I was just wondering what was the first j-pop/j-rock song that you ever heard.

For me the first j-pop/j-rock song I ever heard was Just Communications by Two-Mix which was the opening theme for Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. This was the song that started me listening to this genre. I just loved the vocals and background music to it. Even though I didn't understand the lyrics I would find myself humming the tune in my head all day after seeing an episode of Gundam Wing. So by listening to this song I was able to find other j-pop songs that I like now.

Yeah guess what that was probably mine too Anime smallmouth and I imagine most everyone's first would be related to some anime shown on Cartoon Network in the old days. Did it start anything for me? Nope I didn't start listening to j-whatever until a couple of years ago when I first heard the pillows.

It wasn't as much as first song; but rather the first time I didn't mute an anime theme song. That would be "Sakura Saku" by Megumi Hayashibara from Love Hina. No idea how or why, but it just sounded so cool.

The first J-ROCK song would be "Driver's High" by L'arc~en~ciel from GTO. You know I really don't like the studio track version; but I think it's way better live.

Meh, a bunch of random medicre anime themes. The first ones that I actually liked were the Gundam Wing opening song, and Maaya Sakamoto's song for the Lodoss TV series...I think it was called Kiseki no Umi. The first Jpop/rock song I heard that was completely unrelated to anime was Blue Blood by X-Japan. Luna Sea and La'cryma Christi followed soon after, and from there I became an raging J-rock fan and anime was left in the dust. :)

Edit: Corrected, thanks. :)

Kiseki no Umi. Wink A fantastic song. But then again, I'd expect nothing less from the Kanno/Sakamoto duo. That's funny because I think the first songs I really liked from an anime series were from the original Record of Lodoss War. Especially Adesso E Fortuna, composed by Akino Arai.
The first J-pop I heard was Gackt, I think. I don't remember whether I liked it or not. Probably not, because I haven't really pursued any of his material since then.

The first j-pop song I ever heard was Just Communication by Two-Mix as already mentioned. I thought the style was different especially in the beginning with the keyboard or xylophone playing.(I can't remember.) It had kind of a techno-ish feel to it and it was unique to me since the english songs I were listening to didn't have much of a techno beat to them. Sadly though, I feel asleep during the episode. Embarassed

I then forgot about the whole j-pop thing until I heard about Gravitation and listened to Glaring Dream by Kinya Kotani. I enjoy the vibrant and cheerful beat to his music and his voice is...how should I say this... his voice melts my heart everytime I hear it. Wink

I would have to say that to memory, i think i heard the J-pop/j-rock song “Change the World” by V6 from Inu-Yasha, or ”Yakusoku wa Iranai” by Maaya Sakamoto from Vision of Escaflowne

The J-Pop song I heard was "Sobakasu" by Judy and Mary, the first opening theme for Rurouni Kenshin but the first non-anime related J-Pop song I heard was "Automatic" by Utada Hikaru. I first heard the song on some Filipino variety show, and it drove me nuts because my little brother would sing the song over and over but he didn't know the title of it. So I asked one of my online friends about a J-Pop song with the lyrics "sun will shine" and I've been listening to Utada's music ever since.

Well I think most of us are of the new generation (which I consider from 1994-1996 and on).

*Shrug* I'm a younger j-music fan, but lots of my favorite acts are from the 80's.

( B'z, Luna Sea, Buck-Tick, X, Kuroyume. )

hmm... i think my first was also Gundam Wing's Just Communication... I think it's because i was only in elementary school and i was still in the pokemon-digimon stage of anime fandom and of course had the japanese openings replaced. So i first experienced j-pop from my brother's gundam wing tapes and it was addictive (stuck-in-head type).

Then i think the next time i got addicted to Cruel Angel's Thesis/ Zankoku na tenshi no thesis on Evangellion, which i saw on Toonami and rented from Blockbuster.. from then on expanded greatly

The first J-pop i listened out of anime was recently. Probably because i've considered myself musically retarded for a long time and i didn't feel like getting started in any sort of music other than i've already heard from anime.

but then i saw that my uncle had an Utada Hikaru CD and i really wanted to borrow it from him because i heard of her from Kingdom Hearts. Now i'm experiementing here and there =D

Ok i've only mentioned a j-pop song from an anime in this post i'll put the first j-pop song I heard outside of anime and the first j-rock song I heard in an anime and the first I heard outside of anime (which was just recently).

J-pop outside of anime would be ughh forgot its name but it was done by BoA. After I heard the song she did for InuYasha (Every Heart 4th ending song) I decided to search for some of her other songs and found them just as enjoying.

The first J-rock song I heard would have to be Haruka Kanata by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I heard it on my friends mp3 player before I actually started watching the series. Now my first J-rock song out of an anime would be either Locolotion by Orange Range or Sunny Day by Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I liked those bands from the opening songs they did for Naruto and Bleach so I decided to look for some of their other songs.
