Like: "No recommendation threads allowed", "Don't make any list or whaterver"
I made a thread asking if there is any good anime with cute Shrine Maidens -> closed. Then one to ask what great anime I missed in 2006 -> closed. |

What's wrong with a topics like "Do ye know any anime with cute Shrine Maidens" and then someone answers that "I know an ecchi anime with very cute Shrine Maidens".
How would that destroy this forum? |

Because before you came along, about half to 2/3 of all open threads were recommendation threads. It WAS destroying the forums because they were full up of about five "gimme an action anime" threads, six "gimme a comedy anime" threads, and three other miscellaneous recommendation threads at any one given time all operating simultaneously. It was ridiculous, and it got in the way of any other discussions anyone was wanting to have. Listing was similarly wrecking the forum, because you can't get any discussion going when the entire thread is twenty pages of... Hellsing Coyote Ragtime Show Gundam Dragon Ball Naruto Bleach Kanon New Kanon Cowboy Bebop The Other Gundam Air Gear The Other, Other Gundam Ikkitousen Samurai Champloo Samurai 7 Eureka Seven The Other, Other, Other Gundam Mai-HiME Mai-Otome Mai-Otome Zwei Big O Little O That OTHER Gundam That Might Not Even Exist Macross Roboteh Robocross Macrotech Ideon Sailor Moon Evangelion RahXephon The Old, Crappy Negima The New, Decent Negima Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda Yadda And Anon And yes, that was ridiculously prevalent, too. What's wrong with asking people to exercise more than a half a brain cell and do a little more than spit out random names? |

Personally, I wouldn't have bothered with posting in this forum if I have to sift through XX amount of "tell me what to watch next" threads to find one where I can participate in an intellectual, meaningful discussion. I too think that banning recommendations and mindless listing is for the best.

Exactly. Listing and recommending tend to be pointless especially on a site like this one where there's an abundance of information that you could go ahead and look up for yourself. And I was actually surprised to see the level of discussion on this forum to be so high. I wasn't planning on staying around too long (just a post in the talkback forum), but I like it here. So I think that all the rules are great and the moderators do a great job. |

Wow, I remember reporting both of those topics because I didn't find anything in either one of them that was discussion worthy. Let's examine them: Please recommend me some animes I saw your post and thought, "there's no discussion being started. It is just one person saying they love shrine maidens. No other reason for liking the anime. I know of a show that is bloody and people get decapitated that has miko, how do I know this person would like it? All he is asking for is cute or sexy etc." And then I think, "Then again if the only prerequisite this person has is that the anime involve miko then why not just do a search?" I do a search, pop up more than a few titles instantly on google and then think, "well that was easy, why didn't this person do that? Meh, it was a bad post anyway, the person never said why he loves miko or why he likes anime with miko, I'll just report it." Notice that I had more thought in whether or not to report your post than you added to the actual post. Here's the second one: What great animes I missed in 2006? First of all before reading any part of it all I saw was a list. I see some titles I think were crap, some that I thought were decent, and some that I haven't seen yet. So I wondered what was the list about and I read that this is what you called the "great" anime you saw in 2006. OK, so I was stumped, why did this person think these titles were great? Why the long list of titles that don't have anything in common whatsoever? And then at the end you ask for what other "great" anime you missed in 2006. First of all I think about posting a link of the ANN encyclopedia list of anime by year, but then I thought, "well that is just a list too. How do I know that they were all great, or that this person would even agree with some of the ones from last year that I thought were great." Basically, even if recommendations were allowed, by posting a long random list that doesn't tell me anything, how am I supposed to know what anime you would like? I am not against recommendation threads, I am against bad recommendation threads that don't say anything. And since the majority of recommendation threads go this route, I am in agreement to not allow them. And as for random listing, again, lists that don't tell me anything don't really make me want to contribute to a topic. I don't know how others feel but I like posts that tell me what and why in detail, so that I can reply with my "what and why" and then we can discuss. Neither of your topics made me feel like posting anything. Why should I contribute to your topic, if you don't even bother to. If you make the effort to write sensible and intellectually stimulating posts, all these rules really would not bother you. So if these rules and stickied rules are causing irritation, then the rule of four should be taken into consideration.
1. Stop. 2. Think. 3. Research. 4. Write. Interacting in forums can be fun and they can boring. Serious discussions are more fun than random thoughts, find this for me, or list this kind of threads. Just take the time and you will find out the information that you are looking for. |

No. What's weird is that you haven't been banned yet. If you can't deal with the rules (which are a normal part of every forum) and feel the need to create a useless thread about your inability to do so, get off this forum and get a life. |

This forum is more strict than most, but it's to ensure quality discussion and reduce the amount of spam and repetitive topics. I fully support the mods here and they are very understanding, you do have to play by their rules tho. It's not too hard, really.
