On IO, a few nights ago, I noticed that Encore Action (channel 351) has been having something called "Animidnight". Every night at 12 AM, they air an anime. I was wondering: how many of you out there know about it and watch it? How long has Animidnight been going on? What are some of the shows they've shown? Not to mention, I was thinking we can briefly discuss the different animes they airred on it, for those who watch Animidnight.

Anyway, 2 days ago, I saw Kai Doh Maru there and last night I saw Gundress. Tonight, they're supposed to air Weathering Continent.

I found Kai Doh Maru very interesting, in style (although, I didn't how pale everything was because it made things confusing and looked kind of ugly), but, overall, it sucked. It was too short. It was confusing. There were too many names given at a fast rate so it was hard to remember. The plot was confusing, as a matter of fact, I'm not even so sure what the exact plot was. Basically, it was too short for what they wanted to do with it. It felt kind of rushed. There was a lot of meaningless talking (because the talking didn't really contribute to character development or anything). The fight scenes were...interesting. I'd say this had potential. It could've been good if everything wasn't so pale, if it was longer, if there were more fight scenes, if it was slower-paced and gave more time to introduce new characters, and if the talking actually served a purpose (such as character development or explaining what was going on)

I didn't get to see all of Gundress. I saw the last two-thirds or so of the movie. I thought it was pretty good. I mean, I wish I had seen it from the beginning to get a better understanding of what was going on and what the plot was (not to mention, all of the character's names and relationships with one another), but it was still pretty good. I mean, it was pretty easy to follow so even though I missed a big chunk of it. I caught on fine. Sure, there was some I didn't get, but I got the vast majority of it. I'm found Gundress pretty entertaining. I mean, it was somehwhat funny and somewhat action-packed. Not to mention, there wasn't a lot of meaningless talking. All of the talking served some point, it helped explain what was going on. Sure, there wasn't a whole hell of a lot of character development and depth, but that's no biggie. It was still a pretty good show.

I just wanted to say, I found it weird (and also interesting) how Encore Action has been airring the most random anime. LOL! I mean, that is a good thing because that'll really show you whats out there. But I mean, I would've expected them to air something more well-known and popular, but, oh well, this is still good.

Oh yes, Encore Action does show some...well "out there" anime. But they have, in the past, shown ok anime like: the patlabor movies, vandread, dead leaves, the NGE movies, and Hellsing (last week I think). For the most part I'm glad to see them playing anime (which they have been doing for a few years now).

P.S. NO, I dont consider Hellsing an ok anime it was one of the better shows they aired. Also caseclosedfan414 you should go to the news archive and look at the TC section of the recent columns (right side of screen) they give you a list of whats showing on various channels for the next week (including Encore Action) Wink

Yeah, I'm glad they air anime, too. Now, I have something other than Adult Swim (which I love) to watch anime on. Thanks for leading me to "The Click", omar235. I never saw that before. That's good, but I noticed they're showing the schedule for what airred over a week ago. Is that what's normally posted there (shows that already airred)? Or do they normally tell you about upcoming shows (but it hasn't been updated, yet)?

I watch it every chance I get as long I'm awake long enough to do so.

I was rather glad that at least one of the cable channels has the kahonees enough to play an abundance of anime outside of just tired out lowly old cartoon network.

Constant repeates of Inuyasha - Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex and GITS 2nd GIG along with one other anime series got super old after a while.

Forget Cartoon Network- I'm sticking with Encore Animidnight from now on. Exclamation

P.S. not to sure on the time its going to be on so it might show at 1:00 AM, if you plan on watching it you should check the tv guide channel. Wink

I've just started taping it to watch when I get home from work now that we're in summer reruns on most channels. So far, it's been hit or miss for me. Nothing that would make my favorite list so far, but I am glad I finally saw Hellsing, which I enjoyed quite a bit. One of the better mindless fun anime I've seen so far. I've always enjoyed vampire movies and series provided they're halfway decent. The atmosphere was good, I liked Seris and Integra, and since I'm lucky enough to have been to the Tower of London on vacation (it happened to be a partially overcast day, which was perfect for reflecting on the history of what happened within it's walls) I got a kick out of recognizing different buildings in the complex in the final scenes and often being able to figure out where the characters were inside. Macross Plus was pretty good too, although some of the storyline got a bit disturbing. I also liked Weathering Continent. Not a masterpiece, but a nice little short story where the protagonists come out of a sticky situation because they had done the right things. What a concept. Very Happy

Hm, actually, I missed Weathering Continent last night. Damn. LOL! Anyway, they show anime on channel 240? you know something weird? On my IO, I'm missing everything approximately between channels 130 and 300. When I click up to those numbers is skips over them and when I try to go to one of them directly, the box thingy doesn't even recognize the number. When I try to view it through the TV Guide channel, approximately channels 200 through 300 don't even show up. Channels 130-200 do show up, but, even so, I can't go to them. What's up with that? That's weird.

You might want to call (if you haven't already) you local cable company about that because they could be charging you for channels you can't even watch.

Oh, I just asked my Dad about that. Apparently, we don't have IO Platinum or something and that's why. When he upgrades the package, we'll get those channels. Thanks, anyway, omar235.

Hmm, I, too, don't have channel 240 on my IO. Also for the next week, they plan on showing 10 Tokyo Warriors, and then Black Magic M-66, both of which look quite interesting. Thank you for posting this, caseclosedfan414. I knew nothing about this.

Black magic is a decent anime but its too rushed, if they took more time with the story it would have been really good. Also if you go to the Encore action website (seen below) they give a list of what there showing for two months (the month we're on and the next month) http://www.encoretv.com/appmanager/seg/e?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=full_channel_schedule&serviceCode=act1
