If that is the case, I feel no remorse for the person being sued. If they were warned multiple times and brushed it off, then that's unacceptable.
They are right that so much counterfeit stuff is sold at cons. Knowingly doing this stuff only hurts the companies that are actively trying to help the anime industry in the states. Cant wait to hear people justify why Funimation is wrong though. |

Well, this is quite the damning bit of a news for a convention that already has to struggle to survive in the shadow of Nan Desu Kan every September.
Never gone to Wasabi, and after seeing this, good chance I won't be going in the near future. NDK's a much more classy outfit anyways. |

Glad they are taking this seriously.
There is a mall near my house that has 4 stores in it full of counterfeit anime merchandise, mostly of Funimation properties. They are cheaply-made pieces of junk so I would love for someone to shut these counterfeit operations down so we can get stores to consider stocking the real stuff! |

More or less what I thought I read the title of this article lol And its not just cons, I see them in Japanese gift shops in malls and little tokyo (Tokyo Lifestyle, specifically) and comic shops. Someone needs to take action, and Im glad funimation is stepping up to the plate |

Wow...I've never gone to Wasabi, and there's a good chance I'm not going to after this fiasco. O.o I'll stick to NDK, thanks.

Kudos to Funimation for this - speaking as someone who tries to 'play by the rules' and purchase only authentic items, anything that scrubs a little more of the knockoff stuff out of the market is welcomed.
I won't name names, but we have a local (Seattle-area) mall chain that's got a ton of questionable merchandise too, and as much as I'd love to see a good anime retailer, I always cringe a little inside whenever I pass by their stores. Hopefully publication of this case will get more people to clean up their acts. |

Wow...this is kind of surreal, especially since it just happened this past weekend and I was there for two days.
To be honest though, I am not all that surprised. |

I don't think Wasabi has struggled to survive in the shadow of NDK, they've struggled to survive in the shadow of their own bad decisions and poor organization. Every year has been a mess. I find the comments about WasabiCon odd, since Animeland Wasabi has been around for much longer (this was year 6, WasabiCon is in year 2) |

I wish distributors in the UK would take this active approach. When I go to London, I see counterfeit merchandise in various markets, even some stores.

I came into this thread expecting the usual Funimation bashing from people who have no real idea about how things in the world actually work. But I've found sensible and logical comments regarding something which is quite serious. Colour me pleasently surprised.

I was rolling my eyes when I read the article title, as Funimation has essentially been suing everyone in the business lately... But this guy sounds like he had it coming. |

This is great. It's terrible going to cons and having to compete with people who sell bootlegs. Hopefully this causes some cons to clean up their act.
I love going to cons where the vendor's room staff actually cares enough to learn about bootlegs and are proactive in removing the items and if necessary the vendor from the room. I would say the majority of vendors know when they are selling bootlegs. |

I...think I have those. My brother got it as a gift, and my brother in turn gave it to me. Picture of them when my brother handed them over during a Christmas visit |

Maybe if Funimation or some other legit company would make the said toys people are buying, there'd be no need for other people to make them to sell?
Either way, it doesn't concern me. I buy both fake and real merchandise. I tend not to buy the fakes if I could find the real...but if a real version doesn't exist, then fakes I go. |
