Well I would have to say that Black Lagoon is my favorite for 2006 . I had heard about it on here and decided to check it out and I have to say it was one of the best action show I have seen. The characters were all interesting, and were fun to watch during the fights. Each of the arcs flowed very nicely and didn't feel rushed. The runners up would be Death Note and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Death Note has one of the coolest characters of 06 and probably one of the most difficult to like yet difficult to hate, he does some pretty messed up things that may piss you off and yet you have think he is cool cause of how damn smart he is. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was also good...it is actually hard to describe it but it just was something I liked it had comedy, drama...it was just all around fun to watch. The characters were all interesting especially Kyon and Haruhi, both had personalities that were made them likable. I suppose I should also mention Yuki (one of my favortie female characters) since she was a favorite of mine just cause she was probably the most sain out of the bunch and she was an alien. Laughing

I also think that Code Geass deserves an honerable mention because this one caught me off guard...it is one of the best mech series I have seen in a long time and even though the first episode gave me similar feeling about it as other mech series it really seperated itself IMO from the bunch with a interesting main character (who is another favorite character of this year), an interesting plot and some very cool mech battles. It also has another of my favorite female characters CC who reminds me alot of my most favorite female character of this year Revy (from Black lagoon) Both are very b*tchy and don't take crap from anyone especially the guys they hang out with, though CC is alot less of a fighter. Wink

As far as anime on DVD: I am really liking XXXholic, it has a very interesting female character who ranks number 4 on my favorite female character of 06. Her assistants are pretty funny in a odd way and aree fun to have in the series. I found that the main characters normality was a good contrast to Yuuko's assistants.

My favorite for 2006 is definitely Eureka Seven. I really like the series right now, from the great story and characters to the great animation. The fantastic dub acting is just icing on the cake for me. I have not been able to follow it on Adult Swim for various reasons, so I've been sticking to the DVD releases and I've been psyched and looking forward to every release so far. The combination of the great and interesting story plus sweet mecha designs is a winner.

Right now, it looks like Bleach, Noein, and Rumbling Hearts are going to be my favorites of 2007, though.

I have puzzled over this post for the last week.

I juggled Haruhi's (Ouran and Melancholy). That, as a coin toss, is still too painful to call. I can feign blindness, and ask for smelling salts.

But, there is also NHK ni Youkoso. There's a bull on the plain.

And Honey and Clover II, GOD...choice really is another form of hell.

Ahem...I realize this whole thread is about decision.

So, here is my humble voice...

NANA.

I'm not a shoujo fan by any pull of definition. My wife said "hey watch this..."

32 episodes later I'm pacing and waiting for the next fix.

Edit-tried to fix things.

