I guess the question to ask is, will the spinoff become internationally published like Newtype is?

I most likely guessing not. Then again, adult don't have to mean for adults only. So, who knows.
If it does. It would be cool. If not, we can always import.

Guess they're trying to muscle in on the territory of Megami and the like.

Nope. "Adult" doesn't mean fanservice or anything, so Megami is safe. NewWORDS will just be more diverse and cover things like technology, live-action drama, mainstream entertainment and things like that. It will still include anime, but not as much.

Reminds me of the old Mixxzine/Tokyopop magazine that we used to have in the US. Does anyone else remember those?

It seems that at the worst, it may be a bit like Maxim. As mentioned higher up in the thread, The word "adult" has gotten a bad rep at the hands of the porn industry. "1984," for instance, is adult fiction, but I'd be hard pressed to say that even the couple of meager sexual encounters Winston and Julia have in the book could remotely be regareded as erotic.

Yes, I was wondering that too. I hope it will be. Even though I'm 16, I'd like a version of newtype aimed at older audiences.

I remember those... It was nice getting them free for a while, until they randomly stopped making them. I also got a Tokyopop t-shirt by getting - what was it... - five people to sign up for the magazine? Ah, the days before Tokyopop ruled the earth.

As evidenced by the strange looks I get every time I try to explain to people that some of my favorite animes have more mature, adult themes to them, forcing me to quickly reply with, "no, not hentai." This gathers more strange looks because they don't know what hentai is; they correctly assume it's porn and then say, "you watch cartoon porn?", at which point I just give up and laugh it off. -_-

I've started using 'for grownups' rather than 'adult' in my discussions. I'm cribbing it from the subtitle of Viz's (alas no longer with us) magazine Pulp: Manga for Grownups.

Works well in many cases.

I'll be interested in having a look at NewWords, I only got the NewTypes for the DVDs but then there was a bunch of trouble with that so I stopped buying the magazine.

I'm hoping to see stuff about Honey & Clover and Paranoia Agent in it and JDrama's like Koi wa Tatakai, Kimi wa Petto and Densha Otoko, very funny and interesting stuff.

Ah yes, the joy of explaining hentai and if that only brings a couple of raised eyebrows I explaing Yuri and June-mono and if that doesn't do much as well I explain Guro, that usually makes them run, lol.

I don't care what they think of me knowing I watch that kind of stuff, it's not like they are so innocent themselves, who knows what they are hiding in their collections, could be far worse! Very Happy or can't it? Wink
