i don't see why they don't just combine forces, it would be more beneficial to both parties. even better if they get more companies on board.

But they are 2 out of 400 possible channels (3 if AN's VOD is a separate channel. I'm in an area that doesn't get AN.). They have more to worry about with the other channels as competition imo. I would imagine that CN/AS also has to be there too.

Agreed, but I also like to say that now with IFC getting more anime they also have to be throw into the conversion as well.....I like to see the results from these two channels somewhere down the line to see how they stack up against one another. |

Just another page in the Texas Studio Rivalry. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of friendly competitiveness between ADV and FUNi.
Yay rivals! |

I'm not entirely sure if this applies to the US as it does in Australia, but that sort of manuver would (could, should, can be, etc) be considered Anti-competetive behaviour and fined (IE making less choice for the consumer and putting an even tighter grip on the market to knock out any possible future competition). Then again the entire thing could be pants, I dunno. Maybe FUNimation wants to run things differently to how ADV would (IE FUNimation wants to be coherant in their scheduling ) |

It's kinda neat just thinking that you can have 2 different anime channels...in Texas. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I see anime on cable (besides Cartoon Network). Hopefully I will look back at this post many years down the line and chuckle.

Each of these companies has walked their own path to lead them to the battle they now face. FUNimation has long reaped the harvests of its domination of the amazing Dragonball franchise. But not content to rest on its laurels, FUNi has always saught new ways to re-invent its offerings, with offbeat dramas, dark and epic action, smartly-dubbed comedy, and soul-rending romance. But challenger A.D. Vision has faught a brilliant match thus far, bringing a dazzling array of sensations to the eyes of anime fans. Building on their foundations in colossal robots and titillating pleasures, ADV counters with their own expanded and surprising menu of parody comedy, irreverant ADR writing, cute dramas, and bold risks like Diamond Daydreams that shocked us all. Our seasoned judges looked equally impressed with the feast created by each company, and the scores can only be close. The intensity is mind-shattering! ADV or FUNi, who will win? Who gets the glory, and who must face defeat? WHO WILL REIGN SUPREME?!?

It's generally handled on a case-by-case basis. Given that the two networks are relatively new and the media consolidation that exists already, I doubt it would be a problem in this case. |

Interesting variety for the 10 people who have the Anime Network and the 4 people who have the FUNimation Channel.

A few years ago the FCC changed some of the anti-trust guidelines, and now massive media consolidation is given much more latitude. America is slowly becoming less competitive and former consumer protections are being given the boot in favor of protecting business interests. The fact that not everybody cares or is even able to connect the dots doesn't change that. Most Americans have no clue just how screwed up our justice system or healthcare systems are until they're already depending on them. By then it's too damn late, of course, but that's what happens when you don't pay attention. America is the slumbering superpower that can't see past the gate of our own fenced-in neighborhoods until we're already living on the street. |

I'm curious if its the VOD version fo the channel or not. If its VOD then I don't consider them to be in real competition.
