Sounds like a company I work for. I don't understand why companies just have to screw their employees. It just doesn't make sense. They get you services you can use/sell, and you treat them like crap.

In all seriousness, I had heard that IC was having issues for a while but this was the first time I had heard of the purging of its employees. Does anyone know what happens to licences if a company goes under? *Serious question*

i would think it becomes a matter of the courts. If (now it seems like "when") IC declares bankruptcy, then they have to sell off their assets to pay creditors. I would think that liscenses would fall under these "assets".
Pure speculation on my part, go ask a business lawyer. |

They made a lot of promises they can't keep like for example the Evangelion Rapport Comics tankobans that they were raving that they got the rights to...That was about hmm 5-6 years ago LOL.
IC needs to close shop and sell off their licenses to either Tokyo Pop or Viz if they want to save some face. I would hate to think all that money they did have was wasted on "teabagging" and drunken con parties with jailbait cosplayers. |

In most cases, the license reverts back to the original owner if a licensee goes under. The courts really only step in if the original license holder feels that the licensee owes them something. Most licenses have built in clauses to cover these situations. It protects the interests of the original company to make sure their license doesn't get picked up by someone else because the licensee had to sell off their assests. |

Some licences could get sold, others could actually remain, despite the company going under (Since they aren't permenent, they are "rented" for so many years). They could disappear into a legal black hole, go back to the Japanese publisher, etc.
If IC Ent. folds you won't see those titles back on shelves for at least 3-4 years. |

No offense to I.C's catalogue, but many of the licences they held were more of a niche market to begin with, wouldn't this raise concerns that we may never get these titles back over here?
