So we have two of the remaining big publishers in North America combining? Both are already foreign owned.

You mean print publishing? I don't think it'll be the standard in the next 5-10 years, but I doubt it'll disappear completely.
I do wish they'd chosen the name Random Penguin, though.

Not even remotely. I don't even think this is the "beginning" of anything, it's just another step in the evolution of publishing that has been going one for a long time now, ever since the first good ebook readers took off (and maybe even before that). As I said in the other thread about this, I don't even see it really having much impact on the books that are published, since I'm sure Random House and Pearson-Penguin will continue on as separate imprints of the same company, since both of them already have about a million imprints each. |

Hmm...as someone that's working on completing a novel in the hopes of getting published, I'm not sure how to feel about this. Seems like it makes one less publisher option to look into.

But you wouldn't be looking into publishers, really, in that case. You'd be looking into specific imprints. And as far as we know, this merger isn't closing any imprints. |

Exactly. And each imprint has its own identity and "type" or genre of book it publishes. Oh wow, so that really doesn't narrow down my field of options at ALL. Thanks for the info guys.
Course it all comes down to what imprints my agent would be able to show materials to in the first place I guess. |