Here's the official "The FZ presents: My best PIX (not WPIX) of the year" list for 2006!
presented by: Tony K., everyone's friend! (you gotta love the admins and mods)
In the first run/premere dept.:
On TV- Props to Bleach for a sucessful fall season! i'll look forward to more new episodes during "The year of Chaotic, SOS Brigade, & Shohen Jump-baised shows".
My runner-up for this is: Nartuo - Basicly, it's becoming another "Pokemon"-baised fan eruption.
On DVD- FMA is #1 because the seires ended, but the DVD/magna sales keep racking up!
My runner-up for this is: Welcome to the NHK - did not watch it yet, but accoring to Newtype-USA, i've heard it's good, i would have chosen paoniponi instead of this, but it's most talked about right now, next to Negmia!?
++++
In the finalies dept:
On TV- Inusaysha's 2-part finalie, how tragic is to see everyone's favorite half-demon for the very last time, i almost cried.
My runner up for this is: N/A (no finales, expect Kirby's last episode, and some other shows that we don't care about...)
On DVD- 3 Letters and a word: FMA Movie, the "said" final episode of FMA, also almost cried, my brother bought kleenex just in case, after he rented the dvd.
My runner up for this is: N/A ( no finalies on DVD, i just don't know of any, expect IY Movie 4, the last IY movie of the series )
++++
In the repeats dept:
On TV- R.O.D. The TV in Canada, Oh Canada! the only place to watch anime on cable, next to YTV's big pile of TBAs.
My runner-up for this is: The return of MCK, it's been awhile since Disney found old episodes it their closet, some of which were formally of Saban/FOX Kids i was a Fanda-mon-iac in 2002 and i'm still am, i wonder if they're going to air some un-aired episodes that FOX did not air due to the 4KidsTV (the anime butchers)'s invasion in fall 2002.
On DVD- Naruto DVDs, no wonder people buy them, just to watch some show thats causing chaos in the anime fanbase world.
My runner-up for this is: The DBZ films, Funi just doesn't quit with it's trademark franchise, and with "First Bout (DVD collection of first 3 DBZ films)" on sale, who whould buy them, the Salior Moon fans?
++++
In the new anime (never heard of, but now i do) dept:
On TV- Bleach, all the way!
My runner-up for this is: Of cource it would be E7, but i prefer [as]'s other new anime, T.B. i mean with editing a 34 minute anime show into a suitble 24 minute show is one thing you can expect from ADV, and [as], i would have chosen .hack//Roots but it seems that we have to wait for spring to arrive, and for the arrival of SOS Brigade in america.
On DVD- Negmia!? I've seen alot of people talking about it, and they said the show is good, however, i've not seen it yet, but i've heard is great.
My runner-up for this is: SOS Brigade, it's becomming a japaneese juggernaut in japan, now that the seires is comming to the states in 2007, i'm giving the show a nudge in my list so it can gain publicity in ANN, and its SOS fanatics that post here, i was normaly going to put the latest Tenchi Muyo DVD, but i'm not going to let my SOS fanatics become disappointed.
++++
In the Worst of the Worst dept:
On TV- The execution of One Piece on TV, more like the Saddam of USA anime, i hate you 4Kids Entertainment Inc. !
My runner up for this is: I've got nothing.
On DVD- I've got nothing...
My runner up for this is: N/A
=======
And so ends 2006, but what will 2007 bring us, SOS Brigade in the USA, more Bleach and their DVD premere, and more episodes of Naruto, and truckloads of Megaman games that G4 has to review during the new year, some non-anime show named "Chaotic", and possibly, Un-aired MCK episodes that Disney might air. Wink

Happy New Year 2007. Very Happy

It appears that nobody noticed the thread title (Your Single Most Favorite Anime of 2006) or read the OP's post

I did not specify whether "Anime of 2006" was fansub or R1 releases so mentioning either is fine so long it sticks to only ONE Anime mentioned.
but anyway...
I really enjoyed Fate/Stay Night. I think one of the main reasons is because of the character development and styling. It easily made me obsessed with Type-Moon's style and other (non-H) works. The story wasn't fantastic, but the idea and different arcs were all fun to watch. I didn't watch too many of the new releases this year but it beats dancing anime/moe blob Haruhi...oshi- *runs for cover*

I think any crying over the Inuyasha finale is from having wasted 167 episodes worth of time for a typical inconclusive Rumiko Takahashi anime ending.

"Who would buy them? The Sailor Moon fans?" doesn't make much sense--I'd think the DB fans would buy them.

How was Trinity Blood edited from a 34-minute anime to a suitable 24-minute anime? It wasn't 34 minutes to begin with. Plus, it was localized by Funimation, ADV had nothing to do with it.

The show's title is "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," not "SOS Brigade." It's becoming a "Japanese juggernaut in Japan"? Ever considered writing speeches for George W. Bush? That line would go great next to "More and more of our imports are coming from foreign countries."

I don't think you mentioning Haruhi in this list is going to gain it any publicity, I guess you haven't seen that 75 or so page thread we have on the series. You've underestimated the power of the SOS brigade, it's already huge here at ANN.

