Here's my list.
Top 10 Anime:
1. Kimi ga Nozomu Eien-Greatest Romance anime. It seems like it will be a typical happy lovey-dovey anime, but then it takes a very sudden serious turn. All the characters are great, deep, and interesting. Finally, a main character who would react closely to how I would react. The only downside to this anime is it's too short. But I guess that isn't so bad because it is tough to get through most of the episodes because it's so heartbreaking. Also, I would have preferred the ending to have been a lil bit different. I won't mention how because I'd be spoiling it. But the ending is still great.
2. School Rumble-funniest anime. Yeah, I love the perverted comedy animes like FLCL or Golden Boy too, but School Rumble proves that you don't need to fill the show with those kinds of jokes to be funny. The cast is great and well rounded. The downside would be the ending of season 1, but they came back strong for season 2 so all is forgiven.
3. Cowboy Bebop-the cool one. Just a bunch of weirdos catching outlaws. Yet, it's so addicting. I liked how the main story didn't effect characters lives significantly. Sure, it crept up on them at times but that didn't change the way they lived. So, all the episodes did not seem like fillers. Every episode was unique and different. I loved the jazzy, laid back style of this anime. Definitely a contender for best anime ever made. I guess the downside would be Cartoon Network overplaying it. There is a bit of truth to "too much of a good thing".
4. Ghost in the Shell-the tactical anime. Near futuristic world where prosthetics and cyborgs are the norm. Got to love the surgical strikes of section 9. Hit them fast and hit them hard. As an engineer, I love all the technological stuff. Most of the technology shown is entirely plausible and not just made up to fit in. The show does stimulate you intellectualy in the first season, but not as much in the second. I felt that they were rushing through plots and conversations quickly so you wouldn't catch them just spewing nonsense. The first season was extremely good, but the second was kind of a mess but still enjoyable.
5. Samurai Champloo-the unmerciful anime. Very similar to cowboy bebop but set in ancient japan with a hip hop tone.
6. Nana-the chick with problems anime. I haven't seen most of this anime yet, but through the first 10 episodes, it deserves to be in my top 10 already. The story already has me hooked. It exciting to see how everyone's relationships will end up. The music associated with this anime is very good as well. No complaints really since I haven't the entire thing yet.
7. Shuffle-best harem anime. I have to give the nod to Shuffle. Honestly, most of everything in this area is average. Shuffle does a great job of breaking things up in this usually stale genre. The main guy is not a total wimp like in Love Hina. The girls are hot and not annoying which is definitely a plus. The last few episodes were extremely disappointing because it feels like threw in something out of the blue.
8. Peach Girl-best shoujo anime. I'm pretty ashamed to say I liked this one seeing it's mostly aimed for girls. But it's a great change not having to watch an idiotic dude choose between multiple girls emphasis on the idiotic part. This anime is very much a drama and keeps throwing something unexpected at you. You will pick sides when watching this and it's very agonizing to watch your fav. dude go through problems when the other is having a great time with the main female character. But in the end, my favorite guy won the girl so this anime great to me. so the journey traveled to get to that place was worth it in the end, to me atleast. Of course, if he hadn't have gotten together with her in the end, I would definitely have put this anime in the garbage pile. So, there is a very thin line between love and hate!
9. Tenjou Tenge-best fighting anime. 2 fighters training the bodies to the max to become the best. The supporting cast is awesome and it's great to see such a diverse pool of styles and backgrounds. The atagonists are deep and complex. They worked very hard to get where they are. What can I say, they are truly boss in every sense. This anime does seem horribly jumbled. It goes back and forth from present and past for episodes at a time. Making u kinda wishing they would have just made 2 separate seasons or a prequel. I don't know if this anime is completed, but u really can't call that an ending. None of their problems has been resolved, so I hope that isn't the end of such a great anime.
10. Utawarerumono-best balanced anime. This one rounds out my top 10. To be honest, it does not excel in any category it's just solid all throughout. I like the characters, but I wish they would have went deeper into their backgrounds, relationships, and such. The anime is slow paced, and yet it seems it goes by quickly. i don't know how it can be both at the same time but they made it happen. Either way, it's still a great anime.
most horrible animes (not including crappie kiddy animes like pokemon, one piece, beyblade, yu-gi-oh gx, etc.)
1. Neon Genesis Evangelion- I seriously do not get why some people would call this a masterpiece. All shinji does is literally whine through 25.9 episodes. Only in the last 3 minutes of the series does he actually mature. That's not to say that the ending is good either. It doesn't leave you in awe, more like 'WTF?' why did I waste my time on this. The battles are stupid and really unnecessary. I must admit that I liked asuka and rei, but they never got any redemption and just faded out to obscurity. There is no hidden meaning or depth to this anime. It's just plain horrible.
2. Inuyasha-Commercialism at it's worst. They tacked on over 100 episodes of absolute time killing episodes. Not one was relevant to the main story, yet they were always mentioning completing the jewel. They repeat the themselves over and over. The main character, Inuyasha, is a one trick pony. Kagome is useless and always pining over Inuyasha and her jealousy towards kikyo is annoying. It reminds me of a Lindsay Lohan shirt made towards fez, that said "You were never my boyfriend". Same goes for Kagome and Inuyasha. Inu never made u his girlfriend so shut up about that. I admit that I liked Inuyasha years ago, but they have streched this anime so long that there is no substance left to it.
3. G Gundam-worst stereotyping anime ever. The bigotry in this anime is mindblowing. Instead of developing new characters they just threw together all the stereotypes that they could think of and have them fight. I don't really care for giant robots fighting. I bet you can tell which stereotype won. Avoid this one.
4. Akane Maniax-I wouldn't bother with this one since it's just an ova, but because it's such a fall from grace it had to make the list. It's a spinoff from the best anime ever, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. The setting is in the same place and time as the end of that anime with one of its very well developed characters, so at the very least they could make it average. They went from one pole to the complete opposite. They are trying to combine a serious tone with some goofy nonsense. It really did not work out well. Atleast, the ending had a little bit of redemption. I had high expectations for this one and it did not deliver on any account. It was so painful to watch this anime.
5. Please Twins-a pedophile's type of anime. I'm a guy, and I like...ok, love naked women, but I do have my limits. yeah, that guy may have been 16 but that younger one looked like she was 9 and that's extremely disturbing. The incest thing isn't good either. The story was extremely weak. I hate the extremely needy and clingy type of girl as those two were in this anime. This one was just too taseless.

