I grinned happily!
I'm rather surprised that Sayaka is not represented as a knight piece.

Warning; there are spoilers for PMMM in this post. If you haven't watched the show yet then you shouldn't be here.
I gotta say, the characters and the pieces were matched fairly well.
Madoka is King, which makes sense, given how important she is. Homura was the most powerful Puella Magi for most of the series, so the Queen suits her. Mami is a Knight, which makes perfect sense, given her disposition. Sayaka is a Bishop, which invokes slicing through an enemy's defensive line, just like a sword. Kyouko doesn't really fit the role of the rook, but given that was what was left then hey, she'll just have to make do. I guess you can say she's very stubborn and very direct, so you can make an argument for her.
Kyubey as the pawns is a bit of a toss-up. On the one hand it makes perfect sense given that he has multiple bodies in the show and that people are sure to want to kill him time and time again. On the other hand, Kyubey was the chessmaster of the show, and everyone else (except Madoka) were his pawns.

Yeah, it would have been much more apropos being represented like this:
Madoka: King
Homura: Queen
Sayaka: Knight
Kyōko: Bishop
Mami: Rook
Kyubey: Pawn

Wonder if this is going to be sold as a complete set, or will they be sold separately as mystery boxes. So you have to buy plenty of excess duplicates to have a complete set, and god save you if you want to get the rare color pieces.

Good to know Japan ships the pairing! I would have raged if they'd down those two any differently.

MadoHomu royal couple pleases me.
Otherwise, Kyouko would be better as Knight because of her actions in the show. Mami would be better as Bishop, given her mentorish position, and Sayaka's heavy-tank role would be better represented through the Rook.

Lol, I was gonna say the same thing. So then, he'd be like, the player and therefore shouldn't even be on the board... 'course then what would be the pawn... not much really to choose from. As a witch would make no sense.
The idea sounds pretty cool... but I gotta say, i'm not really liking the designs .

The witches? They could use cute Charlotte as the pawns.

The pieces need arms. Right now they just look weird, I'll agree with you on that one.

Kyoko has an explicitly religious background, so she should be the bishop.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of it from that angle.
Would you make Sayaka the Knight and Mami the Rook, or the other way around?
