Seeing that new season is ahead a of us and that nobody made a thread about our exceptions,I thought this was about time to do it.
RDG:Okay this is an adaptation from an ACTUAL novel. Not that light novel crap but an ACTUAL novel.Yes I was surprised, and if that was not enough it was written down by a person who also wrote The Good Witch of the West(really really good manga). There was also that RDG promotional manga that was completely fine.Biggest obstacle here is the director Toshiya Shinohara. His previous work seems pretty mediocre and I am wondering if he has the ability to adapt this kind of material(he did do a decent job on Bantorra though).Michiko Yokote have pretty good record. They can write good stuff like Princess Tutu and can adapt material Genshiken. They also wrote Chrome Shelled Regios, yeah okay sure.I dont really like Kisfhida Mel designs especially since the original art from novel looks spectacular. But what you gotta when you gotta do. Hataraku Maou-sama!:Oh look it is LN title! How exciting! And let us not even begin with the director,oh God this will be crap. Suisei no Gargantia:Urobuchi is writing the screenplay so I will definetly check this out.Kazuya Murata didn't do anything really big like this so I dont know what to expect from him.Now the actual mecha designs(ships and mechas)look incredibly amazing. They have already previewed two episodes and makes me believe that budget is probably gigantic.I dont know who did character designs but the coloring is really nice and quite different from most of the shows.I am expecting a lot. KARNEVAL:When you ask fans of manga why do they like it.They will all answer because of characters at hat moment you know this is not going anywhere nice.Whole point of this manga and there is a big chance of this anime is for characters to look pretty, and that is it.Plot is mess but who cares when you have your homosexual pairing(WOOOOO). Trailer made it look nice, seems like there will be some nice action scenes here and there and that is it.Staff looks pretty average, nothing really special done.Manglobe was nice studio but now they just make crap.I hope this makes them some money so they can get back to stuff like Samurai Champoo. Majestic Prince:This is advertised as an action comedy and the dialogue in the trailer seemed pretty funny,so I will check it out. Motonogata Keitaro had directed some crappy titles but among them you can find stuff like Katanagatari, which means he can make can handle action scenes and comedy quite well.Reiko Yoshida is experienced writer and she can write similar material like Scrapped Princess ,so I dont see her as problematic figure here.Another thing is mecha designs look really awesome and they will be animated by Orange. Now Orange has some impressive menu when it comes to CG mechas.Just look at that Akito dude, not to mention they are gaining reputation in Japan enough so they will be doing CG for new GitS. Henneko: Re:Kantoku :Yeey another LN title.Want to bet this anime will be crap? Arata Kangatari:Nah something really doesn't click with me for this show.Mangaka of this has written Fushigi Yugi which I am not very interested in.It is adapted by Satelight’s lesser staff and a Korean studio so it will look like crap.Everything from designs to story looks generic. And reviews here for manga confirm it,so yeah not watching this. Kakumeiki Valvrave:Okay a new Sunrise mecha show and it has some good staff working on it.Okouchi is mostly famous for his over the top and insane anime like Code Geass and King Gainer, but he can write serious and mature works like Planetes and Turn A Gundam.Kō Matsuo is great director who always puts emphasis on his characters and dialogue so I am lead to believe that this series will try to be more serious in its nature.Thing is CG in trailer looked like crap I am not exterminating this.Just watch it and be amazed how little we progressed from Golgo 13: The Professional.Katsura Hoshino did character designs and as expected they look great. She seems to have created created their personalities through smallest details on their clothes and such. One dude looks like he came from LoGH which is big plus to me. Aku no Hana:Source material for this anime I find to be extraordinarily good. And person who is directing this is Hiroshi Nagahama and I think he is one of the best and most talented directors we have today. He has this ability to find best things in manga and using this medium of animation make them even better. All the rest of staff is pretty good even including art director.Thing is they want to experiment on this anime using rotoscoping and they dont want reveal character designs until the show airs.Which really worries me that it will end up looking horrible and unwatchable.Nevertheless I believe in directors abilities and if experimentation works it will most likely be one great anime. Crime Edge:Now when you hear about this anime ,reactions are "Oh from the director of Fate/stay night .HAHAHAHAHAHA this will suck right guys"?But everybody seems to be forget he directed Touka Gettan which had an incredibly well made surreal atmosphere,he to me is not a an average director. The premise of this show also is really surreal,so I am thinking the director is back on his turf doing what he does incredibly well.I have high expectations from this. Devil Survivor 2:Okay this is directed by Seiji Kishi who also did Persona 4 and nobody liked that anime. But there are some differences in these prudctions.First is original Persona 4 was 80 hours long whilst Devil Survivor 2 is only 20 hours long.Persona 4 had shitty production values for what we have heard Devil Survivor 2 looks amazing.Devil Survivor 2 is written by Makoto Uezu who has worked a lot with Kishi unlike Persona 4 which had Yuuko Kakaihra working on it.Besides I heard this stuff is a lot like Evangelion so I must at least watch first episode. Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san:From the things I have seen manga seems pretty hilarious.Director is a newbie and that is nice to see,the scriptwriter also was a main writer on Milky Holmes which makes me pretty optimistic. One thing that really stand out is that character designs look so 80s it is impossible not to give this show chance. So that is it from me.I hope you guys write something cause if you dont I will be embarrassed a bit. [EDIT: Paragraph breaks are your friend. -TK] |

RDG Red Data Girl looks rather intriguing, and the promo video for Attack On Titan got me really excited for that show. I'll likely give most of these shows at least one episode, just to see what this season has to offer.