Heh, I guess I'm the same way (though not because of Sailor Moon - I actually haven't seen it yet). The fact that look at the anime I own and see Ai Yori Aoshi, Angelic Layer, Cardcaptor Sakura (season 1 anyway) and Fruits Basket (and plan on getting KimiNozo the moment it is reasonably priced) is a testiment to that. Good, at least I'm not the only one haha.

-Very good anime
Haibane Renmei
Deep, engaging storyline lying on hide under the skin of a slice of life anime. Loved it.
Mahoutsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (Someday's Dreamers)
Another slice of life anime, very similar in terms of plot structure to Haibane Renmei, though the themes are completely different. Much more light-hearted than Haibane, it has nonetheless a special place in my heart.
ARIA the animation
Did I say already that I love slice of life anime? Seriously, how can you enjoy 13 episodes of nothing happening? And, however, I certainly did. To this day, I still don't know why.
Love Hina
My introduction to harem comedies, and the one that set a stereotype for all of them that came after it. I enjoyed the manga much more, anyway.
Madlax
They say Noir is better, but I haven't seen it yet. I liked this quite a lot, though I usually have mixed feelings about Bee Train stuff.
Excellent Anime
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu
The most original romance comedy ever made! Best animation ever made, originality sweating from each and every one of the 13 episodes, and a narrative that left my mouth wide open.
Cowboy Bebop
Best directed series of all time, in my opinion. With that, and Yoko Kanno at her best, how can you take this place from it?
Arjuna
A priceless, diminute jewel in my opinion, wonderful storytelling, excelling direction, beautiful designs, and a really compelling story, I loved it. McDonald's, you got pwnd.
Masterpiece
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG
Marvelous from all points of view, I'm a GITS enthusiast, and I think this is the best series ever done about the theme. Beneath its dark story lies a deep sci-fi philosophical analisys of society and the future, as well as a never-seen-before scope on revolutions and the figure of the hero. Top-notch series.
The best of all time
Neon Genesis: Evangelion
My introduction to serious anime, it has left a mark so deep on my heart that I can't leave it out of this throne. Many people hate it, many people love it, I just happen to have the fondest memories of it and I treasure them with all my might.
I don't really have in mind any anime I hated, simply because, if I hated it, I tend to forget it, or drop it middleways so an analysis isn't really valid.

