Why reboot godzilla? The movies were fine, it seems everyone ran out of ideas by 2013 and can only reboot old films at this point

Because the one directed by Dean Devilin didn't lived up to it's original Japanese counterpart. The 1998 movie was OK, but I didn't like that Godzilla because he doesn't look iconic like the Japanese one.

The movie was still fine imo. It wasn't as broken as lets say: DBZ evolution or Spidey 3

Yeah well, Godzilla 1998 was not good because of the look of Godzilla, the story was OK but I didn't like the design of Godzilla (it was an insult to the original Japanese monster). A lot of Godzilla fans were not happy with the 1998 version because of that. Beside, the Godzilla reboot is closer to it's original Japanese incarnation, that's the way Hollywood is supposed to keep Godzilla close to the original and I bet the people were happy to see the reboot stick close to the Japanese version. Would you prefer a 1998 Godzilla where Godzilla didn't look anything close to the original Japanese monster, or would you prefer a American reboot that stick close to the Japanese incarnation? I don't think Spiderman 3 was a wreck, it was a good movie. But I agree the Hollywood reboot thing is getting ridiculous, like I don't understand why they have to reboot Spiderman? The one with Tobey Mcguire was probably the best Spiderman I've seen, OK well The Amazing Spider-man is good in it's own way but they didn't need to re-boot Spiderman. The Amazing Spider-man could've been Spiderman 4 with Tobey Mcguire and Kirsten Dunst reprising their role.

So that Sony could retain the right for the franchise since they sat on their hands for over 6 years, they were at risk of loosing the rights.

I don't want to go off topic but I still think The Amazing Spiderman could've been Spiderman 4, that's all I have to say. I did read the Amazing Spiderman was going to be Spiderman 4 with Sam Raimi directing again and both Tobey Mcguire and Kirsten Dunst was going to reprise their role. Also The Lizard was going to be the villain in Spiderman 4 which that ended up on The Amazing Spiderman, so yes that movie was going to be Spiderman 4. I wish they didn't reboot it, the first 3 Spiderman movie were great. No need to change the cast, Spiderman 4 would've been a great film to conclude Sam Raimi's Spiderman.
