Good. I'm glad to hear they plan on making more than one movie. It'd be nearly impossible to squeeze all of that material into just one feature.
Now I wonder how they'll adapt it. Will it actually take place in Germany with Hollywood actors, or will it be in America? Hm.. should be intersting to see who they cast in the future for the adapted roles... |

If there's ever been an anime/manga that's perfect for a Live Action adaptation, it's Monster. I just hope they do it right.

Note that having scripts do not mean shooting will commence. See George Romero for proof. Also, if New Line's being cheap, it'll take place in one of the Eastern European countries like Poland or Hungary.

Reading the full article on the Hollywood Reporter...my mind goes insane...think if Cronenberg directed this film too. He already likes what Oslen does...Cronenberg could do this amazingly. OMG...makes me super excited...which aint gonna happen but I can dream

Prague in the Czech Republic seems to be the most popular place to recreate other major European cities on the cheap. Everything in Eurotrip save for the nude beach was shot in and around Prague and Bratislava. |

Horray!!!! I am just damn happy to see that New Line is actually getting the ball rolling. Yes of course I know that this doesn't mean that movie is going to be made, but it's a step in the right direction. Best part of this has to that it looks like monster will be multiple movies which is a huge plus.
More so let move onto the how will this project will be handle. Tony K and myself (along with others) were recently discussion about how the voicing for monster should work. People should sound like they are German, or Czech. Also when Tenma is listening to someone speak Czech lets keep it that way. German would be the implied language for this movie. A History of Violence is a GREAT film. One of the best I have seen this year (It premiered at Cannes earlier in the year). I highly doubt though that Cronenberg will get anywhere near Monster. A History of Violence was his first commercial film. Meaning he was hired to direct it. His next film will be one of his own creations with his own screenplay and I doubt he would do another commercial film.
Still, the screenplay of the film and the career best performance by Viggo Mortensen impressed me. Cronenberg delivered once again but that goes without saying. So I take this as good news. |

I actually think it could turn out well. He has experience adapting comicbooks with "A History of Violence", and though you could attribute the success and quality of that to Cronenberg, some credit has to be given to the writer. |

Arcadean: I read the comic book, and from what I've seen of it, Cronenberg is just adapting it word-for-word and scene-for-scene, which is better than what he did with Naked Lunch. (I hear the Fly and Scanners are worth checking out, though. One of these days...) I wouldn't call it a "commercial" film, though, since no one's a big name, and it's based on material published under an indie label.

wait, DOES this mean that it will be more than one movie? I mean, would Monster really be popular enough to sequel? Sure, anime fans say yes, and it's an excellent story, but i dunno, the fact that it doesn't have a giant screaming fanbase in the States limits its potential. Oh yeah, and there's those certain individuals who believe manga=spawn of Satan. (though I really don't see how Monster could fit in two hours...) Aaaaah, how long is it going to take? I can't wait to see this movie!! |

There's only going to be one movie for now(in production hell), but I think they want to leave open the possibility of a sequel.

If they plan for a multiple movies won't it lessen the chance of them actually making the first one?
