I don't know if there is already a thread on this but, I'd like to know which you all prefer: mangas or their anime adaptations as is the name of the thread. For me I've liked a couple of anime adaptations such as Bleach and Inuyasha (though I though it was a season too long). Just wondered about your opinions on this. I'll edit this once I can think of more, I'm too sleepy even at noon.

I dislike this notion of "adaption", I'd much rather have it that everything were original. The one loses a part of itself when translated to the other, and this adaption can never cope with true original works.

You can argue against the 100% purity concept since it's possible to derive more enjoyment if the story isn't exactly the same in both versions. Even when CLAMP is directly involved in the anime adaptations of their manga you'll find changes to the story (look at the endings for CCS and Chobits, both series in which Ohkawa was involved with the anime script), I feel it's a something they do so there's still an element of surprise for those who buy both versions.

I agree.adaptions are somewhat nice,but i'd rather have something original.

I'm much more of a fan of original manga, because there are things you can convey that can't be executed in anime. Certain introspection and character depth, for example. However, I also love original anime like FLCL and Evangelion.

I believe that the only way an anime adaption can surpass the original source material is by assuming its own direction, however slight. An anime that follows too closely on a manga's heels can never be better than the anime, just a carbon copy (and likely with filler if it gets caught up). However, anime like Fullmetal Alchemist and Excel Saga took a chance and ended up being better than their manga, if in different ways.
