Hello guys! I'm hoping for a little bit of help as venturing away from UK/US releases is very new to me.
I am looking to buy the 12 Blu-ray releases of Kimi to Boku (You and Me) which are only available (which I have seen) from Japan. I am looking to buy all the sets from HMV JP but I can not find any information on if the blu-rays contain English subtitles. I have been on Aniplex's JP website but I cannot find their back catalogue for more information. Amazon JP was no help ether. Here is a link to one of the box sets on HMV. What I am hoping is for someone to advise me on ether: If they know for sure that the Kimi to Boku releases will contain English subs. or If anyone has brought an Animplex release form Japan and can advise on the availability of subtitles on their purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to spend £450ish without know exactly what I am getting. Thanks muchly in advance.

FYI we have a thread dedicated to Asian releases with English subtitles. WTK, the local deity, even has an up-to-date spreadsheet in the first post.
And, according to said spreadsheet, Kimi to Boku does not have subs.
It's a crapshoot, man. I mean, Fate/Zero, Black Rock Shooter, Dog Days (first season) and TTGL all have subtitles. Yet Nekomonogatari, Blast of Tempest, and Guilty Crown don't. Aniplex and Bandai are the two companies most likely to include subs on their releases, but they still don't do it 100% of the time. But who the hell needs subs anyways! AMIRITE!? |

Thanks for the link and your help. I'll refer to the spread sheet from now on.
I can understand why titles do not as the Japanese don't need to read their on language in English but I find it rather pointless that some release do and others don't. A bit of consistency would be much appreciated. Ah well I might pick them up anyway as the Limited editions are pack with some goodies
I wish you were right

What you really need to consider is if those extras are worth the money or not, seeing as you won't actually play the discs themselves. What I used to do when I had just starting importing Tari Tari and Kokoro Connect was to watch, say, 2 eps in 480p on CR first, then play the same episodes on my PS3 from the equivalent BD volume. This is a neat solution if you're not receiving 15 BD volumes a month.
Any drama CD would be useless you know Japanese. Any episode guide/script replica whatever would be useless unless you can read Japanese. If there's an art book or portraits or whatever with the BDs, you might as well just get an art/fan book for 1/20th of the price. As a regular importer, I'm not trying to discourage you or anything, I mainly import to support the creators as I don't know Japanese either. I just download the 1080p rips and I'm fine with that. Make sure you are too! You might not want to buy all the volumes at once because £450 is a lot of money if you're not used to importing on at least a semi-regular basis. Then again, you might not want to buy 1/2 of a show and then start regretting it either. You could always go with the least risky option and buy them used through YAJ via a proxy. It's generally much, much cheaper (complete S2 is on there now for 17k yen which is like 50% cheaper). Anyway, I'd probably buy the first two volumes and take it from there. Try my CR method above. It'll make you appreciate Blu-ray ten times more, and it shouldn't be the worst way to learn a bit of Japanese. You can pick up a few words here and there because you've just watched the same episode with subtitles. If you end up losing interest or not seeing the light or whatever, you can safely skip buying the rest and you won't have spent too much money. |

I treat my imports without subs (only AnoNatsu and Dempa Teki right now) as trophies. I mean, I haven't popped either of them into my BD player, and I've had them for over a year now. It's not so much about supporting creators or getting the neat trinkets as it is I think it's cool to have Japanese releases; even the plain ones like Denpa Teki. Japanese releases aren't on a lot of US collector's shelves, and it makes me feel awesome to know that I'm a part of a tiny percentage (JP importer) of a small percent (collector) or an already small percent of people (anime fan).
I don't think I'm better, I just think I'm cooler

The King of Harts, that what I was thinking with these. It is in my top five anime of all time and I have box sets of all the others so this would complete my "favourites" list. Also the box sets come with sound tracks, pictures, original stories (that I would not be able to read but would be cool to look at) and other little bits and pieces which to me make a collection. (On a little side note I am starting to grab the Kimi to Boku manga as well as Ōkiku Furikabutte [Big Windup] just for the trophy aspect.)
In regards to watching the show with subs, I am a premium Crunchroll member so as Nico87 stated I can watch these at anytime in HD. But as a cost cutting method I will most likely grab the standard DVD versions of Kimi to Boku as I will not watch the actual show, just appreciate the fact they look pretty on my shelving.
