I agree with Answerman and Justin about how really in this market, there's nothing to loose since there's really no mainstream alternative
One thing the US or western hentai market has going for it is that it can be uncensored. I would imagine FAKKU and/or DMP, Media Blasters, J-List, et al. could also set up a crowdfunding site to bring over uncensored and translated erotic material since Kickstarter and Indiegogo, and basically no US crowdfunder site AFAIK will allow that. |

Hahaha the Game of Thrones carnage! People who've read the novel have been waiting with gnashed teeth for that to hit the TV watchers' faces! Fun spoiler[massacring] some of the main characters! Not something ya see everyday. Anyways, Williams Street is first and foremost about action - not necessarily fighting but a lot of "moving" efforts. And teenage ecchi isn't their kind of humor unless it's satire like Perfect Hair Forever. The Tenchi franchise is kinda the closest they get, but there's enough action. And AS/Toonami doesn't really have to blend with the rest of the brand. They admit they keep anime to give the brand a different edge. They're pretty much going for separate crowds for the comedy and the action. Last edited by enurtsol on Sat Jun 08, 2013 3:24 am; edited 1 time in total |

There is a kickstarter for porn out there. It's called Offbeatr.

One other kind of important factor to consider why it wouldn't be on Toonami or American TV in general--Media Blasters never released it and it was never dubbed. |

Back up a step… I don't follow this comment. What do you mean by "they are not doing business"? Adult Swim is unwilling to talk to Sentai (or just isn't doing so now)? Sentai's unwilling (or unable) to license their shows out for TV? I don't get it. I could swear that at one of the Sentai panels I'd seen this year or last, Sentai said they'd love to have their stuff on Toonami. A link to a source would be awesome, but just clarifying what you mean would do. Thanks. |

If SAO is going to end up on Toonami I don't see the issue with Desert Punk being shown as well except that DPunk is old and was shown on starz/encore. DPunk feels less otaku-centric than SAO, SAO is also kind of awful.

I'm guessing the user-submitted tags have something to do with it. Milk Morinaga did start out in hentai manga. |

WRT Amazon in the US, it's odd because their official policy states that they do not allow "pornography" but allow "unrated erotic videos" (which technically most home videos and all anime are). How are they going to differentiate between a porn comic vs erotic comic? Well, whatever the case, they gave themselves an escape clause: they can remove anything they deem offensive, which has happened already. However, they don't seem to do so proactively, so as long as no one complains, all sorts of erotic items continue to be listed
Amazon JP is however different with a different section of the store dedicated to purely adult items (the recommendations don't cross over), but those are not exportable.
Sweet! Thanks |

A Toonami podcast stated they were told that there were virtually no chance of Sentai shows being placed on the block. For whatever reason, we don't know. ADV back in it's day licensed a lot of shows out to TV, but only a few ended up on Adult Swim or Toonami. Most of their shows went to Showtime and G4/TechTV. I don't really think it's an unwillingness of Sentai to put their shows on TV, as they've recently licensed content out to Neon Alley. They also allegedly pitched shows to Toonami and Adult Swim. I think it's more that the two aren't able to come to mutually agreeable terms. That could change in the future. Even the podcast that reported this said "never say never." |

Sine the column opened up with a question on "hentai" I'll share an article by Mark McLelland I recently found. Good information on the differences between the English and Japanese usages of the term.
A Short History of 'Hentai ' http://intersections.anu.edu.au/issue12/mclelland.html One of the things I find cool about language is the way the meanings of words can dramatically shift when they move between cultures. |

The whole idea for Saturdays was to mix it up and air action series. It's always been like that for Adult Swim aside from series like Milk-chan or Shinchan. Not sure where you've been for the past ten years. Anime isn't as viable as it used to be, and shonen series are the most widely popular in the US and the most easily marketable in terms of broad appeal. Plus Japanese comedy just falls flat with American viewers, and there's no crossover appeal to their regular weekday audience. The audience for Superjail, King of the Hill, or Family Guy isn't going to tune in for Is This a Zombie?. Gotta remember both cultural differences and demographics. I'm sure there are still people under the impression that the Aniplex poll from a few months ago was an official ordeal and are angered that SAO got the ticket instead of Madoka. However do you really think that Madoka would be shown when your primary demo are males 18-30 and in the United States no less? Toonami is an action block, always has been, always will be. |

It doesn't make sense to you because you and other people who've made similar arguments created this misinterpretation that if a network has some programming one night that isn't quite like all the other shows airing the rest of the week, it's automatically bad business regardless of whether you see actual proof of how it has become bad business. And if you tell yourself this enough times, than it somehow becomes truth. And there's just nothing to prove that having aired a few shonen shows is bad business for Adult Swim. Hell, there has never been any proof when Inuyasha first aired. |

Inuyasha was actually pretty popular back in its heyday. The fact that they haven't let its license lapse after all these years is probably a testament to that |
