You might want to include your reasons why you think these shows could be put on Toonami. Otherwise a moderator might show up and ask you to do so or even lock this thread.

As far as the shows go I know Samurai 7 has been on tv before, so I'm not sure if they would want to bring that one back. Most of the shows you have listed I wouldn't be interested in watching to be honest. The only one that might make the cut would be Rideback, the scifi elements are general enough to potentially attract a wider audience.

Yes, you'll need to give you own reasons why you think any of these would be worthy of airing; otherwise you're just listing and we'll have to lock this thread because of that.

Frankly, several of those series are now a few years old so they'd have little chance of making it on Toonami for that reason even if their content was deemed suitable. Deadman Wonderland made the cut because it's fresh, well-animated, and has a high thrill factor that depends on a lot of crassness and graphic violence - in other words, exactly the kind of thing that Toonami's target audience tends to eat up. It's such a logical choice for Toonami that I'm surprised that I didn't see it coming.

For real? Because a title is 10 years old (Heat Guy J is oldest title listed on my list) it's unwatchable for new fans?

THAT'S BULLSHIT!

Fans need to stop being ignorant & open their spoiled brat eyes and just see what's out there!

Toonami can air this stuff it isn't THAT old. Rolling Eyes

I don't disagree, but that doesn't change the fact that many newer fans won't even look at series that are 5 years old, much less 10. Besides, Toonami and Adult Swim, in any of their incarnations, have rarely ever given first runs to series that are are more than 3-4 years old, and the notable exceptions are series with big, long-established followings. None of the series you linked to fall into that category.

Probably most of them could but they'll still be edited "for commercial time" Rolling Eyes

Nerima Daikon Bros. definitely couldn't. The dialogue and content are too raunchy and they swear way too much. Anime hyper

o_o Are you serious? They don't deserve to call themselves anime fans in that case.

I can stretch this: Why aren't you watching anime from the 70s? And you call yourself an anime fan.

I have watched anime from the 70s and liked some of them, k,thanks, bye. :'D

Littl' Bits, Maya The Bee, and The Noozles were essentially my anime childhood.
But they seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth. Anime cry
Chirin No Suzu was excellent though and easy to find.
Don't underestimate Chiibi's otakuism. Anime hyper

I think that it's best that we just avoid the whole, "true anime fan," concept. Because I've never seen it do any good.

Incidentally, Heat Guy J was briefly shown on MTV. I remember watching it there. It was, if memory serves, poorly formatted, so everything was visibly stretched and distorted.

I think that Adult Swim tried to get the rights to Samurai 7, but was outbid by the Independent Film Channel.

True "true anime fan" is probably a harsh label.

"Open-minded" is a better term. I stay open-minded when it comes to anything related to fandom.
I won't ultimately swear off any genre from any time period.
Otherwise, you miss out, big time.

Its not only about fans, but also what the producers of Toonami think (rightly or wrongly) will attract the most eyeballs. More viewers more advertising dollars. It also depends on whether the licensors, let's say Funimation, think its worth offering to put on Toonami. 4-5 of those shows are already on their S.A.V.E line. Do you want to promote an older perhaps not as popular show to get some people to maybe pick up a discounted set or do you want them to pick up something newer with a higher selling price?

And most fans who have been around a while are aware of these shows and have already seen or purchased them if they liked those shows. So there is no reason to watch it again on TV. Therefore, those shows will not bring in as wide of an audience as possible in contrast to a newer show.

Don't know, since it's my basic internet policy to not click on unidentified links even if they're from a website I know.

AS has been running for many years and via ratings I think they've pretty much nailed down what their audience wants to see. Older series and those slower paced series that do not rely on action generally don't gather as much "casual" viewers which is where the big money is. Sure the larger more committed anime fans will watch them, but that's still a niche within a niche and far less viewers. That's pretty much why the series they get nowadays have a decent action element.

I agree though that's it's pretty pathetic.

Why do you really want to see any of those shows run on TV anyway? They can all be easily found on DVD (and at least one on Blu-ray.) New things are supposed to go on TV to attract new fans not have the same old fans wallow in their ten year old Heat Guy J run. I could see AS maybe picking up Fairy Tale or something like it, but it's sort of long. It's a commitment that they, understandably, don't want to make.

The old shows should be run on TV in order to introduce them to new fans who haven't seen shows like Heat Guy J.

That would work if we had more anime channels to spread content around on, like how HBO and Turner/TCM handle films. Of course Toonami, specifically that block, is going to be geared for fresher content, because it's the only block unless you magically have access to FUNi's channel.