That's bad, really bad, because I forgot to name one of my top favorite anime >.<
Number 6) School Rumble
It takes all the clichées and packs them into new more funny scenes. The humor is probably the main source of entertainment for this anime. The characters all look unique and so do their personalities. A refreshing idea of an anime: School Rumble! ^^
Now for the worst anime... Actually I don't have watched that many, so I don't really have a clue. But I can already name one:
1) Wedding Peach
Probably the dumbest and most clichée packed anime which is also a total ripoff of Sailor Moon. (which bothers me the most)
The henshin sequences aren't nearly that good as the ones from Sailor Moon. I like the different opening snngs, but that's all. There's nothing that appeals to me. Even the relationship between Momoko and (what's his name?) are similar to Usagi and Mamoru's relationship. And the worst: You thought that Sailor Moon was corny near the end? What about the "looooove is gooood" message? It's creepier in Wedding Peach, I can assure you. THe world's not about fluff and sugar, honey!
2) Tenchi Muyo!
It's good animation and the voices mostly fit their characters. BUT: The show is boring me to death! So does the manga! I admit I don't really like Sci-Fi, but in TM's case I thought I would give it a shot. The humor is okay and Ryu-Ooki is really cute. But it bores me too much. There's nothing interesting to watch except the fluent animation.
3) Meine Liebe
It really has one of the most beautiful animations and art I've ever seen. Everything and everyone moves so fluently, it's pleasing to the eye *__*
You want to know what's wrong? It's bothering me that the seiyuu don't put ANY emotion in their voices. The only time I really would prefer a DUB over a SUB! It's horrible how they "act". And it's a really boring show for that matter. There's the first volume with only a SINGLE episode, so I can't say much about this one. But I definately don't want to buy the next DVD for the same price, even if it contains 4 episodes.
I'm done ^^°

I couldn't put these in order, but my favorites are:
Neon Genesis Evangelion + End of Evangelion - I avoided this for a long time because I thought mechas would be lame (I still think so, by and large), but holy crap what a mind trip. After half the episodes I thought "eh, pretty good I guess" but then things got really interesting (although I didn't like 25-26). Also, the very last scene of EoE is awesome. I understand much of the criticism, but don't care.
Haibane Renmei - Really like the calmness and lack of insane robots and fanservice. The ending is interesting and leaves some room for interpretation, such as what the characters actually are. Nice animation style, too. Murakami's "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" is the basis for the setting and is worth reading for another angle on this idea.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - Just saw this recently after hearing all the hype, and thought it lived up to it. Good humor and sarcasm, interesting plot, great characters, and a sense of "cool" that a lot of shows simply don't have. Really energetic in a smart way.
Cowboy Bebop/Samurai Champloo - Lumped together because I think they're fairly similar. Bebop got me started on anime, although I like it less nowadays after seeing more shows for comparison. Champloo is actually more fun to watch in terms of characters, humor, and setting imo, but both are solid series and good animes to recommend for people.
Rozen Maiden - Not as "good" as these other favorites by a long shot, but I really like this for some reason. The kid, his sister, and their drama is annoying, but the dolls make up for it. Great character designs for Shinku, Suiseseki, Suigintou, and Barasuisho especially. Love the soundtrack and OP/ED (especially Traumend). Kind of a guilty pleasure show, haha. We need another season!
Other series I've started that seem promising so far:
Monster - cool premise, good realism, getting a little slow though with side character episodes, but still great
Gankutsuou - cool style, great story so far
Eureka Seven - skeptical of surfing mechas at first, but great characters and style
Mushishi - nice and calm, watch an ep here and there to relax
Scrapped Princess - like the premise and setting, seems a little like Escaflowne but with modern character designs maybe
I haven't watched enough crappy anime (why bother?) to have a "Most Hated" list or anything, so here are a few that didn't do much for me even though they're generally well-regarded:
Serial Experiments Lain/Texhnolyze - Both sounded interesting, but not so much. Lain is too boring and shallow -- imo, there's no payoff or worthwhile apsect to care about. I really wanted to like this, but ugh. Texhnolyze had about 2 minutes of interesting content spread across 24 episodes or whatever. I hated all the characters, the story had no point, and the setting was abrasive and unappealing.
Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2 - Aside from nice scenery here and there (like the river montage in the middle of GitS), I don't like the sci-fi mixed with pseudo-philosophy. The nudity made it even harder to take seriously. Just not my type of movie, I guess.
Mononoke, Nausicaa, Spirited Away - These are all decent movies, but they kind of run together to me. It's a nice story repeated over and over with different characters and settings, kind of like Disney movies. I'm totally in ageement with people who like them ok, but not with those who call Miyazaki the biggest genious ever or the savior of animation.
Cat Soup, Voices of a Distant Star - Totally different, but both short animes which is why I list them together. Cat Soup was weird just for the sake of being random, so I won't bother to watch it again. Distant Star was too whiny and repetitive, and I thought the space fighting was out of place. Slowest 20 minutes of my life.
Elfen Lied (added w/ edit) - Almost forgot about this one. I actually had a lot of fun watching it, but in a guilty pleasure "haha this is stupid but I can't look away" sense. Over-the-top bursts of violence, random nudity, silly melodrama (every character has a tragic past boo hoo). It's always fun to watch naked lolis ripping each other's arms off with invisible tentacles, but I'm embarassed to hear that this is regarded as a powerful storyline or all-around great show.
Anyway, I haven't seen a ton of anime since most of it doesn't appeal to me, but there's my list.

