Hi all,
Im new to this site because I've only recently just started watching some anime after a long time not watching it. I dont watch many animes mainly because we dont get many over here in the UK unless you want to watch dragonball Z on cartoon network which honestly i dont. I've only really watched Tenchi Muyo the OVA's mainly , dont like the tv series. Also I've seen films like Akira and spirited away, the more famous anime films. But i was just wondering if there were any good animes that anyone could recomend to watch?? I dont mind what genre but i prefer comical ones mostly. Thanks. |

If you like (perverted) comedy, I would suggest Golden Boy. The animation is superb and some of the gags just...uh, you gotta see it.

Three series that have a wide appeal in my view are...
Martian Successor Nadesico, which is a 26-episode sci-fi series with both comedy and suspense and lots of entertaining characters. It's not too shallow and not too deep, but just right. I enjoyed the series very much but the movie was terrible. When Earth's colonies on Mars are suddenly attacked by alien invaders referred to as the Jovian Lizards, civilian contractor Nergal decides to come to the Earth's aid by constructing powerful space battleships, the first of which is known as the ND-001 Nadesico. A crew is selected from among the top civilian experts in each field, however, these individuals tend to have "some slight personality disorders". The main character, Akito Tenkawa, is a man with a mysterious past; once a resident of Mars' Utopia colony, Tenkawa somehow escaped its destruction by the Jovian Lizards and arrived on Earth, with no memory of how he got there but a terrible fear of the invaders. He hates fighting and only wants to be a cook, however, he is constantly called on to act as a pilot of one of the Nadesico's Aestevalis - humanoid combat robots. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martian_Successor_Nadesico anime#42 Gatekeepers is a polished and light hearted 24 episode retro-sci-fi series from Gonzo. The visuals were nice and the plot was great for a 'just pop it in and watch' title that didn't require much in the way of dedicated mental attention. The Gatekeepers 21 OVA was a bit too dark and pessimistic and not to my liking. The story revolves around the year 1969, a period of time in which Japan is experiencing intense economic and social development at the end of the Second World War. Unbeknownst to the humans, alien beings have emerged with plans to take over the world by sending numerous robotic aliens to wreck havoc in cities, even turning some of the people into robotic minions as well. They are referred to as Invaders. In an attempt to confront these Invaders and defend the planet, an elite but highly secret organisation of peace-keepers called A.E.G.I.S. (Alien Exterminating Global Intercept System), was set up with special funding from the government. They rely on the ability of Gate Keepers, who have the power to open dimensional "gates" of a paranormal energy that give them their superpowers. These superpowers are also the only weapons that have any effect on Invaders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatekeepers anime#245 Slayers is a humorous 78-episode fantasy series with a group of misfits fighting evil forces and each other. It's another great "just for the hell of it" title that doesn't require much thought to enjoy and appeals to a lot of anime fans. Slayers (スレイヤーズ Sureiyāzu) is a series of comedic sword and sorcery anime and manga that began as light novels written by Hajime Kanzaka. They chronicle the adventures of Lina Inverse and her various companions as they journey through the high fantasy world. These adventures take place in a magical medieval setting. The anime series is organized into cycles starting out humorous, then slowly working towards serious until at the end of the cycle the fate of the world hangs in the balance. But until the very end of each of these cycles, even the most serious moments will usually have a few short moments of comic relief. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slayers anime#657 Last edited by daxomni on Sat Apr 29, 2006 7:01 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Personally, I like Bleach.
It's got a nice combination of action and comedy. I'm kind of new here to the forums but I've spent a lot of time just running through the encyclopedia looking for some good animes to watch. I'm not too big in the comedy department but I did think Bleach was pretty funny. |

Comedy really isn't my best most watched genre of anime but I did like:
Excel Saga- Wacky and hillarious, this anime spoofs everything including various anime stereotypes and even Star Wars. I can't stop laughing whenever I watch it. It's best if you've seen a good deal of anime before watching this one though otherwise some of the jokes may be lost on you. Chobits- Cute and funny it revolves arround a a broke student from a rural area named Hideki who moves to Tokyo to enroll in a college prep school. He really wants a Persacom, which is an advanced humanoid looking computer as he sees them everywhere. One day while walking home he finds one in the trash and takes her home, which is where all his troubles begin. |

If you are looking for a comedic anime then I always have to suggest FLCL. It is extremely weird and will definitely make you laugh. Its pretty short though so don't go expecting a long series.

Well for comedy, there i can help you...
Azumanga Daioh - lots of humor comes from a really great cast of characters; also, it's good fun because there seems to be a girl that everyone can relate themselves/a friend too, so humor comes back into play there. You'll also gte added kicks if your in high school/college. And it looks really good too ![]() Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - funniest thing i have seen yet, and it's jut coming out too. It will be a 14 episode series, and there are currently 5 available. I can't honestly explain why it's funny, it jusr really is hailarious. Great characters, and it looks really good to. And, it has something alot of other comedic series lack...a point. And an interesting one, tht means they have managed to combine genius humor, with a great plotline, for the first time i have really ever seen. This is also my current favorite anime, btw Excel Saga - Just a 26 episode parody of anything and everything, excel saga is also a fun watch. HYperactive excel is endlessly entertaining, as is the ever-dying hyatt (poor thing) and their master, lord illplazzo (spelling on that?). Not to bad animation, but like FLCL more of a WTF? series than a traditional humor series. hope that helps! PM me, i can provide a full list of great shows (by full i man like five more lol im new too ![]() |

Personally I kinda get into everything...Macross is always at the top of my list, that being the original Macross as well as the Robotech series.
Karas recently hit me as a new fav, can't wait for the second one to come out! Classics with me are always good for the anime parties, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Five Star Story, Cowboy Bebop. And occasionally Wicked City makes a good guilty pleasure. ![]() |

What is up with all the Excel Saga recommendations? If you're new to anime, it's really not that funny. Actually, even if you're not new to anime it's still not that funny. Also, the Chobits suggestion probably should have at least mentioned the ecchi aspects.

There is also Hare + Guu which was quite funny too in a simular fashion to Excel Saga or FLCL. I can't believe no one mentioned Trigun because it's a very good watch and well worth pretty much what ever you pay for it.
