No new "Star Ocean" doesn't surprise me, 'cause I'm pretty sure the developers said they wanted "Last Hope" to be the last game. Shame there's no new "Valkyrie Profile" in the works, though.

No SaGa, eh...?
Sigh... I've been waiting a new entry in the series for quite awhile. Most we've gotten was the two DS remakes and GREE game, all which have not been localized. I actually imported SaGa 3's remake, however.
I suppose it makes sense if they don't make much money to not produce new material, but still...

They pretty much killed Star Ocean with the third game. Ironically enough, "Last Hope" really was the series' last hope, and at best, all they could do is a prequel.

No new Valkyrie Profile yet? Oh come on, how long does Hrist have to warm the bench to get her own game?
As for the SaGa series, well, I'd love a remake of RS2, but it's not happening.

No Star Ocean is probably for the best given how The Last Hope was like. It was pretty much nothing like what makes Star Ocean Star Ocean and was just a random JRPG. Not terrible, but not really worthy of the name, so if they make more like it there's no point in calling it Star Ocean.
I did enjoy Resonance of Fate though, and wouldn't mind more games like that. It was pretty unique and fun.

last hope is a stain on the Star ocean name but it suprised me that there are no more plans for the star ocean franchise, 3 was preety good so i kind of got my hopes up with last hope the graphics are good but the plot and gameplay not so much.

Agreed. Also that "game engine in-development teaser" footage they put out a couple of years ago looked like it could make a great Star Ocean reboot.

i remember i played the psp port of Valkyrie Profile, and it was a good game although the art design was bad, but it had such a good gameplay, I can't remember if I beat the game though.....
If there were to be a third entry I would hope a new art choice would be better

I agree with you on Star Ocean The Last Hope. It just didn't feel like a Star Ocean game. Not to mention had some of the worst name choices.
Resonance of Fate though, was made by Tri-Ace and produced by Sega. Nothing to do with these SE series. Given Sega's recent comments though, they pretty much have abandoned anything that isnt Sonic or some other lame series.

I wonder what this means for Tri Ace? I mean they still have a working relationship with Square as seen in XIII-2, but they developed that new engine and have yet to show a game for it.

The Last Hope was the only Star Ocean game I played, but I really liked it. I was hoping for a new game set in that universe. I really want to play the first three games to see what connections they have to Last Hope.

Pretty much the revelation of the Star Ocean universe's reality back in Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (in relation to the Eternal Sphere's role in that game's 4D Universe) pretty much doomed the series to a lingering death, because, really, how do you top that?
(And, no, fan-service cuts of Reimi's assets after every battle do not in fact qualify. That was embarrassing.)