7 FAVORITE SERIES:
(i don't have 10, i really only have 7...)
1. EVANGELION
Its a masterpiece of art, storytelling, drama, psychology, and the human mind. It took my breath away when i first saw it. i consider it the best 'thing' i have ever watched or seen. EVER.
2. TENCHI MUYO
Even though i started watching it edited on Toonami in 99', it was truly magical. My first taste of anime fandom...i became OBSESSED with everything about thsi show. It was my gateway anime. I knew everything there was to know about it, and still do. I watch it sometimes for old times sake, and i stil think it is the best harem anime.
3. GOLDEN BOY
I used to see trailers for this on th VHS tapes of Evangelion, wondering what the hell it was about. I finally saw it almost a year ago, and it was great. Funniest anime ever, some of the best animation for its time, and some of my favorite character designs. This show is drop dead hilarious. There is no other anime like it. The dub is amazing, the humour isn't canned and of course some of the best fan service EVER....
4. VAMPIRE PRINCESS MIYU
A great drama action series that i fell in love with. The characters are great, and every episode is a new mystery. The aura of this show till the end is purely psychologically thrilling.
5. FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST
Best new anime i've seen in years. Coming from a fan of old school shows, this one really took me by suprise. It has some small issues in some episodes, but it really captivates when it needs to. A real classic.
6. NADESICO
GREATEST MECHA ANIME!!!It came out about a year after Eva, so everyone was still getting over the darkest, most influential anime, and this show just made everyone laugh again. Great animation, mecha action and creative spoofs and humor. I'm watching this one again right now...
7. GUNDAM 0083
My favorite Gundam. Its perfect, good plot, not too cheesy or serious about itself, great aniamtion and just long enough to keep from being boring.
5 WORST ANIME SERIES:
haven't spent too much time thinking about this one but..
1. MY-HIME
Saw the first episode....its just bad....animation is crap, humour is canned crap and the story is SOOOO cliche...
2. ONE PIECE
do i really have to explain this one?
3. ZATCH BELL
........
4. NARUTO
just plain boring. The dub is also terrible.
5. TRIGUN
SO OVERRATED. I can't even remember anything that happened when i watched this show...Kuro Neko is awesome though...

I'm really beginning to get fed up with people who think having to explain their choices applies only to favourites and not equally to least favourites.
animeaddict92 wrote: | 1. MY-HIME

Well, in Mai-HiME's defense, that's kind of the idea. The first half of the series is intended to be a tongue-in-cheek rib on the whole moe thing in anime, before it takes off on its own serious story later on. It's using clichés to more or less poke fun.
Also, you say Mai-HiME has bad animation, but it's really no worse than the animation of many series you listed as favourites (Fullmetal Alchemist, Evangelion, Tenchi Muyo!'s TV incarnations) once you actually look at it more closely.
animeaddict92 wrote: | 2. ONE PIECE

Uh, yes? It's in the frickin' RULES, after all!
animeaddict92 wrote: | 3. ZATCH BELL

And what on Earth led you to think this was acceptable?
animeaddict92 wrote: | 4. NARUTO

So...how is it "boring?" You've still given us absolutely nothing in the way of valid reasons.
animeaddict92 wrote: | 5. TRIGUN

Think harder. You're not getting away with posting cheap answers, and "oh I can't remember!" is no excuse.

