The correct word is Mamono. I don't care if you think I'm being a Japanophile, because I'm actually Japanese. (though no one will believe me). The Zatch Bell dub isn't THAT bad, they handled the spells well, but why did they mispronounce it?

It's funny people make so much more of a huge deal when Americans mispronounce things in Japanese than when Japanese mispronounce things in English. Just be happy they had a good dub.

OMG!! I freaking know what you mean. I am so glad you said that. Everytime I watch an english dub I hear about how people don't like it and it sucks. Well do those people speak japanese fluently? Not many. And how about those people try to translate and dub a friggin series. Then we will see a bad dub. Jesus I hate it when people bitch about dubs.

It would be nice if they got a major plot related word right though. I don't have a problem with most "jinglish" words, since Japanese have a different phonetic system than we do, which makes it hard for them to pronounce are words, nor do I expect Americans to properly pronounce the stranger phonics in Japanese words, such as properly softening "r"s or anything, but simply getting all the letters in a word right shouldn't be a problem. I mean, if a word isn't hard to pronounce, then it should be pronounced right, right?

Half the time you can't even tell if they're using a "d" or a "t", because it's such a minor sound. And anyway, I think there's bigger things to worry about here, such as having Jimmy Neutron as Zatch. Or the fact that the name of the show is Zatch Bell and not Gash Bell. You should be complaining about that, not about some minor mispronunciation that affects the dub in no way.

Whats wrong with the voice of Jimmy Neutron as Zatch? I think it suits him well.

Damn fanboys. "Mamono" or "Mamodo" say it fast twenty times and it sounds the same. I'm glad they didn't call them "Creepy Looking Dolls the Size of Midgets". Maybe we should kill everytime we hear someone complain about a minor mis-spelling. I thought "Arucard" on Hellsing was messed up because it affected the dialogue when he says that his name is something of an enigma as well. Correct is "Alucard" or "Dracula" backwards not "Dracura". How does MimoDo affect this series?
I only mentioned the Hellsing part because I knew it screwed with peoples minds who don't know about the name Alucard. One of my friends was like "what does hell does he mean about his name" and when the guy that looks like Alucard with a mustache flashes on the screen during the final battle my friend was like "WTF was that?" Crap I hope this doesn't consider me a fanboy because I would kill myself just so that there will be one less fanboy in this world...... or not.

You know, you could have given this thread a title that would be meaningful to people who have never seen Zatch/Gash Bell.

Oh snows, they mispronounced a word. As if it ruins the whole dub?
My only real complaint with Zatch's dub is that it doesn't use enough original music, but they've started using more lately, so maybe it'll come to a point where they only replace a couple of tracks per episode.

I think we sorta know why Gash is renamed Zatch; It's the same reason in the Mexican Inuyasha dub they changed the name of Aome (Kagome). In slang terminology you get a rather bad word (In Mexican I think it translated to "poo" or "dogshit").
I have no prob with Zatch's voice. If anything it shows off his goofiness.

And yet they don't have problems with using names like Bull, Jack, Peter, Johnson, Wang, or any other practically bad words. Really, anybody that "get"s Gash, deseverves to get it. It's not like there are going to be any five year olds that watch the show and go "Holy crap! Gash means vagina!" Please.

Well, I prefer Zatch. In my opinion, Gash is just more violent sounding and as such it goes against what 'Zatch' is trying to achieve overall. I mean, Zatch is trying to become a benevolent king so simply he's obviously against the violence.
The Jimmy Neutron voice actually suits him in my opinion. I mean, they do sound different, if only because Jimmy is always calm, intellectual sounding and Zatch is an excitable, loud, rowdy little boy.
And personally, I think Mamodo and Mamono sound similar anyway. Someone probably just thought it sounded more like a 'do' than 'no' or whatever.

It really kinda sounds like taking a c***, so that's why Mexican dubbers changed Kagome's name.

I agree, from watching many hundreds of anime I can assure you that they never-ever mispronounce an English word. Nope, never ever, their pronunciation is flawless. Why if it was any more flawless ... erm, what am I saying ... perfection can't be perfected upon. It's only the evil, kitten-torturing dubbing companies that ever get anything wrong.

To mispronounce a word in a anime does not correspond to the end of the world, no one will die because of that... It's just an error.
