Bit of a lag between releases of the two parts for 45 mins of content.
6-8 months would have been reasonable if the quality is similar to something like Kara no Kyoukai or Hellsing Ultimate.

One of the producers of Hellsing Ultimate once commented on why OVAs take so long to get made. It's something to do with the difficulty in finding available animators, who would rather have a steady job on a TV series or a better-paying job on a theatrical feature.

So has this been confirmed as getting subtitles? If so then we can expect another import release from Aniplex coming our way.

I hope so too, i recall MB were asked if they would carry it over but they said that they wanted to but Aniplex is now responsible for any future Kenshin releases in Japan and oversee.

I hope it doesn't get another overpriced Aniplex import.

I wouldn't count on it, especially if this winds up getting the simultaneous release, or close to it. Not that I would object to the dub cast returning, of course.
I'm hoping that this does well, if only because they can then consider animating the rest of the manga material not previously covered. I always wondered why they decided to go back to Kyoto rather than cover all-new material, as memorable as the Kyoto arc was.

Wait, where does it say 6-8 months? It says March, and then summer. If "summer" means July, that's 4 months. That's not quite 6-8 months, unless you mean from the limited theatrical release of part one until part two finally gets released. I wouldn't say that really counts, though!

Why couldn't this be released as 90 minute feature? I'm still going to get it but it seems like a waste of disc space. No?

It says next summer though.
From that wording I assume summer of 2013?

It's fairly unfortunate that if this were to receive a simultaneous North America/Japan release that it might not be dubbed. Because I do know that a good portion of the orginal Media Blasters cast are still around even now doing Viz or Bandai work, but ah well.

Just watched this today. Very well done take on retelling the 1/2 of the Kyoto saga. Some stuff about the story has changed. You definitely couldn't put this as part of the TV series, because there's certain events that play out differently.
Animation is really well done. Characters seem to be a blend between TV and OAV style. One of the changes you'll notice is that no one announces their techniques, although it's quite obvious what they're using.
One thing I was really happy was the soundtrack was a new take on the old music from the Kyoto saga. Some of the music is a bit more gentler while others bring a lot more emotion in. The original music though from the TV series was the best IMO, but this soundtrack works for the OAV. The ending song is just a re-sung version from the RK RPG game - I wish they hadn't used it. Definitely not appropriate.
For those wondering about Saito's voice, it sound pretty damn close to the original VA who passed away several years back. Those who've played the RK fighting game on the PSP will have heard his voice already and knew he did a awesome job replicating the original voice for Saito.
That's about it for now. Hope everyone enjoys it when it comes out here domestically.

WTF Usui. I dont like that change.
And the ending song is not of any rk game, is the instrumental theme of the first chapters of the series, but whit voice.
