rurouni kenshin volume 17 manga came out recently and i glanced at it at my local BORDERS and saw it ended were the kyoto arc ended. so that means volume 18 will be the new story arc right? the manga arc that wasnt turned into an anime because the anime caught upto the manga? im wondering how much longer before it ends in manga form and if its worth to buy. is the manga after the kyoto arc as much of a disapointment as the anime?

Moved to the Manga forum.

And yes, the next volume begins the famed Jinchuu Arc of Rurouni Kenshin, which is hailed by many as the best of the entire series. And personally, I agree with that sentiment. This arc not only yields the original rendition of the story told in the Tsuioku-Hen OVA, but it also shows in full the story that was cut pathetically short and heavily altered in the Seishouhen OVA. It's well, well, well worth the money, as it features the best of the best that the series has to offer in virtually all fields—artwork, writing, character development, drama, and then some.

In response to your question about the manga series' total length, volume 28 will be the final edition.

Yep. It's all about spoiler[Enishi's plot for revenge against Kenshin.]

Yes on both. The Jinchuu Arc will give the series a rousing and appropriate conclusion, or at least one that's moreso than its TV and OVA counterparts.

The manga is better than the anime, storywise. However, the action works better in the anime because you see it in motion, especially the fight between Kenshin and Cho in which you can feel the intensity.

Where did you hear the manga wasn't good? The 2 arc (Tokyo, Kyoto) are better written in the manga, and the 3rd arc which is probably the best arc was never animated. The 3rd arc of the anime were all filler stuff which many people thought were crap.

But since you already seen the anime, just start on the 3rd arc, which is volume 18 coming out next month.

Actually, that runs strongly counter to the general consensus. Most fans consider the manga to be the superior telling, as it lacks the inane filler (no circus episode, no train episode, no pirate island episode...), features a superb story arc the anime left out (and replaced with...even more inane filler), goes into a little more detail in places, and even completely retells a few story arcs in a vastly superior fashion. The Raijuuta Arc, for example, is actually really entertaining in the manga, while the anime turns it into a cheap "Mini-Shishio" thing that just ends up being a waste of time.

Personally, I'd wholeheartedly advocate the manga over the anime (the sole exception being the Tsuioku-Hen, or Trust & Betrayal OVAs), and I know I'm hardly the only one who holds that sentiment among the fanbase.

I only just finish reading vol.16 of the manga last, I must say I quite liked it, other then the sometime unrelastic stuff that happens in battle ( fireball clashing Confused ).
Its a shame that the Viz/action tranlation of the comic ruined some of the panel with the replacing (really ugly) and distracting english soud effects.

Shocked Its really 28 vol, in total...
I always thought it was 50 vol. or somthing ( thats what a friend told me )...

Smile Anyway can't wait for the next one to come out (if it better then the last 2 arcs I'
m defitiney excited Very Happy).
Guess it would be a year and a 1/2 before I get the whole series.

I'll agree than Kenshin is well above average. I watched the anime a while ago, and I enjoyed that quite a bit. Now that I'm borrowing the manga from a friend, I'm a little bit disapointed that it doesn't live up to my memories of the show. Like Nagisa said, the manga is probobly better, but over the past couple of years I've grown a little tired of shonen manga, which is probobly why I'm not seeing Kenshin as the masterpiece that everyone else seems to think it is. I still enjoy it alot, but I'm just not as enthusiastic about these type of stories as I once was.

I have all the english volumes of Rurouni Kenshin and it's probably one of the best series of all time (yes I'm a HUGE fan), so I'm really looking foward to the last arc. I also have the director's cut of Trust and Betryal, so I know what to expect, but I'm just worried that the action will be a bit short like the rest of the volumes. By the way, I always get those Borders coupons when I buy from Borders, so you're suppossed to recieve them with your reciept. If not them your geting screwed out of savings.
