My apologies. I didn't know that there was a difference in the meaning of the spelling I am not an internet language savy person, I just come onto these forums to post and have a fun time talking to people about the things we love. I know from being on these forums for the past year that the staff gets pretty tired of having to deal with people who can't read the rules, and on top of that, don't know that this site is formal and doesn't deal with internet language. Which is why I really like this site compared to many others, because people basically can speak my "language". I was just trying to be helpful. |

It's fine and all and I know you probably didn't mean what I think you mean. But if you were to only post based on the assumption the "regulars" will be able to understand you automatically because it's grown to be a custom thing, then what about the new people who don't know this custom? Regardless of customs or not, I think it would be most fair to choose words that won't give out a possible negative meaning in a general sense that can be applied to not only people who can understand your language but the general community. It's fine and I like your idea. I hope it will be more specific because it wouldn't be good to have future complications caused by ambiguity because something stickied was too general. Better yet, your idea can be applied to the current stickied topic of something. Almost like part of a reference catalog of a sort. What I had in mind when I originally created this thread was a suggestion that was posted specifically at the moderators. I do not have to deal with these people who break the rules, but I can feel for those who have to, not just Tony K. and Nagisa, but the rest of the ANN administration as well. There will always be "new" people that come onto this site, and the ANN staff as well as the "older" and "regular" posters want to make sure that everybody has a good experience here. But there are rules here and the least that ANN could expect from anybody is that they at least make an effort to make that they follow them. I've seen how the mods make acceptions at times, as long as the posters do not go to the extreme. And even I have my own faults, I have had friends tell me what is the right and wrong thing to say at a certain time, so I will try to make sure that my wording will appeal better to your standards, if not everybody else's. |

They learn. That's what everyone has to do. When you join an Internet forum you are, for all intents and purposes, joining a new community. Rather than the entire community bending for you (not you specifically, Kefka, I'm just borrowing you for my example ), you need to bend a bit for the community. I've found it's never a bad idea to simply lurk for a few days after you join a forum and find out the general flow of things. Find out who the mods are and look at how they post. Find out what kind of threads get locked. Figure out what level of coherence and proper English is expected. Your chances of looking like a true n00b (rather than just someone who is new) go way down that way. |

I never said a community should bend for any individual. I'm stating how it's important to make a statement that won't be misunderstood in general especially people who don't know the customs and COULD be turned off by them. It's more fair to make a general statement that isn't just for regulars who post here but for everyone. There is no "either-or". It's about involving everyone not just new people who post or the "vets".
All I'm saying is to be more considerate. That's it. If you want to sum everything up. Well anyways, I apologize to all for this kind of going off topic. Carry on. |

Well, to be fair, the online anime community does possess more than its fair share of idiots and native English speakers with no grasp of, well, English -.-"
I personally don't just flame newbies out of the blue, though, so I can have my high horse and ride it too. One question, what is this thread's intent? Most likely it will either be down in the second page give or take a few days and ignored; there's already enough stickies as it is... Also, just an idea, but... would it benefit the forum if the basic rules are included in the registration activation mail (assuming this site uses one)? At least a few more people would see them. |

Nah most just click the linky to get registered ( or at least I do anyway ) when signing up for new forums. I doubt many actually read the mail. What might be an idea is compiling some of the stickies. Seems to be a lot of rule related ones ( which I assume is partly so people take note of the most common broken rules ) has to be an easier/cleaner way of doing that though. Would it be possible to have a header at the top with "announcements" ? i.e. Big Red " No Recommendations/Lists, Read Teh Rules, Think before you post" Atm threads are serving this purpose but it might be better to keep it out of threads. |

Yes, I was.
Can't say that I did. I voiced my opinion & remember a small amount of discussion w/Tony K about it, but nothing major. I think you may have missed my 2nd post in this thread:
This thread's title was just too silly to be serious about. |

My intent in creating this thread never was to flame newbies, but to give a suggestion to the mods to possibly take measures for this kind of thing. How many times do you think Tony K. has had to lock a thread because somebody has asked for something that doesn't exist? One indication that you can tell whether an anime series has a continuation or not is to see how old the original series of it was, and if there's been no news ever since then, isn't that a hint?
I for one, was serious when I posted, but I guess other people have thought otherwise. |

Not that many. From what I've seen less than 10% of "bad topics" have to do with asking about stuff that doesn't exist (second seasons or whatnot). "what do u tink about (whatever)???", "wher can i dl (whatever)", "what is (this anime)???" all pop up more often than threads asking about second seasons for Haruhi, Fruits Basket, Berserk, or whatever. People who make "bad topics" usually don't read the rules anyway, and definitely not a pile of already cluttered stickies. Plus the title sounds silly, and it took me almost a minute after clicking on the thread and reading the first post to understand what this was all about. Definitely not something someone who posted a bad topic to get a quick answer would bother doing. On the other hand, it must feel good to have a thread that you made stickied. |

Well, I was just trying to be helpful, and I don't know whether what I intended to do turned out to be more harmful or whether I just made a fool of myself. The point is, I was trying to make a point, and I think that the point has been made, and now there is not much to say on the topic.
