Sounds like cheap labor for Funi at cons. I think that the trick will be to find reliable fans who are knowledgable enough to do the job, and still have fun helping out.
To be honest, I think they'll have more interest that they expected, especially from the older crowd Meh, I could always use a free Funimation Shirt

I am interested in this, though I've personally never been to a convention
 . However, I'm very willing to learn and see how it all works, having become extremely curious from my friends' stories the last couple of years.
While I'm not too familiar with FUNimation's titles in particular, I've at least got the passion part covered and would actually love the opportunity to experience everything in their anime arsenal (I just haven't had enough money to see everything else I've wanted  ).
In fact, I've been wanting to make a career out of working for them for some time now, seeing as how I've got all this zeal for anime, but no real outlet other than the forums  . Their offices are also within driving distance for me (about an hour and a half). Perhaps this could be the start of something great  .

Well, as cool as this sounds, this is just a cost-cutting move to reduce the number of people that have to run and staff industry tables. You'd think that they could at least reimburse part of your registration, but hey, swag works, too.
Nice use of Conan, though. |

that said, they pay for your registration. Not that kind of thing matters a lot to me (good job, doing panels this year so my registration is comped anways) |

Hardly a new or unique practice, nor is it really unethical or wrong despite how much I know some people just like to find an excuse to rip on a domestic licensor.
It's impractical to hire employees specifically for conventions only simply because the hours wouldn't be sufficient enough for anyone to live off of but they'd have to fly these people around and have them spend time away from home all for a job that barely qualifies as part time. It also gives fans the chance at a more in depth look at the business and bring in people to meet with fans who are fans themselves. Industries have been doing this for decades, it's not like Funi suddenly reinvented slavery, it's a win/win situation really, Funi gets labor without hiring constantly hunting for temps that aren't interested or hiring permanent employees for temporary positions and at the same time gets workers that are enthusiastic and interested in the industry and fandom. On the other side you get fans who get some exposure to the industry and a chance to get involved, not to mention some freebies on the side. It is called volunteering for a reason. If you're not interested I don't think that's a problem since, you know, you don't have to apply. |

Sounts interesting and I need some new funimation dvd, if it means giving up a weekend to talk to geeky otakus at Anime Expo.

I don't like the idea that you have send in a ID card or Driver's licence with the form, they could take your Idenity with that information. But alas, I submitted my appliciation.

Somehow I doubt that a company like FUNimation would have a reason to steal the identities of a few college kids. |

I love to do this, but I live in Canada
 there doesn't seem to have any anime conventions here, well at least not where I live.

That news bit should be better written. It changes from third person to first person right in the middle of it. Is it ANN speaking or Funimation speaking? The writer must decide!

Woo, I qualify on all levels! More'n old enough, plenting of con-going experience (and some con-volunteering/staffing experience), have seen or am currently watching a most of Funi's titles, not to mention anime in general, and standing around for three hours is nothin'. ;p
Hm, though it says on the page that "we'll tak care of your badge", does that mean they're paying registration? |

If I had a penny for every time that happened...
anyway, the site seems to be done. You'd think that they could hire decent networking staff if they wanted to put up what will (probably) be a high traffic page. Sheesh... what is it with these companies? Don't they realize that the majority of their marketing is done over the net? |
