My name is Arkard... and I used to be a Manga-holic.
I hit it off hard. When I started getting seriously into the manga hobby I was already collecting 3 series at a time. Before I knew it, I was picking up virtually every title that hit the shelves in my town. I couldnt bring myself to read my older comic books anymore too, they seemed so dull and lifeless compared to my, then, ever growing manga collection. The stories were much more appealing, the art was superior, well you know how it goes. Before I knew it I was spending all my money on manga and selling old comic books to get more cash for my collection. And the first trip to Japan over 3 years ago didn't help either, picked up about 60 volumes right there on the SPOT. But I can say I am safely over that period in my life. I now enjoy American comic books, even rekindled with some great titles thanks to genius writers. Like, I got my love for Batman back thanks to The Killing Joke. I now am careful with my money, but my collection did not shrink and stands proud at 265 volumes to this day. And it does get bigger. It only takes a little more time now. That means I got more selective with my buyings. Manga is great, but like you said, its money consuming, and I believe that most of the All The Manga Out There are not worthy of buying. You need to rumage through alot of crap to get to the gold. |

manga isn't good for trying to find the right one, even one little book can make your pankaccount sick.if your a student i mean. learning is also expensive etc. if you start manga you have to decide what hobby is the most important...luckily my account isn't so empty right now...

Ahh, good to see someone with the same kind of problem as me. If I see an interesting manga, I'll buy into it, which hurts my credit card a lot. I'm only twenty, but I've read so many manga that I've lost count. Heck, I almost blew the bank on my trip to Japan in June because I spent almost 300 dollars on manga alone. Right now I even have around twenty different series of manga. Though it's gaming I'm really into. Hence, fighterholic.

Well at least you're not wasting it on drugs or DVDs. I think manga is a healthy hobby.

Not necessarily. I buy anime also, which actually hurts me more. And then on top of that I'm in danger of getting thrown out of the house becuase of my not putting in an effort at school. So all that stress has caused me to start smoking. |

Somebody call the WAHmbulance.
I've been into manga for about... 2 years now, I made the crossover from American comics, and after getting bored, and never looked back. As for spending money on manga, yeah, I get money, I go to the internet, or the comic book store. As Sasahara said,"Not buying something you want is like denying your true self." |

Hi, my name is molloaggie. Manga was just some small suggestions from my sister. I trusted her, you know, she's family. I had no idea she just wanted me to share in the cost of her purchasing volume. Yeah, split the series with me - just a couple of books.
She gave me the good stuff first, Fushigi Yugi, volumes 1-3. I found myself reading less of my Bible in the evening because I just wanted to read those same three volume over and over. I veraciously searched online for v. 4, and then realized that I was going to be 30 before they finished the series. The pain of not being able to read Fushigi Yugi drove me to read and invest more money in other series. I needed more and more to satisfy my cravings. But my addiction has cost me more than just money, it has cost me true friends. When I showed my new Chrono Crusade book to my neighbor and told her the synopsis, she told me I was "wack" and wasn't going to let her son come over anymore. *sniff* I didn't know if she was joking or not until the next morning when her son came down for breakfast right on schedule. And my husband gets so mad at me. You know, he comes home from work and there are 15 kids in the tv room watching Angelic Layer. He wants me to kick them all out so he can watch videos of 3yr old motorcycle races, but I just don't have the heart to tell them to leave in the middle of a big battle. Can't he just wait until the end of the episode??? And I thought all the neighborhood kids were my friends but they were just using me. I fed them Angelic Layer, Cardcaptors (TV), Medabots, Yu-gi-oh, Snow Fairy Sugar, Hikaru no Go, and Hare+Guu. They could read Kingdom Hearts, Mink, Saint Tail, Angelic Layer and more. But the second I said no to Inuyasha ("Dangit, I don't care if your parents let you stay up til 1am watching Adult Swim, you're not watching it here!"), they all ran out. *sniff* Who's going to eat all these popsicles I bought now? |

i know also that there's alot of people who use others.you can't avoid them. it's normal behavior. i've suffered many times because of these leatches.(did i write that correctly?)even a releationship with a parent is about using each other.i've tried to minimize the damage they do but i'm just too foolish to do something radicale enough.one of the users was my bigsyster so it's not a big suprize that i'm a little bit twisted. i just can't say no and then i get hurt when they brake their promizes etc.it's best to say right in the beginning that i won't except any of damaging using.sorry for my bad english...it's my third language...

It's okay, really, thanks for consoling me. The truth is I was being satirical. All those events really happened, but they were really funny to me, and not heartbreaking. I know it's hard to understand what's satirical and what's not when it's not your native language. |

Uhm yeah, sorry. Need to work on my creative writing skills, I guess. That was my start some 8 years ago or so. |

Umm, Drugs are baaad, mmmkay? Ah, well it depends on what you're smoking. I don't think cigs'll do you very good, seeing as how they'll f*ck up your lungs, and weed is illegal (but most of my friends do it anyway. I'm a good kid, though, because anime = my anti-drug). Either way, drugs are baaad. Hi, my name's SharinganEyes92. I, too, am a mangaholic. I'm addicted to mangahol! I guess this all really started with Death Note and Naruto. I started reading Death Note based off of the rave reviews it got on ANN. I was captivated with the artwork and the story with the first volume. I'm awaiting the 7th volume, and fighting off those dirty, tempting scans on that DAMN INTERNET!! Then I started with Naruto scans at about the same time because I was bored and didn't feel like studying for finals. I love the next couple arcs, so I keep reading. I'm particularly psyched about the upcoming arc, and chapter 319 recently came out tonight. I'm addicted to the chapters, and every part of them (don't worry about the scans, because I buy the tankoubon of them on a great website). Recently I've been reading Rurouni Kenshin, which has captivated my heart with the stunning artwork, and the great plot and action. The Kyoto arc is badass, and I'm at the part where spoiler[Kenshin is leaving Aoi-ya with Saito and Sanosuke to go find Shishio]. I've collected 15 volumes of it, and I plan to collect all the way to the end of the Kyoto arc (does anyone know which volume it ends at?). But now, I read scattered volumes of Bleach, Inuyasha, and now I'm beginning Fullmetal Alchemist. All of this manga is getting in the way of my AP Bio work which I should be doing over the summer, but screw that! Manga is GOD compared to the hood-rats known as AP Bio! |

It's just cigarettes.
My thing is I just can't help buying a series that looks interesting by way of the cover, and if it really kicks ass, then I'll buy the entire series. And some of those Japanese magazines are like previewing the manga I would want to get. I got three Japanese magazines the other day, and I already want to buy about 15 series already. |
