If they were going to continue Berserk, they would've done so a long time ago. The series is over and done with. Unless you hear something or see an article here at ANN, don't hold your breath.

If they were going to continue the series, I'd say wait till about 2011, then you might get word.

I'm sure we could get something. I never thought Hellsing would continue in anime form. But thanks to the financial backing of Geneon, we now have the OVAs.

Personally, I'd say Berserk is a lot more popular and has a pretty good chance of attracting potential investors. It's just a matter of who's willing to do so.

I've not read much of the manga myself, but I hear there's quite a bit of material. Whoever decides to put their money in this has to be filthy rich, though. But my point is, you never really know...

How popular was Berserk in Japan? It was such a unique series, I'd think at least it should deserve a spinoff or prequel. If not to continue the story but to just bring back certain characters.

If I remember correctly, the creator said he will continue the series in anime form as soon as he finishes the manga, which could be up to 10 years from now. Hopefully if they do they will start at the beginning and follow the manga, including all the characters in it and such.

Kentarou Miura will not finish the manga before all of us here are dead, and he will live that long because--since he's become such a great artist--he has ascended to a state of demi-godhood.

In all seriousness, the anime excludes some characters that are vital to the storyline, if it were continued (like Skull Knight). I'd be interested to see what they'd do with it. The first anime was obviously toned-down a lot from the manga, so if this were a TV series, it'd have to be toned-down somewhat as well. I don't think an OVA would work, because it's such a long series.

BONES should do it. Yes. They did 51 episodes of very well-animated FMA. They can do that for Berserk. Heck yes.

It's strange when I first joined here this question was often asked all the time and normal response was something around the lines of when hell freezes over....And now with Hellsing (OVAs) everything really has changed, it makes you wonder what series might get chance to be remade.....I am guessing that Berserk has the best chance, based on how popular that series has remained over the years....except I don't think that MB has a lot on money to help produce OVA like Geneon was able to with Hellsing.
Till next time,

I've long been waiting for them to just do the next arc of the story, not the whole thing-- say, up to where spoiler[Griffith is reborn and Guts saves Casca and takes her back to Gendo's caves], or perhaps just up to where they begin they're journey to Elfhelm. That would be an interesting arc to see, has character development, action, reintroduces lots of the main characters, and yet, could probably get done in a 12 ep OVA. After that point you've gotta wait up till somewhere that hasn't been written yet, but I think where I mentioned would be a find breaking off point.

spoiler[Guts doesn't save Casca, and if they were to leave out the Skull Knight in the anime they'd better come up with a good excuse of how they get out of the Eclipse.]

There's really no way I could avoid that, since pretty much all of what I said is related to the manga and could actually spoil and tell a reader something they didn't want to know.

fighterholic, I don't understand your comment re: Guts and Casca. Of course spoiler[he saves her,] in the arc I'm discussing-- which is during the spoiler[second Eclipse].

Ahhh, I see now-- you thought I was talking about the aftermath of the spoiler[first Eclipse]. I'd include that too, for sure, along with Skullknight and everything.

I've had this debate many times, and I'm just one of those people who thinks it wouldn't be very hard to introduce his character right in the midst of spoiler[the first Eclispe], or in flashbacks, and that, by the same token, it wouldn't be hard to devise a way to introduce Puck after spoiler[Guts leaves Casca at Gendo's cave after the end of the first Eclipse].

I'm not really one of those people who thinks the anime has to have total fidelity to the manga-- modern remakes of older anime shows often seem to be bad, IMO, and if more Berserk were ever to get made, the idea that they should just start over from the beginning and "do it right this time" just doesn't seem like realistic thinking to me. What would be more likely to happen is a continuation of the story, told in some way that would allow it to be it's own "independent" viewing experience, so that newer viewers could jump right in and not have to have watched the "first season" of Berserk-- much like Zeta Gundam, for example. Perhaps you don't think that's possible, but I think the end of the first show is a pretty good breaking point, etc. etc.

But whatever-- it's all aimless wonderful speculation. Smile

Stuff to clear things up

Okay, yeah spoiler[he does save her in the second eclipse], I thought we were limited to the anime. But spoiler[SKull Knight did play a minor in the second eclipse also.]
