Hello
I'm really hoping I can have some luck here, as finding anymore information about this supposed sequel is proving a very difficult task. In the 10th Anniversary Edition Ninja Scroll (Jubei Ninpucho) DVD, the director Yoshiaki Kawajiri speaks of the TV Series and also of a sequel to the original movie. He proclaims that he is going to do his best to make the sequel even greater than the original (some feat!). But apart from that, I have no more other information regarding it. Can anyone shed anymore light on the matter? I thought it may be because Yoshiaki Kawajiri is busy directing the Highlander:Vengeance anime, or perhaps he has decided to scrap the sequel? I'm not overly concerned if so, because it's often been proven that sequels fail to live up to their predecessor, but some clarity would be appreciated. Thanks |

Only thing close to a sequel that I know of is Ninja Resurrection, which is actually a spin-off. Heard it was abysmal.

I actually liked Ninja Resurrection, but it wasn't even a spin-off. It was just another violent ninja/samurai anime based on the same (I think) character.
I recall reading about a movie sequel, but it was over a year ago. |

Actually Ninja Resurrection is not connected to the Ninja Scroll franchise at all. It was deceptively marketed in the West to appear as if it was a direct sequel to Ninja Scroll, but it was made by a completely different studio. They took advantage of the fact it had similar aspects, such as a protagonist named Jubei.

Don't watch Ninja Resurrection. It's pretty horrible. Ninja Scroll was a good, solid entertaining movie, but Ninja Resurrection is nothing of the sort.
Sorry to be a dream-wrecker here, but I'm just trying to save your eyes some pain. |

As far as I know, there is no such sequel, or else it would more than likely be in the encyclopedia. I think the encyclopedia has every title that has been announced, even if there is no other information besides it being made.
I liked Ninja Ressurrection, but then again I did see it a long time ago. I think the main reason people hate it so much is because it doesn´t end. Only 2 episodes were made, and it ends right where the demons are ressurrected, which seemed to have promised some great fights after that point which were not delivered. But if you use your imagination, the ending would have more than likely been cliche and it would´ve ended in a final battle where Jubei survived and life goes on. Yet no one talks bad about Bastard!! and the situation is pretty similar. |

While I don't believe there's any details about a sequel to Ninja Scroll, "Ninja Scroll 2" has been listed in the Encyclopedia as currently in pre-production. So, I'd guess that there are plans for a sequel of some sort, which I'd be eager to see whenever it's made.

For those who don't know, the Jubei featured in Ninja Ressurectin is Yagyu Jubei, who actually existed, while the Jubei featured in the Ninja Scroll is Jubei Kibagami, a fictional character.
And as mentioned earlier, the two titles are unrelated, but were marketed in the West as two titles in the same franchise. |

And it's going to kick so much ass...
Which reminds me, I saw the MADHOUSE interview on ON-DEMAND the other week and I remember the rep dude saying that the Highlander movie will be released by september... Are there any other confirmations on this? Because... that's the most concrete stuff I've heard so far. |

Yeah, I'd totally go and watch... but I think it is definately a theatrical release (like most of Kawajiri's stuff)
... I mean, it's not gonna be a direct-to-video thing... like hentai or whatever. Whether or not it actually gets into the nearby theatres is another story though. But hey, we'll find out in September (I'm just gonna assume that this is when it comes out... unless someone has evidence that says otherwise). |
