I just bought the Fruits Basket Box Set...of all 26 episodes on "Amazon Market Place" (sorta like an Ebay on Amazon, except no bidding). Now I thought I was buying the licensed FUNi dub of it, however when I got the DVD it had 3 disks (instead of the 4 that I thought)...English & Japaneese tracks & subtitles for both languages. It cannot find the FUNi or Toei logo anywhere on the box & it says "Animation World International Limited" on the back of the box. Though nothing is wrong with the episodes I was wondering...did I buy a bootleg?

I'd say more than likely, if when you're putting on the DVD and the FUNi logo doesn't come up. Just remember you cannot fully trust amazon to give you legitimate copies of certain series out there.

Yes, you're right, there is no FUNi Logo (or trailers for that matter).

Check out this link for more information on getting your money back: Previous Amazon Stores Bootleg Issue

You may or may not be successful, but you should at least give it a try. For me, it was a quick and painless affair to get my money back from the bootleg seller. And if it isn't for you, Amazon A to Z might help out too.

You have a bootleg, my friend. 3 discs instead of 4, and no FUNi logo. Good luck on returning it.

Yup. Sounds like you got a bootleg.

Here's what it should look like:

http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/HEufXiyOh4M6L1p7xz/browse/item/63863/4/0/0

This is from Right Stuf. A REALLY great place to buy anime, and you can get really good deals if you're a "Got Anime" member and watch out for the special sales.

morsmaestro followed Mylene's advice and it turned out well. I hope that it turns out well for you too!

The general rule of thumb for Amazon Marketplace is that if the price is too good to be true its a bootleg. Plus most of the sellers who have the real thing will make a point of it in the description.

Yeah, I'd also be leery of anything that says "Import DVD" when doing such searches on Amazon or eBay or anything which doesn't have any details about disk count. I've been looking for a good price on a Fruits Basket boxed set myself but haven't seen anything online less than $56 for outright purchase which look legit. There are a few on eBay auction which look legit (right disk count and cover picture), so I might try my luck at those.

I have the exact same situation with my Cowboy Bebop DVD's. All 26 episodes on 3 disks. And it says that it's licensed by FX or something on the back. Unfortunately, I can't return it because my brother bought it 3 years ago and I didn't notice this until a few weeks ago.

FX = well-known bootlegger, they of course don't "license" jack s***. One good way to avoid bootlegs on Amazon MarketPlace is to click the "see all seller feedback" link on the sales page. Check the first 7 or 8 pages, and if you see any mention of bootlegs, knock-offs, imports, or Chinese anything in the comments, don't buy from them. I was checking to see if the Escaflowne Perfect Collection was still available anywhere (the second release with 8 discs + movie, not the first LE box), and all the MarketPlace sellers turned out to be selling bootlegs, even the ones that didn't come out and say "3 Disc Version."
I have found the Fruits Basket set for 51.37 before shipping at DVDPacific, thanks to the magic of DVDpricesearch. Only problem with that site is that they don't seem to search for pre-orders too well, but they only link to legitimate sellers, as far as I know.

Urk!!! I bought my Fruits Basket box set from "deepdisountdvd.com" but it doesn't look the same as the one in your link (from "rightstuff"). Don't tell me mine is a bootleg too?!?!

Mine looks almost the same as the pic from "rightstuff" but the sides of my box set has different pictures on it. The sides look like this and this (excuse the bad quality. I took the picture in a rush).

Is "deepdiscountdvd.com" a ligit place to buy ligit anime???

Yep. And just about the cheapest if you catch one of their 20% off sales.

TheRightStuf isn't showing the actual artwork, but you have a legit release.

TheRightStuf
DVDPacific
DVDEmpire
DigitalEyes
DeepDiscountDVD
Video Universe

Those 6 stores are just a few places to buy legit R1 releases.

Phew! Thanks for the info *sigh of relief*. I've only just started watching anime so my collection isn't very big. I don't have much experience with buying online but it's good to know that everything I've bought so far is ligit since I've only bought from "deepdiscount". Thanks!
