I don´t know if this belongs in an anime forum but does anyone else like this show? I think the show is hilarious and way funnier than any ¨real¨ anime. I think highly due to the fact most anime is aimed at Japanese viewers with inside jokes that only Japanese, and a select few Americans, can understand. The Boondocks is more about the recent Rap culture and well to sum it up in one word, Niggas.
They have a whole lot of famous actors voice acting too like I swear the other day I heard Samuel L. Jackson and tonights episode had Mos Def and the father sounds a lot like the dad from the Friday movies, maybe it sounds like him because it is him. I´m really glad Adult Swim has decided to air this show because this might mean they will begin airing more mature, or completely unedited, anime titles in the near future because this show has kinda broken the ice and I don´t think it can get any worst, content wise, than The Boondocks. The Anal Rape episode was hilarious as well and well this show has to be one of the funniest shows I have ever seen in my life. Does anyone know who sings the intro song? The outros seem to run super fast for some reason on Adult Swim so I am incapable of reading the whole screen in 1 second. |

Grandad is played by John Witherspoon; who also played the dad on "The Wayans Brothers"; and yes that was Samuel L. Jackson. The intro is sung by Asheru (http://www.myspace.com/asheru1); but sadly, that's as long as the song gets (for now, at least). Here are the lyrics:

Personally I love the show. It's one of the only shows that consistently makes me laugh almost uncontrollably consistently. Also it's the first show I've seen that captures the whole anime style without trying to be anime. So it also get's big points for that and in a way I see it as a landmark for other shows to look to if they want an anime style. Last night with Gangstalicious was definitley one of the better episodes, even though they're all great. "It's like going to Heaven and seeing God smokin crack!" has got to be one of the best lines ever.

Yes they did have samuel L. Jackson play and that was the only episode I did like because pulp fiction is my favorite movie. In that episode the character Smaul L. Jackson was playing he was quoteing alot of lines he said in Pulp Fiction that was pretty darn funny. (Example: What country are you from? What isn't a country I ever heard of. Do they speak english in what? English beep do you speak it?)
But most episodes I find rather lame. The court case episode, the first episode, last nights episode. They all just weren't funny to me. I guess because there wasn't a crazy humor in what was going on nor was there situation humor I could relate to that I would laugh to. |

I just plain dont like it, its stupid and it mocks Anime, i have a lot more reasons but im in a hurry i have other things to post on

I watched it last night and in the scene where the gangster has the rapper guy hostage in the woods, [adult swim] let the f word slide. The guy is like, "Why'd you do it?" and the other guy says, "For f***ing love."

I have yet to see it, but I have seen the trailers/promos on adult swim, and they get the thumbs down from me. but I won't pass judgement untill I see an entire episode.

I can honestly say, i managed to fight through 2 episodes and it is just horrible to watch. I do not know why people think it is so funny or whatever. IMO it is just plain bad.

Everybody has their own opinions. From what I hear about the show from friends at school, it seems pretty funny. The episode I watched about the court case wasn't that great, but I also heard it was the least funny of all. However, they managed to perfectly (well, I think) capture the anime style. I truly and deeply think that this is a great American anime.  ... well, from what I've heard (I really need to start watching this series  )

i'll watch for lack of a better show. and when i do watch i dont mind it. it has some pretty funny jokes, and isnt as bad as some are saying. i also like the animation. similar enough to resemble anime but not stereotypical or annoying looking

It's not great, but the show is good for a few occasional laughs. I sometimes watch the rerun episodes on Saturday.

Okay so, just for laughs do you think you two could actually contribute to the discussion a bit by actually stating why you dislike it? Just saying you hate it or that it "isn't that great" without any semblance of reasoning doesn't provide any sort of intelligent counterpoint to work from. I think the show is very well done
I watched the 'anal-rape' episode, and I was in stitches the whole time. I've seen 3 other episodes since then, and they are consitently good. I don't think it "mocks" anime at all. And it addresses things that are funny to an American urban audience. Brilliant. |
