Ah! My Goddess: The Movie |
Very good |
Wow, the movie is definately much better than the OVA (see below for my comments on the OVA). The animation was much better and the storyline was more complex. Definately better. It even made me teary-eyed. Man, Celestin shouldn't have been confined because he wasn't all bad. He had a very justifiable belief of his own. It wasn't like he was out to harm people. His eventual goal was, after all, to make everyone equally as happy. Hmm... but then Belldandy's belief wasn't bad either. Hard to decide who's right and who's not. |
Azumanga Daioh (TV) |
Very good |
There was some great comody in this one. There were a few times where I had to pause the show due to excessive laughter. It took me a good 5-6 episodes to really get into the anime (esp. when the first episode really wasn't very appealing)... but once I got into it, I loved it. Great character development... so good that I got a bit teary-eyed at the end. I just didn't want to part with such an awesome gang. |
Castle in the Sky (movie) |
Good |
Good enough to watch (ie- not a waste of time) but not good enough to stay in my memory. And since I can't remember much about this movie, I can't really comment on it. |
(The) Cat Returns (movie) |
|
I don't think I liked this movie very much because I can't remember it. I musn't have left a very good impression on me because I rarely rarely forget movies that I've watched. |
Cowboy Bebop (TV) |
Very good |
At first, I didn't really like this anime because I'm not really into space/sci-fi kind of stuff bit as I continued to watch this anime, it really grew on me. One of the reasons why I like Cowboy Bebop is because it's so different from all the other anime I've watched so far. It doesn't really have a plot but at the same time, each episode leaves you with a lingering feeling of some sort. After the last episode, my heart felt like it was being twisted and I couldn't believe it was the end. It's a hard feeling to explain. Just watch it. I agree with what someone said, Cowboy Bebop is a genre in itself. It really is a unique piece of work. |
Fruits Basket (TV 1/2001) |
Good |
Kyo Sohma and Yuki Sohma wa SUGOI!!!! Wow... are the boys in the Sohma family ever HOT! Ha-san, Aya-san, and Shigure-san!!! |
Fushigi Yugi (TV) |
Excellent |
Fushigi Yuugi is a wonderful love story. It brought tears to my eyes constantly throughout the series. I especially enjoyed the complex storyline and how the little things interconnected with each other. I found this series to have a very original and creative plot. One thing that I didn't enjoy was the unneccesary deaths of many of the characters. |
Grave of the Fireflies (movie) |
Bad |
Ugh... this movie was SO slow!!! And the characters didn't appeal to me at all. Because of that, I really couldn't feel anything for them. Thumbs up for the beautiful artwork though. |
Howl's Moving Castle (movie) |
Excellent |
Howl is SOOOOOOO hot!!! Love his hair in the scene where he first appears!!! Oh man!!!
On a side note, I'm proud to say that I've watched it five times already and I only bought the DVD a week ago. |
InuYasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time |
Very good |
A friend gave this movie to me as a gift and it was good enough to make me want to watch the series (although I've been warned that the movies are actually better than the series but who knows). |
Love Hina (TV) |
Weak |
Really... I don't enjoy watching aggressive women beat guys up. I also can't stand guys without a spine and can't stand up for himself. Getting hit once or twice is okay. Getting hit all the time and crying like a baby while flying through the air, no good. At least if you're going to get hit, be a man in some other area of your life. Take Kenshin for example. He playfully gets hit by Kaoru but behind that playfullness, you at least know he's one of the strongest swordsman. |
My Neighbor Totoro (movie) |
Excellent |
SooooOoOoOOooo cute! Need I say more? |
Oh My Goddess! (OAV) |
Decent |
This movie and its characters didn't really appeal to me. I also found the pacing very strange. It starts off with Keiichi and Belldandy meeting each other and then BAM! all of a sudden, they're madly in love with one another. Huh? Besides, Keiichi's only 'ok'. I've see better developed characters.

Porco Rosso (movie) |
So-so |

Rurouni Kenshin (TV 1996) |
Masterpiece |
This is my all time favourite anime because of various reasons. First of all, the series attracted my attention from the very first chapter (which is rare). I couldn't stop watching it once I had started. Second of all, I find Kenshin to be a very noble character who is strong and modest. His philosophy in life is one that I had never encountered nor pondered upon. I find his philosophy to be quite correct, in fact. This brings me to the third and most important reason for my admiration of this series.
The main concepts of his philosophy are quite complex and hard to explain in one short paragraph. I'll try my best. Here I go: VERY gernerally summarized, the antagonist of the first story arc, Shishio, believed in the survival of the fittest. However, the protagonist of the series, Kenshin, believed that the strong should defend and protect the weak. I had never thought about this perspective before because I was a supporter of the law of survival. After watching Kenshin, it changed my perspective, which is very rare.
A second concept struck me as very true. History is written by the victors. As a result, history is obviously written in favour of the victors. It makes it seem like the victors were the "correct" ones. Kenshin, however, believes that this is not true. Even when Kenshin wins a battle, he says he might not be the one who's right. Shishio believed in what he was fighting for just as much as Kenshin. It just so happend that Kenshin won. In this case, it is obvious that Shishio is the 'bad guy' since he wanted to turn Japan into a chaotic hell. However, what Kenshin says applies to a lot of things in real life. Sometimes it is very difficult to distinguish between right and wrong. It's not always cut and dry like Shishio and Kenshin.
For these reasons, and actually more but I can't exactly put it into words at the moment, I extremely enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin. It made me think about a lot of things in life. In fact, I'm still pondering upon some of its messages. Perhaps I will also have to wander for ten years, like Shishio and Kenshin, in order to discover the truth... hee hee hee. |
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal (OAV) |
Excellent |
To be honest, I like the tv series much better than the OAV. I found the OAV much too graphic and violent for my tastes. However, the art was beautiful and exteremly detailed and I like that. Furthermore, the plot was very well written and intense. |
Sailor Moon (TV) |
Good |
This is the the first anime that I remember watching and as a result, I can't really remember it. It has to have been at least 10 years ago. All I remember is I was obsessed with Tuxedo Mask and that I have a lot of Sailor Moon memorabilia in my closet. |
Samurai 7 (TV) |
Decent |
It was ok... except the ending was a bit disappointing. |
Shaman King (TV 2001) |
Excellent |
This was an excellent anime! I first came across Shaman King in Shounen Jump and really liked the manga. I then watched the anime and found it really exciting. My favourite thing about this anime is how rivals turn into friends. I really liked to watch the relationships develop. The characters were all so cool... even the antagonist, Asakura Hao. My favourite characters include, of course, Asakura Yoh, Tao Ren, and Horo Horo. On top of it all, I love the opening songs. Wow, such a great anime. Interesting twists with Yoh and Hoa being twins! The only thing I probably didn't like were the X-Laws and the stupid music that played everytime the appeared. What were they thinking?!?!

Spirited Away (movie) |
Excellent |
Great storyline and beautiful art. I've watched it so much I can't remember how many times I've watched it. |
Touch (TV) |
Decent |
This series was not good enough to comment on. I especially didn't like how the ending left you wondering. I was upset to find out it didn't have a sequal and that essentially, there was no end! |
