I think the show sucks. It's like a boot-legged version of the show Vandread. The only reason a guy would want to watch it is because the graphics are good, they're mostly girls in the show and their exaggerated big boubs move up and down like the Dead or Alive girls. I think they call it the jiggle.

...and that's the same type of review I keep reading everywhere on it too, though I haven't seen it myself. Some people here liked it though acording to the ratings. Laughing

From the ratings chart it looks pretty much like a 'love it or hate it' type of show. I have to say I'm in the 'hate it' camp. I disliked the uneasy blending of cgi and 'traditional' animation (pretty common problem these days though), and as for the jiggling, I'm much more fond of L than DD Embarassed

I just finished wtaching it, and I gotta say the ending made me say WTF. I should be recieving the first Misaki chronicle today via netflix, I hope it will have some answers. Most of the show had me wondering what was going on, it didn't really help that they played the second to last episode first. Semi spoiler ahead, not to bad though, won't really reveal to much, but gonna use the tag anyways - spoiler[ The death of one of the main characters kinda disturbed me, too. I knew the person was gonna die, from reading about Misaki chronicles, but I did not expect it to be quite that... hmm well not graphic so much as just plain troubling to me, if you have seen it I am sure you know what I mean.] Big boobs do not really bother me one way or the other, if anything I find it amusing, I am always waiting for them to knock themselves or someone else out with them. I wonder if they have to special order the space suits, and maybe make the chest area bigger for there ships and such larger... good shock absorbers though, heh. Anyway, I suggest that if you do watch it, skip the first episode, and watch it after the episode titled mission one. This is just my suggestion, I wish I had done it that way though. I had read on amazon they played the second to last episode first, but I went ahead anyway and watched it in order, sucks to be me.

DE is one of those series which starts off really bad but steadily gets better. By its later stages I thought it was actually a very solid sci-fi horror series, at least in the storytelling sense, and the metal-themed musical score supports that well. In fact, it improves so much, and its dark nature is so at odds with the cover art on its DVD volumes, that I picked it as my biggest (positive) surprise of 2005.

Granted, the series has some big issues. The massive breasts were probably intended as some fan service gimmick to get guys hooked on the show, but they end up being only a distraction and nuisance once the storytelling kicks into high gear; DE would have been a better series with more normal figures on its female cast. It's also not one of the better examples of blending CG and regular animation, although making the ghouls and spoiler[Misaki's avatar] in CG while the rest of the characters were drawn did provide a nice contrast which emphasized their utterly alien nature. And that first episode is just awful. Overall, though, I didn't regret buying the series.

I've seen the first two volumes of Misaki Chronicles and have the third waiting around the house on my "will get to eventually" list. It does pick up right where DE left off but also muddles around with this messy time travel/alternate universe business for its first few episodes and has one of the more incongruously cheery openers out there. If you want the full DE story, though, then MC is a must-see. Also see my review of the first volume of MC on this site for more detailed comments.

I enjoyed this series immensly. I had picked it up initially for the fanservice, but as Key stated, the story actually got good. The timeline scenes confused me a bit, but toward the end i had gotten the jist of everything.

I picked up the first two DVDs of MC, but haven't gotten around to viewing it yet.

Over all, it had an interesting plot. However "the jiggle", the over all art style and the main character being a complete dunce took away from that.

Exactly.
I would really like to know if the orginal writer had big boobs intended for this anime. Or whether the Jiggle was just there as a cheap marketing gimmik.

I just finished watching the third Misaki Chronicle, and man, that time travel / alternate universe stuff sure messes me up, heh.
Discusses the end, do not read if ya do not wanna know ->spoiler[ It looked like, to me atleast, everyone was alive again, including Luxandra and Kiri. It appeared they were all waiting to board the shuttles to watchers nest from the spaceship they had to take from earth. I guess Misaki was just there chilling, waiting for Lyar to show up, and where the 2 universes were joined, Miskai appeared. Then they lived happily ever after. I wonder if Lyar ever got married. I wonder also if that blonde jerk is gonna cause more trouble, he mught just be another genetic baby, either way, there are no more ghoul, so he does not really have the opportunity, I guess.] Thats my take on it, anyways.

After watching the first episode on ANoD, I wanted to know the world where every female had like 40DDDs. My God, the fanservice. And pushups, LOTS OF PUSHUPS. And fluctuating gravity. And shots of girls in strange angles. Cool

Funny thing is the storyline is slighty reminiscent of Outlaw Star so far. Throw in the twist that spoiler[Misaki is a clutz of a girl trying to get through military school, and you have a Mihoshi angle. However the reason she continues is serious and despite the amount to fanservice] I found it to be pretty nice. I'd watch another ep. or two ... if I can see it. Rolling Eyes