I noticed a lot of fickleness among others lists. People seem to go for what's on, rather than the classics that originaly brought them to anime in the first place. With the exception of maybe one anime, most of mine come from the nineties.
10. Grave of Fireflies: Still as heartbreaking a story as it was the first time I saw it. Seeing the other side of the story is a rather shocking change, considering what we as Americans have gotten used to seeing, i.e. Saving Private Ryan.
9. Vampire Hunter D: One of the first I ever saw, and still somehow one of all-timers, even after ten years (since I first saw it). Now, the voice-acting is nothing shory of terrible, and the animation barely measures up to a modern Disney film, but the intro to D is as priceless an intro as I've ever seen.
8. Neon Genesis Evangelion: This is the anime that showed me that Gundam sucks (with the exception of Wing). The biblical symbolism, as well as the angst-driven characters really make this a dramatic and intelligent anime to watch. I even liked the last two episodes.
7. Ghost in the Shell: Speaking of intelligent, this is probably the most mind numbing anime ever created. I had to watch it somewhere near four times to fully comprehend what the characters were talking about. But still, for action, animation quality, and character, this movie (I'm talking of the original movie) has everything.
6. Ninja Scroll: This is the first anime I ever bought on my own, and I still feel that I got away with buying porn. This anime gave me nightmares (I was thirteen) but also helped me rediscover my joy for anime, as I got it a couple years after Sci-Fi Channel stopped showing anime on Saturday mornings.
5. Cowboy Bebop: The music... No anime has ever achieved what Cowboy Bebop did with its music. Every character was defined by a theme (Ed's made you laugh, Spike's made you brood). And though the actual story was a little sparse, it was more than enough to keep me entertained through multiple viewings. Oddly enough, this is the only anime on my list I've yet to purcahse.
4. Princess Mononoke: I went a video store, asked if they had any Japanese animation, and got a big ??? in response. But after looking myself, I found this movie and fell in love the moment I saw the cover. As Miyazaki's one and only adult piece, it still also contained a lot of the same elements that his more light-hearted efforts did, such as the lack of a truly evil force.
3. Spirited Away:When this won the Oscar, I nearly cried. "Finally," I thought, "people will see what anime is about." Subsequently, Spirited Away seems to be forgotten by most people because of the influx of Ghibli films. But I'm still moved by Chihiro's adventure from a whiny young-girl to a head-strong, independent fighter. Plus, the world of Spirited Away is so heavily steeped in myth that I couldn't help but be sucked in. You see, I love mythology.
2. Akira: For the longest time, this was my all-time favorite anime. It was one of the first I ever saw, and somehow stuck with me throughout the years until it was re-released with a better dub and sound quality years after its original release. This anime defines "start with a bang." And, the psychological story, one that even screws with the viewer, was a pleasure to witness. I bet most people still think that Kaneda and Tetsuo are the main characters. Well, think again. Akira is both the protagonist, as he started all the pyschic crap, and he is the hero, as he finally puts an end to the threat that is Tetsuo. Kaneda is merely the viewpoint character. Brilliant.
1. And the exception to my first paragraph is.... Fullmetal Alchemist: For some reason, I lose interest with overly long anime. But Fullmetal Alchemist continued to get better and better. I laughed, I cried; I sat forward in anticipation, I fell back in surprise. Generally, I just enjoy everything about FMA, from the music, to the animation, to the story, to the characters. No anime has ever impacted me as much as this one did.
Least favorite:
1. Kai Doh Maru: Wow, neat animation. No story at all. Never before have I been so duped. Thinking, "Hey, if it's made by Production I.G. it has to be good." Wrong, wrong, wrong. Damn you, now I don't trust Production I.G. anymore.
2. M.D. Geist: I spent six dollars on the Director's Cut containing both episodes. Wishing now I had it back. The animations--poopy. The story--even poopier. And the director is probably the worst ever in anime history. Why he keeps getting gigs I'll never know. Damn you Koichi Ohata. I want my six bucks back so I can go and do something better with my time, like start a bad habit.
3. Sin: This was the movie that made me think "Americans have to stay away from anime. They always mess it up anyway." Sin was a turd, plain and simple. Based off a video game I ain't ever heard of (yes, that's bad English), with characters picked out of the bottom of the recycling bin, and with 3D visuals as unconvincing as they come, Sin had absolutely no legs to stand on. Except, of course, for the brief fan-service moments, which I normally disagree with anyways.
4. Genocyber: This would have been good, if the episodes connected a little better. But, of course, with Koichi Ohata at the helm this anime was doomed from the start. It was painfully difficult to grasp what exactly was going on, as it jumped about so much in the time line, until finally, abruptly, ending without so much as a goodbye.
5. Tenjho Tenge: Fan-service anime suck, but I bought this because I had heard the manga was something special indeed, with a lot of controversy behind it. What this anime has is a bunch of rehashed anime characters with Barbie-doll boobs (all of women of this anime have the same size boobs--obscenely large). It would have worked if the action was fleshed out and the anime was the same as the manga, controversy-wise. Sad thing is, I bought the entire series (the last is on the way as of the time of this writing). Guess I'm a sucker for torture.

