Well, I don't really get moody. I just feel lost, scared, and much to my dismay, I get depressed when there's too much people around me. spoiler[I even cry... I'm pathetic -___-U]

Wow, do you have that backwards! You must be drinking the wrong rum, man....like the kind mixed in somebody's bathtub. Captain Morgan is one of the most glorious beverages known to man.
To you, maybe. While I've been known to occasionally drink some pretty foul stuff just to keep drinking, I legitimately enjoy the taste of probably 95% of what I drink. Alcohol is like coffee: virtually no one likes coffee the first time they drink it, but once you force yourself to drink it a few times, you start to notice that you like it, and many people develop a fine palette and very particular tastes for their addiction (either coffee or alcohol).
1-2 drinks a day for men and 1 drink a day for women is healthy, and leads to better cardiovascular health (here). To quote the article, "It's safe to say that alcohol is both a tonic and a poison. The difference lies mostly in the dose."
A very true statement, and if you are a violent/angry drunk, that's a very good reason to NOT drink. I'm a very good natured and friendly drunk, and alcohol mostly acts as a "social lubricant" for me (to quote the great movie Roger Dodger).
Shyeah right. I go to both anime and comic conventions on a fairly regular basis, and they all take alcohol-fueled partying to egregious levels. If you don't believe me, check out this great article Geeks Gone Wild about the crazy goings-on after hours at the tiny sci-fi/fantasy convention Archon in Collinsville, IL. |

Geeks gone wild! lol! This article is quite hilarious. Alcohol tastes better when mixed with pop or juice. If you don't like rum, mix it in with some coke. Vodka coolers taste yummy because the company mixes it with something.

Me too, man. Weird. I'm the only person I know like that. I spent a day in NY and was ready to punch someone's lights out for looking at me wrong by the time I was on the train home. Normally I am the nicest guy you could know. (The most humble too, clearly.) But when I spent a day with friends in NYC, I was able to keep feeling pretty good. I didn't "crap out", as I sometimes call it, at all. Part of it, for me, is simply not eating properly when I'm in a social situation. "Not eating properly" = "not eating at all", generally. Then my chemistry gets all out of whack, and it's downhill from there As far as drinking, I also am a tee-totaler. I refuse merely based on principle: - I can't stand the possibility of having my judgment impaired even a little or my tongue loosened even a little. - Alcohol has a bad history in my family. Enough said. - Evidence that I have inherited an addictive pesonality. I can't say whether most geeks abstain from alcohol, but I once heard it said that anime nerds don't do drugs, because their drugs are anime. Some people use illegal substances to escape reality, some just use Japanese animation Even if it's not totally true, I like to think it is. to each his own.
I like booze, weed AND anime. In fact, if i am coming home drunk on a weekend night, i'm usually watching anime on latenight TV in order to stop the full effects of a hangover the next morning! Thanks anime! |

From what I gather, it is. At school, anime fans like me are always being taunted with, "People who like anime are fat nerds who just sit in their room all day...(not appropiate) and have no friends."
Of course not all otaku are fat. If every otaku was either fat or thin, that would be utterly ridiculous. But this thread is about stereotyping, so it's either this or that, I suppose. On a side note, this thread has slightly turned into an alchohol thread. Hmm...I guess this is what happens when you neglect your own thread " |

hmm... well my boyfriend is geeky (loves games, anime, loves sci-fi, doesnt wear his pants lowlow, glasses, DND's, wears white socks with black shoes, brushes hair to side) but likes his hard liquor, Scotch on the rocks etc.. -_-.. though I think that it is quite a common trait.. |

I'm not overweight and most people say I'm not fat, although I feel I could lose a few pounds. I am quite shy, but I do talk once in a while and I'm not anti-social. I just don't around a lot with the people in my area because I don't share the same interests as them. I don't think it's being anti-social.
I used to collect things, but that hobby kinda died. Being a nerd and high achiever is actually a popular trait here at my school, but I'm not obsessed with anything nor am I super smart so I'm not a nerd I guess. |

I spent some time in Tokyo. For the people that have been there can say that it is very crowded. I was walking around with my brother most of the time so it was not so much of a big deal. But when I was walking alone I felt like drop-kicking someone.I had to get out of the crowds as fast as I could.Shinjuku and Shibuya are nice places to go but the crowds are horrible. If you go and you hate crowds beware the stations.

Let's see...
Body size: since many people ask me what diet that I'm following to remain in shape, I guess I'm not fat -this actually stems from having healthy eating habits, but I'm kind of lazy when it comes to excercising. Appearance: I'm like Miyazawa Yukino from Kare Kano, I only wear glasses and throw on whatever article is clean, but I pay attention to how good I look before going outside, so I'm 50% geeky. Socializing: I would stay home over going outside whenever I have something new to watch/read/play, this lasts depending on how engrossed I am. |

I'm retardedly skinny. Even had my friends calling me 'retardo' since I stay cooked up in my dorm room not bothering going out, save for when I do need to relieve myself in the bathroom.
I used to do iRC scripts, but I don't think that falls on the geeky level, and for any obsession? Well, collecting anime is one, and perhaps the only one. So, I might be borderline otaku. |

No, aside from the wall scrolls and shelves of anime there's really nothing "otaku" about me, and I'm happy about that because personally I hate the term "otaku" and the way many people use it (in our outside the fandom).
But basically, I do not cosplay. I don't spend all my money on anime and manga, don't even regularly read manga for that matter. I don't have any obsession or fascination with Japanese culture to a degree that is greater than my appreciation of any other culture. I don't have any irrational dislike of dubs, animation outside Japan, or purist tendencies. I don't talk about anime with other fans I know to any huge degree aside from when we're having a viewing session. I've never been to an anime convention. I have never been in an anime club. I do not know Japanese and have no intention of learning it. And I could go on but you get the idea. |

What Keonyn said.
Also, I have no aversion to booze, as was discussed above. It's been an interesting experience meeting folks from the local con forum and seeing where they fit on the continuum. The chair, like me, works in the real estate development business and by all outward appearances, is indistinguishable from a non-fan. There are other folks, however, who I can tell don't have many other hobbies. I don't get that, but then, I was already a film geek before discovering the fun of anime a couple years ago at the age of 27. It kind of surprises me when I talk to an anime fan who hasn't seen Lost in Translation. |

Not really, well, then again i'm thinking of the "japanese hikkomori otaku" type here. Haha.
Although I know more about anime then how to cook dinner, I only have a few anime DVDs (I mooch off rental services and my friends), but I do have a few figurines, but they are greatly outnumbered by my plushie collection and the blinding amount of pink in my room I favored when I was younger. I can sometimes be reclusive, unwilling to go out of my room. But my butt starts to hurt and I have the urge to randomly go places. I don't think I would fit the "american obsessed anime fan otaku" either. Although I have my favorite anime characters and I know a lot about anime, I stray away from fangirl tendancies. (or so I think) |
