I need help...

I'm looking for a shojo titile to purchase, and I need suggestions. I talked to a friend fo mine about this and she requested Dramacon. I was thinking I;d read Dramacon, but I want quality shojo.

Can someone help me out with any suggestions?
Any help would be appreciated.

What have you read?

But since I don't know what you're looking for or what you've read may I suggest Fushigi Yugi, Ceres & Alice 19th. All three are by Watase Yuu who, in my opinion, is the best manga-ka around these days.

manga#2300
manga#1795
manga#1539

Enjoy!

And of course there is CLAMP, who while not completely shoujo, at least generally have a fair amount of shoujo elements in their work. Ai Yazawa is a new favourite of mine, with NANA and Paradise Kiss...they have a much more realistic, edgier feel than CLAMP or the wonderful Yuu Watase. Kaori Yuki is good for the more gothic shoujo, with Angel Sanctuary and Godchild (I'm not a fan of the latter though, since it tends to be too episodic for my tastes).

FullMoon wo Sagashite is an excellent shojo titles. The artwork is gorgeous and it has a great story. It is about a young girl with throat cancer who is told she has one year to live by two shinigami (Gods of Death). With their help she is able to achieve her goal of becoming a singer. It's a bit more complicated than that, but thats the basic premise. It is 7 volumes with the last volume coming out in about a month and a half.

Angel Sanctuary is good for a much more mature shojo title (it puts most shonen titles to shame when it comes to violence and gore) as long as you can stomach the the fact that the main character is in love with his sister. I'm really not sure how to summarize even the premise of this title. It is 20 volumes long and volume 14 came out last month.

Hot Gimmick Great shojo series with a good combination of drama and comedy. A recent Right Turn Only column gave a review for the second to last volume. It is 12 volumes long with the last volume coming out soon.

Ceres: Celestial Legend My favorite shoujo manga (though that could change when some of these other series finish) by the famous Yuu Watase. This is easily the best of her works, so don't ignore it just because you don't like some of her other works. I highly recommend this series. It is for mature audiences as it can be quite violent, contains some sex and nudity, and deals with rape (or attempted rape) on several occassions. It is 14 volumes long and all are available.

Red River A good but relatively unknown shoujo manga. It is about a girl named Yuri who is pulled through time and space to the ancient Hittite empire to become a sacrafice for a sorceress's spell. She meets Prince Kail, the target of the Sorceress' spell and their fates become intertwined. I like this series for a number of reasons such as the fact that the main character is far from useless (opposite of Miaka from Fushigi Yuugi) and it deals with ancient international politics and war. It is 28 volumes long and volume 13 just came out or is about to come out.
