If you don't like the rules (which are an important part of Net convivence [sp?]), you can always leave peacefully. No one's forcing you to stay if you're a rulebreaker.

Take it or leave it.

There was already a popular and active thread about the best anime of 2006, and it's better to centralize such topics into one thread rather than 12 different ones.

As others have said, if you don't like it, leave.

Some posters are getting a little too nasty in their replies, but the point remains the same: all of the forum rules are here for the betterment of the forum. Virtually everything that's banned, whether it's lists, recommendation threads, not using proper English, flaming, trolling, or whatever, is that way because it's been a problem in the past either here or on other forums and distracts from the more serious and intellectual discussions that ANN's forums favor. This is one of the most civil and useful forums I've ever seen, which is why it's the only anime-related forum I regularly frequent.

Now if only we could find a way to block out these damned advertisement spammers. . .

I don't disagree, but it's not enough of an issue to keep me from participating.

I think the rules are great. No one here wants to read long meaningless lists or jerry springer-like threads. If you want recs, then find a rec page on the web. There are tons.

NO!! Don't get rid of the spam! I need a home mortgage loan for a house big enough to hold my anime loot!

Teh rules are fine, whether you like it or not.

They pay for the maintenance of the site, so they pretty much get to do what they want, including setting rules you and I ultimately have to follow Laughing

Sorry if I was a bit too harsh, but sometimes it's necessary to leave things as clear as possible n___nU

Anybody can dislike these rules but all you have to do is get used to it, or leave. It's that simple.

OR spam a couple hundred threads in an attempt to leave your mark and annoy the mods. knowing you're going to get banned just so you can go out with a bang.

(If you really do that, I will hate you for taking what I said. But laugh about it.)

ANN is well respected in the anime community and ANN would like to keep it that way. And one of those ways is to make sure that they enforce the rules on their forums, in the encyclopedia, and when they have to, ban spammers. And there have been some pretty bad ones. Not just robots.

i love the way that this forum is run because the rule breakers are generally stomped out well before i even see that they broke the rules. it is an intelligent forum that fully uses the english language instead of pretending that everyone in the world knows what lol, rofl, and the like mean. if they ain't in the dictionary, why use them? i'll admit that i have used them, but only in a minor sense, as do most others here.

contrary to the saying, these rules were not meant to be broken.

Uhhh..... I'm very nuetral so I don't know how to answer this.

Yuri Kawai wrote:
Like: "No recommendation threads allowed", "Don't make any list or whaterver"

I made a thread asking if there is any good anime with cute Shrine Maidens -> closed. Then one to ask what great anime I missed in 2006 -> closed. Evil or Very Mad

Recommendation threads have been forbiddon since too many n00bs didn't obey Rule #3 of tempest's rules.

Rule #3 wrote:
Discussions should carry some measure of intelligence to them. Consider if what you are writing is relevant or important to others. If it does not contribute to the discussion, do not post it. Please post detailed answers to questions, lists and one-liners do not contribute.

Because ANN wants to be considered an intelligent site, it's rules are pretty much strange to you. They're the most trusted source for anime news so in order to post, you have to bring out some intelligence. This is not Absolute Anime or Gaia.

If you don't like these rules, just leave the place without sending the admin hate PM that contains 90% of explicit profanity. The site is very serious business.

But eventhough I'm okay with these rules, I would like to see an off-topic hangout section.

As my name would suggest, i love the way this forum is run, i enjoy full and (at least attempted) proper spelling, along with nice discussion, if i want a recommendation list, i'd use a filter with the encyclopedia.
