There's some great news in the December Newtype Magazine. The Boogiepop Phantom novels are coming out in the US, along with the 2 volume manga! It's being licensed by Seven Seas, which as far as I know, have been printing only ameri-manga, so they seem an odd choice to bring them out. I really enjoyed the anime series, but in looking at the extras on some of those disks, you got an sense of the immense amount of backstory and history that American fans did not have access to. I was dying to get my hands on the novels because it sounded so intriguing. The Boogiepop and Others film, while informative, was held back by some awful effects. Reading in a back issue of Protoculture Addicts, there are 12 novels and 2 short story collections of Boogiepop. So that's an awful lot of enjoyment if you're a fan of the show. The first novel, Boogiepop Doesn't Laugh comes out in February but initially it will only be available at Borders and Waldenbooks, with new installments coming out every four months after that. (That's assuming people support the books). The manga will come in April. I know the Vampire D novels have been selling well, so it would be great if Boogiepop gained ground even with non-anime viewers. I think they have that potential. Also looking forward to the Kino's Journey novels. If only someone would license the Twelve Kingdoms books!!!!
