Why does it seem that 95% of female characters seem to be teary eyed when they are having sex? Does it hurt that much or is the feeling of the orgasm that great?

I suppose such a question would depend on the context. Is the sex in question consensual, or rape? The answer should be pretty self-explanatory.

i think it's also a way of portraying how innocent and sweet the character is. the loli character seems to be the one tearing most of the time.

Anyone, male or female, would cry if they were being raped! 
As for the other instance. If it is the character's first time, it may be because of pain but it could also be with happiness because they are with the one that they love and in the next scene they going to do something that may get themselves killed. Remember Miaka and Taka at the end of the Fushigi Yugi OVA? |

All sarcasm and bad humor aside, I always wonder about this. If it's a girl's first time, it seem like they cry because it hurt and they don't want it. This seem to happen to in asian live- action stuff too . It's a cultural thing. |

I've noticed that too. The only manga I've seen with actual sex is Battle Royale. Without getting too personal, I've heard from friends that their first time was painful... so maybe Japanese [writers?] believe that all first times are painful. Although studies show that only an average of 24% of women actually go through serious pain during intersourse, and apparently all of them are in anime.

You haven't read Futari Ecchi? The mangas I have seen with rape have had the girls crying. I did hear from one of my friends that the first time she had sex it did hurt. |

Damn the anime, how about the live action stuff? Even when it's consensual, I could almost swear they're crying or at least sounding like it. I'm this close to swearing off asian porn as a whole if they don't start sounding like their enjoying it. I mean, if anyone saw Lost in Translation with the scene with the whore in it, it almost seems like the entire nation of japan wants to be domineering males who inflict pain on their subserviant women. It kinda puts a stigma on the whole thing.

about the 1st time issue - it has actually been proven that sex ain't so great for a women the first time
but many anime characters get it a lot, so I don't know |

There are a lot of sexual questions on the boards today.
It is quite painful for a female's first time, but I don't think that's the reason the teary-eyed trend exists in manga; it's more a liberation taken on the author's part to appeal to their readers (namely, men). I believe the tears make the female characters appear more weak and submissive (and often reluctant), making the men seem stronger and more powerful in comparison. And because the manga I assume you're referring to appeals to men, they relate to the male characters and in turn feel powerful as well. Sex is treated quite differently in shoujo and josei manga. The emotional aspect of love-making is often emphasized. Also, I've seen more than one instance of women appearing apathetic during sex; their mind is perhaps in another place or they are simply tired of the ritual (or men/relationships in general). |

I saw one show where they interviewed this guy living in Japan and he said he likes Asian porn over American porn because of the women making those noises.

On the subject of women crying during sex......
My best guess is that they're virgins. Whenever a woman has sex for the first time, it results in the tearing of the Hymen, which causes sharp pain and bleeding. And yes, its quite painful. |

I don't think I've seen too many animes where the girls bleed. Seen a couple of mainstream mangas.
