so I was curious and wondering what the very last anime releases by ADV, Geneon and Bandai USA were before they went out of business

trouble is, I can't seem to find a timeline of their releases anywhere, every site just lists them alphabetically, not in order of their release

so, does anybody know?

To make this easier to lay out from what I've covered, I'll separate your answers into sections by company:

ADV
A bit misleading to say that they closed down. Section 23/ Sentai is ADV by name as the company gained all the acquired properties, assets and workers that were once under the ADV label, with the ADV name and logo being retired. This news was announced on September 1, 2009. If you're looking for titles under ADV before this news came up, then the last two releases they did were complete sets of Dokkoida and Kannazuki no Miko on August 25 of that year.

Geneon
The company announced their closure towards the end of 2007 and would honor releases up to November 5 of that year. Whatever ANN has listed for Geneon releases after that date were cancelled releases, meaning Geneon's last round of releases should have happened in October. The company's final release were two box sets of Fighting Spirit released the same day on October 30.

Bandai Entertainment
Bandai's final set of new releases took place on February 7, 2012. The releases were Akira; the third and fourth parts of Tales of the Abyss; the second volume of Gundam Unicorn; and Anime Legends sets of Code Geass R2, the second set of Mobile Suit Gundam, both seasons of Gundam 00 and K-ON!.

Depends on what answer you want. If you're asking for the last title they released while still ADV under their partnership with Sentai Filmworks, the last release would be the second set of Princess Resurrection on May 19, 2009. If just under the ADV label, then the final releases of new titles are the second set of Kiba and Indian Summer, both released on March 10, 2009.

I don't know if you want to count them or not, but Geneon had all the work done on Nanoha, Familliar of Zero, and Black Lagoon Second Barrage when they went under. They then had Funimation release for them.

The last release by ADV won't happen until at least September this year - which is when Elfen Lied is being re-released on BD with the ADV logo on the cover.

Strictly speaking ADV never "died." They just became Sentai to get out of some legal trouble.

Wait. They're putting the ADV logo on it? ADV is still an existing licensor that an put their name on things?

Well if we are just talking about sticking logos on things then probably the late 2011 re-release of Elfen Lied on DVD counts too. ADV is on the front and their design for the packaging is credited to ADV in 2008.

Sentai Filmworks came into existence as a licensing entity before ADV went under and ADV used to "distribute" for them. Section 23 is now the distribution company.

ADV's still around to execute their remaining licenses, much like Geneon was or is; they sold what they could and sublicensed the rest to Sentai as far as I can tell(several other companies owned by ADV's important people bought out their other assets, so equating Sentai and ADV is a bit of an oversimplification). They're certainly still extant enough to be involved in lawsuits - they sued over the Evangelion movie rights not too long ago and were sued(along with most of Neo-ADV) by Funimation for the money they owed Sojitz.

Wasn't one of the last things ADV released, wasn't it the manga "Yotsuba&!", if they had gotten a hold of it a lot sooner then I would think it might have a slim chance of still being in business with it being a top seller and all. And Evangelion is being re-released!? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Eva TV is in moratorium until after the last movie is released at least. It's not like there aren't plenty of copies still in circulation however.

ADV Manga was a mess (there was often a wait of months if not years between volumes of their titles), and while I like Yotsuba& there's no way that one title would sort out their debt problems - and they started releasing it well before the collapse, before they even made the fatal deal with Sojitz.
