I don't really see anything 'manga'-ish about those pictures.. they look like regular comics to me.

Looks like they are trying to jump on the Marvel/DC Bishoujo Kotobukiya figures bandwagon:

These superficial attempts at tacking "manga" elements on established properties never end well, do they? Even the Batman manga that were successful tended to rein in the stereotypical elements.

Yes the Kotobukiya figures are better, but the Ame-Comi figure line came first. |

Interesting. I don't much about Marvel and DC universe, so that makes me wonder how the Kotobukiya figures came about when they already had their own manga/anime-typed line. |

Eh, those figures in your link don't look any better to be honest. It looks like someone took a bunch of fanart from DeviantArt and made a statue out of them.
It wasn't. At least not on any notable scale. |

It was, in the same scale we use for anime in America. Probably more, when even ESPN sportscasters at one point were even making references to it, so its notoriety even reached outside the usual animation circles. |

See, I love the Ame-Comi line of figures. It re-imagines common characters that we all know and brings up new and fun designs.
It makes perfect sense for them to try this line of comics. They will likely appeal to women, and most women hate DC Comics right now with the New 52. |

I'm not familiar with the other artists, but Conner and Akins together sounds like a good combination.
Plus, Palmiotti and Gray always put out good work. |