My first response would be to say that my favorite for 2006 is a tie between The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Ouran High School Host Club. But, if you're going to be a stickler about the "single" part, I would have to say that while I love both of them dearly, I know in my deepest heart of hearts that Ouran would win. Why? Probably because it managed to push all the right emotional buttons for me, providing not only humor but also realistic character development and an evolving group dynamic. Plus, the plot structure was absolutely one of the best I've seen; if you're a sucker for endings that come full-circle with their beginnings (like I am), then this show is for you! And don't even get me started on the symbolism! **goes starry-eyed**

I still love Melancholy (and how weird that both of my favorite shows feature a heroine named Haruhi), but I think much of my delight stemmed from the disjointed order of the show; now that I know everything that happens, some of the initial excitement has worn off a bit. But, I do still think that whoever conceived of the non-linear broadcast order was a genius, and that Melancholy definitely sets the bar higher for all other anime to come.

And, I also have to mention that if this was a "top three" post, I'd easily give that spot to Honey & Clover. It took me a few episodes for me to get into the story, but once I did, it was a realistic emotional ride. Characterization is king here, too.

The only thing i hate about Mr. Kahn's company is the disrepectful sin we call "One Piece - english dub", everything else, stays in the good side, i still like 4Kids, but i just hate shows that have been "butchered" by them.
Plus, i was angry at the tIme the post was posted.

I can't comment on fansubs, since I rarely watch them.

So, my choice is, most definately, Princess Tutu. As a kid, I loved ballet and fairy tales--a love that I stil have--and Princess Tutu does justice to both of them more than almost any animation out there (Disney, at their best, gives it a run for its money in the fairy tale department--barely). I love how the show used effects that made it seem like the characters, at times, were on a stage....spotlights, darkening effects, the crows being portrayed as humans in costume, etc.

But the best thing about the show is definantely the character development. The way the characters grow and evolve through the show is extremely memorable, particularly Rue and Fakir. As a writer, I loved the whole "storytelling" aspect, too. And Drosselmeyer is an awesome character, as well. There's great acting in both the english and japanese versions...

Really, I can't rave about the series enough. The only thing I don't like about the show is the large hair for some of the characters, but after a whie you get used to it.

I just love Princess Tutu. It's probably one of my favorite series ever, and definately my favorite this year.

For me, I have to say it was The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I began watching it prior to all the hype, thinking that it would be a comedy series on par with titles such as School Rumble & Azumanga Daioh, but it ended up being much more than that.

The dialogue was very witty and funny, causing me to laugh out loud many times, and being a lover of comedy, any series that gets me laughing is considered a good series in my book. The animation was also very good to look at.

Though the main fascination I have with this series is that it seemed like a high-school comedy at first glance, but it had all these hidden and dark undertones to it, which I didn't expect at all. The episode mix-up was also cleverly done, with little details being placed all over the series that are usually unrecognizable at first glance. The series had many memorable characters as well, with a good portion of them not even being the main cast, from Kyon's sister (spoiler[loli in a bag, anyone?]) to Tsuruya to the cat.

As much as I liked Haruhi, there were alot of runner-ups, those being Welcome to the NHK!, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Kanon 2006 and Season 2 of School Rumble. Personal favourites such as Soul Link, Jyu Oh Sei, Magikano, & Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na ~Crescent Love~, as well as my sleeper hits, which include Saiunkoku Monogatari, REC, Hanbun Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, & Asatte no Hoko have emerged this year. I have to say that I enjoyed a good portion of the anime that've been released in Japan this year/

You might be aware that pure lists as posts are discouraged on this board, motivation and discussion being encouraged instead. Just an FYI, in case you don't get many replies. I can only speak for myself, but seeing as I already gave my "votes" earlier in this thread, I'm not going to retype it for your poll. Your Resource #3 link might also be questionable in this place.