Great prospects: Nothing. A season without noitaminA will do that to ya. Good prospects: Attack on Titan: Awesome premise. I hear great things about the manga. Not loving that it is coming from the director of Guilty Crown and Highschool of the Dead though. Of course, one could argue those shows flaws had more to do with writing/source material and not direction. Decent prospects: RDG: Based on an actual novel instead of a light novel and sounds like a mystery. Anime needs more mysteries. Still about a young girl in a shrine getup which gives me some trepidation. Questionable prospects: Devil Survivor 2: Not sure about Devil Survivor specifically but SMT generally means strong source material. Same director as Persona 4 though. Hence, I'd say there is major potential to be the same kind of rushed, fanwank, doesn't stand on its own adaptation. Gargantia: I can't say this show looks particularly good but if Urobuchi is inovlved it demands at least a look. Stuff I'll keep an eye on but probably won't check out unless I actually hear something positive: Crime Edge: The sheer oddity of the premise makes me a little curious. But nothing here actually makes me think this will be good. Aku no Hana: I'd like to think this premise will be used for something other than propping up another shitty otaku show...but it probably won't. |

Attack on Titan is the only show I saw that I thought might be worth watching. I hope there are some unexpected gems out there, or this is going to be a bleak spring season for me.

I was mildly interested in Valvrave, until I saw the mechs were CG.
Attack on Titan looks like it might be interesting, so I'll give it a try. I'm probably most interested in Gargantia, but my interest in that show hinges heavily on whether it turns out to be a serious story about that setting or just using that setting as a platform for a moe harem with those characters. I'm still not sure which, but I really hope it's the former rather than the latter, because the setting looks really interesting and looks like it has a lot of potential to tell a great story. The real question is just whether or not they're attempting to do so. |

so many good anime next season. Don;'t know which one to watch based on the limited time that i have.
I guess will start with Dragon Ball X One Piece X toriko and Ore No Imouto , Attack on Titan, Valvrave and Gargantia If Gargantia does better than Valvrave, Sunrise should hire Urobuchi to write the next Gundam. |

Let's see... in terms of sequels, I'll be watching OreImo and Nyaruko-san.
Yuyushiki, Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san and Aiura sound like they might be shorts I'll follow unless they're godawful like Ai Mai Mi. I'll have to think about it if any of them turn out to be full-length. Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge is something I'll probably watch one episode of, just to see how cringe-worthy it is. Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat genuinely seems like it might be interesting. Attack on Titan is a definite "will watch" given how much I love the manga. Hopefully the technical excellence of Guilty Crown will translate over without bringing any of the show's awfulness. |

It doesn't look like too terrible a season.
Looking forward to: Flowers of Evil: I've heard nothing but good things about the source material, so I'm looking forward to giving the adaptation a try. Suisei no Gargantia: Production IG and the summary sounds interesting. Will give these a shot: Arata: Yuu Watase is a mixed bag for me--I either really love her stuff, or really hate it. I'll give it a shot. Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat: Heard decent things about the manga and the premise sounds somewhat interesting, so I'll try it. Not a genre I usually like, but what the hey. Good to broaden my horizons, right? Karneval: My friend likes the manga, and it looks pretty colorful. Also bishies. >w> RDG Red Data Girl: I like PA Works well enough and the premise has promise. As for sequels, well, I am not against the idea of watching more UtaPri. |

Definitely will check out:
Attack on Titan- I saw the trailer and it looks good. RDG Red Data Girl- Same with this, the trailer makes it look interesting. Kakumeiki Valvrave- I'll check this out solely because it's a sunrise mecha. Samurai Bride- Once I'm done with the first series that is. Space Battleship Yamato 2199- Awesome sci-fi space opera and remake of the classic, some of which is already out, which is how I know I'll watch this, because it was highly entertaining. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S-I'll give this a shot since I've watched the things in the franchise. Last edited by Kruszer on Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:50 am; edited 1 time in total |

For me:
Attack on Titan- Read and love the manga. Looks like it has the chance to be a great adaption and the fact that Araki's directing it makes me more hopefull. Worst thing to worry about is the high chance of an original ending but I think it can be pulled off decently. Arata Kangatari- The anime announcement got me to read the manga since I'd been curious about it, and I've been enjoying it so far. Kind of worried it might be rushed, but hopefully they'll make it work out. The cast list looks great though. Suisei no Gargantia- Production I.G. and Urobuchi are more than enough to make me interested in this. It does look like it'll be more lighthearted than Urobuchi's usual stuff, but it might be interesting to see him do something a bit different this time around. Valvrave: The Liberator- Mostly interested just cause it's Sunrise, but it does look fairly interesting even if it is obviously just a Gundam show in a different skin. Plus I'm excited for TM Revolution doing the opening since they haven't done any anime songs in a while. Of course with Aniplex producing it I'm scared of liking it too much and being faced with their prices if Aniplex USA picks it up but that's a different subject entirely. There's some other stuff I'm kind of interested in, but it'll mostly be trial and error with deciding whether or not to keep up with them. |

Wow, not even closely interested in anything for this season, except Otona Joshi No Anime Time
The rest of them don't spark anything of interest for me. I'm hoping to find a hidden gem as well. |

Is there really an anime called Adult Woman Anime Time. Really. "Hey women, watch this, no its okey, its made for you...For mature adults such as yourself..." uh okay.
Is there an anime called 'hey Otaku, this show is for you so just watch it already.' Of course, there's already Straight Title Robot Anime... I'll be watching season 2 of Azazel, a comedy anime that actually makes me laugh, and the mermaid anime looks really cute too. Flowers of Evil, Attack on Titan, Mushibugyo maybe..and definitely the Toriko/Dragonball/One Piece crossover, sounds nuts |