well you gotta remember that this is a "Favourite anime" list thread, so what people like is purely a matter of opinion and some people just don't enjoy what others would consider "classics". Oh and "Saving Private Ryan" was the Allies vs the Germans, not the Japanese
Note: I should have included Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust in my list...

1. Honey & Clover - My absolute favorite anime of all time. It is an amazing anime about college love life with some halarious scenes. The way that the director made scenes change from comedy to seriousness is finominall. And Morita-san is probobly the funniest character ever!
2. Gankutsuou It's helpful to read the novel before watching the anime. It was really fun comparing and contrasting. This anime was amazing because the director uniquely changed the setting from an older time (in the novel) to a high tech futrustic one, and how the plot twists are almost never ending and are perfectly designed.
3. Cowboy Bebop The first 20-ish episodes were ok. It was episodic which i didn't like. It was funny to see Spike, Jet and Faye kick major ass, capture the criminal, but then somehow lose all the money they made. The only reason why this was my 3rd favorite anime is because of the last couple of episode when Spike, Julia and Vicious die. I loved Spike's death. He went out with a "bang" Plus looking at Spike's eyes near the end was pretty symbolic (you are gonna have to figure out what I'm talking about).
Tied for 4. Martian Successor: Nadessico, The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzimya
MSN - My first anime (other than DBZ) so I'm pretty biased towards it. I truly loved it; the romance and the fighting. Definetly not your average mecha anime.
Meloncholy - The most unique comedy anime I have ever seen. Many parts were halarious, especially if you could sort of put 2 and 2 together and figure out Koizumi was gay -_-" (which they never actually say, but it was pretty obvious in my point of view). This show really needs a sequel!!!
Tie for 5tj. FLCL and Princess Mononoke
FLCL -The second most unique comedy anime I have ever seen. It was amazing; even the romance which I heard wasn't too great. It was really funny especially that guy with the fuzzy eyebrows and the random south park scene. It could use a sequel but it was fine where it was left. I guess it's a"don't try to fix something if it is not broken" type of thing. This was also the longest 6 episodes of anything I have ever watched (felt like 26). Plus I still listen to The Pillows (who made the OST).
Princess Mononoke - This movie really got to the point pretty fast. Ashitaki leaves his villiage forever to find a cure for a curse. The character development was the main part of this movie (for me). In a mear 133 minutes, Miyazaki managed to develop characters that would take most of a 26 ep anime to develop. Also the romance was unlike anything I have ever watched. The resolution was disopointing but it was to show that the war against Man and Nature would never end.
Tie for 6th. Kimi Ga Nom...w/e and Samurai Champloo
KGNE - I can't really say much without spoiling it, but it was the saddest anime I have ever seen, and I bursted into tears in many parts (BTW I am a guy even though that sounded like a girl -_-")
Samurai Champloo- What the hell? Samurais. Hip Hop. HUH? The director took a big risk with this one, and it came out really good. A lot like Cowboy Bebop (because they were made by the same people) and Mugen and Spike look alike (is it just me?). This show is basically like a giant spoof on samurai animes, but it gets serious near the end. It was fun watching Jin and Mugen kick ass, and each of their personal side stories were set up perfectly. An amazing anime all around.
7. FMP Second Raid The final part of the Full Metal Panic series. The fight scenes and animation were exceptional. The fact that Gauron was shocked me. How many things could he survive (even though he died shortly after). I loved how in the end neither of them admitted that they loved each other yet you could still tell, and they both new it. All in all the whole FMP series was one of the best anime [series] I have watched.
8. Shakugan no Shana Ugh Shana was really flat...but besides that. Another amazing fighting anime (I think the term "amazing anime" is becoming cliche in my list -_-") It was kind of disturbing to learn about to learn about the horrifying truth to the world, about torches and whatnot (which I won't explain). It was also pretty funny to watch Shana adapt to normal life. There are a couple of major plot twists that are perfectly in place, and the ending leaves a perfect place for a sequel, which is coming out (a movie). Can't wait for it!
9. Azumanga Daioh It's pretty odd how I could like an anime that has no point to it, just pure comedy and school life. No romance, no plot whatsoever. I just found myself liking this anime. If I get yelled at by like the guy 2 posts above me, I don't care. I can't understand why I liked this anime. Well I guess it's because even though in the end they are all going to college they'll still be together. But that's corny. THIS ANIME WAS AMAZING (so cliche) EVEN THOUGH I CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY!!!
