it hasn't been an issue in the real world).
Kind of wonder how they'll handle the show when they do the second part.

Interestingly, there aren't any scores included in the review. Is that just a mistake when posting it, or is it a shift in review policy?

Yeah, I do not see the grade scores either... I think it's just an honest oversight and should be corrected later on, not a new policy?
Interesting to see FUNi revise the English dub to exclude direct references to God or Lord. I wonder if it's because some of the voice actors had an issue with it or maybe just trying to make it more politically correct?

Wow... changing the script to be "less offensive". It's like I'm back in 1990.

Seems like Theron is always picking on Jamie Marchi even though I have yet to hear a disappointing performance from her... Rias being one of the best in her career, she was fantastic; maybe Theron was expecting a slightly higher pitch of voice.
Guess he has it out for her (but considering how much he gushes over other actresses I loathe I don't consider his taste to be very trustworthy sometimes)
There was also a lot of confusion that Chloe Daniels was an alias of Leah Clark (eventually proven to be a different person) so I find Theron's prediction that she'll become a regular a bit of a stretch...
Watch any Funimation voice actor panel and they'll always say they're like family and basically imply they look out for each other and ADR Directors USUALLY try to avoid hiring new talent with similar voices of existing talent (Solusod & Bosch being a rare case since the latter works primarily in LA). So what, Leah Clark will get less work now to make room for a newer clone even though she's been with Funimation for years?
IMO it's a dumb statement to say in a "professional review"
While there's always going to be similarities I also find it a bit odd this review basically rephrases topics covered in the DxD reviews at fandompost and BTVA...
Anyway regardless of ANN's review score (if added later) IMO DxD's dub is one of Funimation's best this year which so far has mostly been filled with just average or underwhelming dubs.
I look forward to DxD New's dub next year.

Well, as a Christian, I'm usually pretty amused by anime's take on Christianity, as the source material rarely shows any clear understanding of Christian cosmology. As a result, I don't take them seriously and think it is pointless to get upset over something so hilariously wrong.
Of course, Christians vary widely, so I am in no way implying that there aren't Christians out there that would be offended (maybe even deeply offended) with a show like this one. I'm just not one of them.
I thought this review was pretty accurate. I did notice the slightly different tone in the dub compared to the sub, but overall I enjoyed the series and am interested in seeing how the next season goes.
Just as an additional note: I have been keeping up with the current season, and the recent reveal (which I won't even put in spoilers) about the current situation regarding a particular character got a big chuckle out of me for sheer ridiculousness. As I said, I think it would be foolish for a Christian to take this series seriously in regards to how it handles our religion.

implies plagarism
It's possible to disagree with someone without insinuating really awful things about them or trying to discredit them entirely.

Er, no that was a careless oversight on my part. It's now corrected.

Different tastes, I guess. I've always thought that the quality of her voice makes her exceptionally well-suited to certain types of roles; in fact, there are some roles that I don't think any other American VA could fit even close to as well as she does, like Masane in Witchblade or Helen in Claymore. However, that supremacy comes at the cost of her voice not being as flexible as that of many other prominent American VAs. But that is, of course, just my opinion.

Then why didn't Leah Clark get this role, then? Why is there so much new blood in this one? Is it because some of the regulars were put off by the level of nudity in it or its profane nature? (I find that hard to believe, but it has happened before.) Or is it because Funi is trying to deepen their talent pool in response to constant fan complaints about always hearing the same voices over and over again? Besides, the kind of voice that Asia has in this is common enough in anime that I could see two actresses at Funimation or Sentai being kept busy doing those kind of roles.

Not liking what you're implying here, especially since I don't ever look at other reviews before writing mine.

I was kind of wondering when some of the clips Funi posted didn't have Akeno sounding....like Akeno. She wasn't enough of the sadistic Akeno I came to love in the sub.
Gotta wonder why Funi changed the references. Did they at least keep Fallen Angel?
Still getting it nonetheless, I'll just be sticking with the Japanese track.

Since some seem to be confused by my "eliminating references" comment, let me try to be absolutely clear here: I am only specifically referring to the words "Lord" and "God." No other kinds of words were changed.

It's funny to compare DxD to So I Can't Play H and Queen's Blade Rebellion as I didn't find either of those series to be entertaining at all. Rebellion dropping the basic fantasy style fighting with copious amounts of nudity for something - whatever a pirate robot with tentacles is - while I Can't Play H! was dull and - no, dull is enough of a problem as I only watched the first four, that's the largest issue.
D x D isn't a lot of things, great for example but it is well paced especially in the first five episodes, charmingly silly which includes the Chess motif as a stand in for "power levels" {rankings makes more sense than numbers or levels, you have to admit that much} and outright amusing when it feels like it.
I bought it as an afterthought, mostly along the lines of "I didn't hate, I actually liked it, I think" and the dub helped to tone out the generic undercurrent of the Japanese track.

I'm curious, did any of them use aliases or are they all real names?
