Lightning's all on her own in battles, where she roams around freely and attacks using four commands mapped to the controller's face buttons. |
One of my favorite parts from the Final Fantasy franchise was the party that had various members of different ages. Now, Lightning is alone and there's nobody to interact

Intriguing. I recall a large bear being a selectable character in years past — has much become of him?

Not gonna lie: there's gonna be hella scrubs coming into Tekken...
People didn't even bother to learn Virtua Fighter 5 and that game is actually a lot easier (they even have stuff for lazy people like me like an in-game frame data counter via training mode... this should be standard for all fighting games, including 5P/2P/12-frame attack after block).
Despite learning from an actual good player (Som) and watching all the Level Up Your Game videos over at youtube, I'm still trying to wrap my head around Tekken's significantly larger wakeup options.

I think I remember someone using Kuma at the Southtown Arcade tournament here in SF from a month ago.

Didn't UDON also release the Shining Wind artbook? Sure, it's supposedly a "Shining World" artbook with Tony's art, but I've seen the Japanese scans, and it's much more Shining Wind than Shining Tears.

Snoop Dogg? Really? Interesting cameo.
Also go away Lightning. No one likes you or your series.

The Shining Force Feather book is really nice. (I've flipped through the JP version). I'm glad UDON brought it out, so I don't have to import it.
Double Dragon Neon - looking forward to this since it is DD and I hope the gameplay is solid even if it's slow (DD was never that fast a side-scrolling beat'em up).
Now, what I would love to see some do it a compete version of Super Double Dragon - probably the best in the series and one of the best side-scrolling beat'em ups ever made.

I think we can expect that the rest of the cast isn't going to be dropped entirely - they just won't be playable characters. If there's one thing SE can be counted on its plot, and you can't have a XIII-verse plot without Hope, Snow, and the rest.
Final Fantasy sequels always stray away from the norm path of the franchise in terms of gameplay, and I'm intrigued by the doomsday clock, but I think it's too soon to judge the gameplay since we haven't seen, well, any of it. Regardless of gameplay, though, I'll be getting this no matter what so that I can find out the rest of the story. I'm the type of person who, once I play the first two parts, I have to see it through to the end. And admittedly I'm a huge Lightning fan. Not going to pass up a chance to have her as a main protagonist again.

I was interested enough in FFXIII-2 to buy it but there it sits, atop my game pile, not touched in months cause seriously, !@%#@ that time travel BS. Boring as HELL, and somehow I managed to max out all my skills halfway through the games. Maybe it's cause I could never figure out how to run from a damn battle... Oh wait, they don't have it. The damn game is an eternal grind, and then you just jump from one map to another map of the exact same version. Boring.
Mad I spent what I did on the game. I rather have put it towards the re-work of the new Final Fantasy MMO.
So no. Not buying a new lightning game, especially if they go all Solo/adventure game style with it. I'll borrow it from a friend IF I ever get bored enough to beat FFXIII-2.
As to video game art books, I'm happy with my school for buying some of them every now and then. I was pleasantly surprised to find Shingenori Soejima's Art Works for the Persona series in my school library.

FFXIII: Square (and Toriyama) are REALLY desperate to shove Lightning down our throats, aren't they? She wasn't all that interesting the first time around and this just comes off as pathetic. Seriously Toriyama, just stop it, Lightning isn't interesting and you're a TERRIBLE writer and game designer.
Metal Gear:...Kojima, a freaking controlled tech demo is not gameplay. And furthermore, the Metal Gear series is pathetically drawn out at this point. Just move on and finally do something different.
Phoenix Wright: Good times

And thus ends any potential to save FFXIII. If there's anything I know, it's that Japanese game developers treat "13 days" as "You'll have to replay this over and over and over until you get it just right".
Screw that. Skyrim is a better open-ended game. Spend your money on that.

I have the distinct feeling you're right about that. I bet there's some "perfect run" that you're supposed to do if you want to complete all thirteen days without ever using a do-over. And as per the norm, doing that detracts from any adventurous experience you're supposed to get. If you have to follow some strict guidelines to get the best ending, what's the point of making it an action RPG?
Valkryia Chronicles 3: I still can't believe they'd go to the trouble of getting VC and VC2, but decide that the final title isn't worth it just because they believe the PSP is a dying system. How can the PSP be "dying" when everyone still owns and plays theirs regularly? Video game company mentality, I swear. -_-
Shining Force Feather: Artbooks are always nice, as I have them for some properties that never got English releases, but it's sad whenever I see Shining-related items. It just reminds me that the series died here years ago and won't be getting any localizations ever again.

I really wish they'd just forget about all of those bland action RPGs and go back to what made the Shining series so good in the first place... the strategy RPG gameplay.

And then ANN was Sankaku Complex, with it's sensationalist headlines and blatant lies.

Indeed, we all know how much Majora's Mask was garbage.

They started to become Sankaku-Lite when Biglobe polls started appearing every other day

I didn't mind the action Shining games. They were fun, if not a little mindlessly repetitive at times. I just want a new Shining game. I couldn't believe how long I kept thinking we'd get Wind eventually.