Tied for 10th. Mai-Hime and S-CRY-ED
Mai Hime - High school life with supernatural twists. To animeaddict- The first episode may seem cliche, but keep watching. The first half is mainly character development, but the anime goes from cliche, to not-cliche (wow). The romance is ok, but I watched for the fight scenes and suspence. The only downfall was the ending, which was very dissopointing.
SCRYED - My second anime. Like Mai Hime it seemed a little cliche, but it was great all in all. Also like Mai-Hime, I watched for the fight scenes since the romance was pretty bad except when Sharice sacrifices her life. The rivelry between Kazuma and Ryuho is crazy. They are pretty evenly matched throught the story, and it stays that way. There is a huge plot twist and the story changes dramatically after the middle. Also Straight Cougar is my second favorite character from anime and his halariousness and seriousness (which was rare) really contributed to the show.
I'll state my reasons later for this list because I do not have a lot of time for now.
1. SD Gundum Force
2. Inuyasha
3. DB
4. DBGT
5. Advent Children
1) Monster has to be in my top 3 since it is the only anime I've watched nonstop without having to take breaks except for eating and sleeping. The story is incredible as it hooks you and keeps you guessing through out the show. Johan is just plain scary. I loved how they made Johan so complex, not just some evil villain trying to rule the world or something. All of the characters have a purpose and weren't added just to be funny or cute. The ending was very well done as it asks the question who the real monster is and lets you decide what happened to Johan.
2) Fruits Basket- I love this anime because for me it has the most memorable and touching scenes in any anime. I find my self going back just to watch 6 scenes. 1) When Kyo says it's alright to show your true side to Tohru. 2) Hatori’s past. 3)Yuki and Kyo running home on New Years to find Tohru in tears. 4) Momiji's secret wish 5)Kisa story 6)Kyo hugging Tohru. These are just the scenes/episodes that come to mind when I think about this anime. Many people say the ending was crap, but you have to understand that they are trying to stick with the manga and in my opinion I thought they did it pretty well considering what they had to work with.
3) Hunter X Hunter- One of the best Shounen out there so far. This anime has no fillers and doesn’t drag on at all. I love how the main character isn’t like some kind of god who when you get him mad, it’s all over. I also liked it how it didn’t just revolve around Gon as you get see the Spider Gang fights and also the Zaoldyeck fight in the end, which was in my opinion the coolest fight scene (a little short but still good). Many probably say that the ending wasn’t satisfying since Gon didn’t find his dad or that the enemies were still alive, but I thought it was good. For me I think it more enjoyable when not everything is solved or that there is a happy ending.
4) Cowboy Bebop- Right from the start the show grabs your attention with the “Tank!” song by the Seatbeats and gives you a sad feeling as the show ends with “The Real Folk Blues”. The characters are all very different and unique in their own ways. You have Spike the cool/relaxed type, Faye the attractive/badass type, Jet the responsible/mechanic, Ed the weird/computer hacker, and Ein the cute/smart one. Just seeing them all interact with each other is fun by itself. Many complain that there is only about 8-9 episodes of story and the rest are fillers, but I say as long as the fillers are good then I’m fine with it. I’m a big Simpson’s fan; I’ve watched them since I was little and still do from time to time. I find the Simpson very enjoyable even though there is no story. The last episode for me was the most memorable part of the show.
5) Rurouni Kenshin Trust and Betrayal OVA and series- The OVA was very well done with the fight scenes, music, and drawing. My friend complained about how they used too much blood, but I say it was to show how real it was. The only problem I had was that I watched the OVA first so when I got to the series Kenshin voice sounded very childish and silly. It took me a while to get use to. I loved how he used a double edge sword so he wouldn’t kill anyone, reminded me a lot of Vash from Trigun. I loved the relationship and interaction with all of the other characters.
6) FLCL-If I were to buy a soundtrack from any anime it would be hands down this one. Every song they played in the show I really enjoyed. This is one of those anime where you just watch and don’t ask questions. Lots of crazy and random things happen, but I enjoy each and every one of them. This anime doesn’t take long to get into as it gets right to the point with just 6 episodes.
