I never got to watch Saint Saiya when I was younger, although I have heard a lot of people talk about it.

My question is that if this series is worth adding to a collection. I used to watch DBZ, but I got tired of it as I grew older, but now I like stuff like Bleach. Since Saint Saiya is now available in the thinpack from ADV, I'm wondering if it is worth picking up.

Also, the first collection consists of episodes 1-30, and the second collection will have 31-60. Are these episodes any good? Or is the series more popular because of the later episodes? I think the encyclopedia has it listed for 114 episodes. I know this is a dated series. Visually, I don't care what an anime looks like as long as the story and action scenes are solid.

Well one thing about the the serires is that as you think one arc ends, it keeps going right into the next one, often in the same episode.

The second is a bit better, as spoiler[it has the heroes go up against the most powerful warriors ever]...

It's pretty great, once you get past the first 3 or 4 episodes. One of my fav. shonen series.

For $50 or less, the thinpak set is a steal.

This is one of my favorite series ever. I used to watch it on TV when i was younger and each episode seemed better than the previous one. The thing with Saint Seiya is that when you think it can't get any better, it surprises you and creates situation that won't let you stop watching.

If you liked Bleach, you will probably like Saint Seiya even more because they have a lot of things in common. Unlike Bleach, in Saint Seiya there isn't a huge overwhelming difference in power between the main character and his companions. In Bleach there are 13 Captains of 13 squads, and they are all pretty cool characters. In SS there are 12 Gold Saints, one for each Zodiac sign, they are very amazing characters with plenty of background depth and they are surrounded by an aura of mystery and intrigue.

My recommendation: Buy the CDs, you won't regret it.

P.S. My avatar is Shakka, the Gold Saint of the house of Virgo isn't he cool?!

But unfortunately ADV doesnt have the rights to the rest of the series or if they did they arent releasing the rest of it, because there's 114 eps and they only released 60 eps, and the Sanctuary arc is 73 eps and then there's the Posiden arc and Hades arc and a bunch of movies and OVA's. But it's still a great series.

I think at 60 episodes, they have a little bit more than half of the series, but does it end a certain story arc? I read on another site that reviewed it that the 60th episode is not a definite conclusion to the series. If I do buy the first 60 episodes and like the series, I'll have to resort to fansubs... Not too proud of it, but if it's the only way...

i watched all the saint saiya and manga. the first half is not so good. (first 65 eps?) it will start to get better when they fight the golden saints, then apollo and Poseidon.then they stopped the show and Hades chapter much later.
Hades chapter is the best one because the main character doesn't have much screen time. ^^ i hate saiya.

it's also one one of my favorite shonen series. maybe because that's the best anime at the time. i watched during the ealry 90s.

Well the fact that the next set of 30 hasn't been released doesn't really mean it won't be be released eventually.

The best part of the series is from about episode 41 to 73, which is the sanctuary portion of the series. In my opinion it is probably the best arch in any fighting series ever. You are only missing 13 episodes which like you said, you can fansub (good luck with that). Fortunately, those 13 are the least amazing and climatic of that arch, mainly because spoiler[ by then the main characters have already opened their seventh sense]. They are still amazing but it probably won't kill you to wait until ADV releases the next 30.

Personally I found the Asgard and Poseidon archs pretty redundant because neither the Asgard warriors nor the Poseidon Saints are anything compared to the Gold Saints. You could skip directly to the Hades OVA, which takes the main characters back to the Sanctuary and again becomes incredibly amazing.

Buy them, you won't regret them.