7) Fullmetal Alchemist-Al and Ed are probably the best duo in any anime. They are just so fun to watch. The action and animation are just incredible. I loved the theory of equivalent trade idea, very clever in my opinion. Not to mention the show had very good opening/ending songs. Most anime I just skip the opening/ending and move on to the next episode, but for this anime I usually end up watch it all. I also love all the supporting characters in this anime Hughes, Roy, Winry, Riza, etc. I thought the villains and ending could have been a little better, but none the least I loved it.
8) The Twelve Kingdoms- This is one of the best epic/fantasy/adventure anime ever. I admit there is a lot of terms that might get you confused or lost, but I grantee that once you understand it you’ll like it. It takes a genius to come up with what they did. Everything was well thought up from the world to the different creatures, monsters, countries, leaders, rules, music and etc. I thought the ending wasn’t so good, but compared to most anime I will let it go.
9) Hajime no Ippo-A Boxing anime. This anime is very well done as it makes you feel like you’re really there watching. Unlike most fighting anime, this one shows you a lot of the opponent’s story/side. Ippo is one of those characters that you can’t help, but root for, he’s just so respectful.
10) Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni- While the anime is still going on I am hooked with this anime and I eagerly wait each week for the new episode.
For my bottom 5 rather then jumping on the bandwagon and going with Pokemon, Yugioh, Dragon Ball Z, etc. I’m going to pick ones that I thought had potential but didn’t meet my expectations.
1) Gungrave. I thought this anime was going be another random shooting anime, but I was completely wrong. This anime started out so good that I was ready to put it on my top 20. I was so upset once Harry shot and killed his best friend Brandon Heat, who stood up for him even when Big Daddy said he didn’t trust Harry. Brandon Heat knew Harry might betray the family, but rather than trying to stop him or tell someone like Big Daddy, he keeps quiet and gets himself killed. By the time he comes back all of the people he loves and respect are either dead or think he's a traitor.
2) Utawarerumono. I really dislike the way Hakuoro looks and the weapon he uses. It seemed to me they put all their efforts into the girls since they all look so nice and cute. Even characters you just see for 1-2 episode are better drawn then him. For me through out the series I had a hard time taking Hakuoro seriously. If they didn’t add new crews/members like Benaoui, Kurou, Karura and my personal favorite Touka, I probably would have stopped watching. The action was good, but when they tried to add cute/sad moments I found a lot of them pretty cheesy.
3) Final Fantasy Advent Children- The action, music and animation were really good. As for characters the only two characters that got to shine were Cloud and Tifa. It seems that everyone else was there just for fun. The story was average for me, but I really thought they could have done better. If you’re a Final Fantasy fan or just like good action then I recommend you watch this.
4) Elfen Lied- Everyone said they felt bad for Lucy, but just because she was picked on when she was little, does it give her the right to kill Kouta’s cousin or other people? I think the first scene she probably made hundreds of kids lose their parents, you say they deserve it because they kept her in there, but here is another question, would you want someone who could kill hundreds of people in seconds walking around on the streets? If I was in her spot I'd probably feel the same way wanting to be free and all, but to kill all those people without a single regret is something I wouldn't be able to do.
5) Neon Genesis Evangelion-This anime is pretty good. How the anime was able to get you into the characters head was just incredible. I was able to get through it all pretty easily, but for me this was like a once in a life time thing. For me NGE is like a new toy that you get. You play with it a lot and it gives you a lot of fun, but after that you put it away and never touch it again. You will still remember how much fun it was when you played it, but it’s just something that you don’t plan on playing ever again.

well you gotta remember that this is a "Favourite anime" list thread, so what people like is purely a matter of opinion and some people just don't enjoy what others would consider "classics". Oh and "Saving Private Ryan" was the Allies vs the Germans, not the Japanese
Note: I should have included Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust in my list...
What I was trying to say with my analogy was that we only see the American side of the war, no matter who we're fighting.

People, honestly! Did I not, barely ten posts up, tell you all that I'm getting fed up with this crap? You have to explain your choices for least favourite the same as you do for your favourites. This is getting incredibly irritating.
